It's not about left and right, it's about tolerent and intolorent people, and you can find both types on either end of the political divide. I myself am on the left on most political positions and I absolutely love having disscussions with people on the right; I enjoy hearing their perspectives and I try to understand/empathise with their positions, as do many of my other left wing friends.
