Thank you!! You are right, each child is unique! Our youngest five kiddos have different special needs...and my gray hairs are a result! Ha Thank you again for your perspective.

I love this video because this is what I have been doing for years now. My first semester in 2017 was so dull that I broke free from strict curriculum.

Do you have a favorite way or method for teaching kids to read? I appreciate your perspective!

First, make sure you run through the free class at the top of my page! (www.homeschoolingolympians.com/) That will help a lot! Second, how old are your kids?

Taught 9 of my kids to read using Christian Light (I've graduated 5 kids so far!). But I was hoping for something different with the youngest three kids. The younger group of kiddos are 9, 8, 7, 6, almost 5...

@@sarahrandall3189 First of all... CONGRATS on graduating your first batch:) What I learned over my journey is that every child is so unique, it's hard to put them in boxes, right? Trust your heart. Reading aloud to the kids is the most important part to fill their imaginations. I loved Hooked on Phonics (and so did 4 of my sons). My youngest was a challenged because of his crippling dyslexia, so we tried a few before relaxing until his busy body would slow down long enough to read. He didn't read until 10. As my hair grays, I'm convinced we don't spend enough time learning about learning: how each child's brain learns and remembers things. Since you have your own "class", I would create a weekly sentence and use it as a model all week (On a white board). I have so much going on in my mind, I'll add it to my video creation list!

This video was so good, I learned so much from it. I am so glad I didn't buy any curriculum yet. I have a question about teaching writing. My 6th grader tells amazing stories and uses amazing vocabulary ;however, when she has to actually write it down its like she is another person. She does have issues with spelling and some dyslexia tendencies. How would you suggest to teach formal writing? And possibly spelling? Right now we are using Dianne Craft's Right Brain Photogenic Spelling Program and she is finally on "grade" level.

@@SydneynewbornphotosAuvp GREAT suggestion! I also considered myself a personal secretary for two of my sons as they developed their writing muscles! You have to remember cresting the story and physically writing are two different skills! The goal is that they can eventually do both at the same time, but there's no rush!
