Actually id say thats kinda how the show goes, Raava with korra makes the avatar, and Unalaq and Vaatu make the dark avatar. Unalaq doesn't really have bad intentions, he wants to unite the human and spirit world bc the spirits were exiled 10.000 years ago, but he is corrupted by Vaatu. And Korra just doesnt want to see the world as she knows it destroyed, there is no real good or bad intentions (except for Vaatu). This makes and internal conflict in korra as she wants to defeat Unalaq but at the same time she feels like Unalaq is right about the spirits having the right to live among humans, so after destroying Unalaq and Vaatu, she actually unites the two worlds, which is kind of like a redemption for Unalaq.

⁠@@alicec2988also in my eyes it’s stupid Vaatu was made to just be evil. What happened to the ideals of Yin and Yang, order in chaos, chaos in order, good in evil and evil in good? Like, ya know, balance? I mean technically if there is a good and evil spirit they both must have equal power to maintain balance right? It’s what I hated so much about the lore of the origin of the avatar episodes even tho literally almost everything else’s was really incredible in those episodes

@@RandomUser7777777 well I'd say up until meeting avatar Wan, both Raava and Vaatu had equal power. Also, Raava described that regardless of who won each fight they had, the goodness in Vaatu would resurface just like the evilness in Raava, so neither can really be defeated, they can only be temporarily tamed by their counterpart. You could argue tho that by joining forces with Wan, Raava is much more powerful than Vaatu, hence breaking the equal balance of forces :)

@@alicec2988 maybe you could even argue the imbalance actually amplifies the passive evils which ironically maintains the need for the avatar and keeps balance. It’d also explain why the avatar always has some horrible messes to deal with. Either way I found the whole idea of the spirits being good and evil instead of a more intricate and nuanced duality like order and chaos very disappointing. But I mean, the legend Korra definitely felt significantly for dumbed down compared the ATLA so yeah

It was always lazy, they literally opened on a poorly thought out imitation of prohibition New York without any thought to the previous show's characters, world, and bending abilities. Like the giant Aang statue or lightning bending as menial labour

The real problem is it isn’t lazy it’s constrained. The creators never were certain they would be greenlit for another season. I imagine at the beginning of the season they wanted to flesh it out but when they realized they needed to wrap up the story in one season the story suffered.

It’s not lazy it’s just last air bender fanboys refuse to give Korra a chance and write it off without anymore then a surface level assessment. Defeating Vatu wasn’t about good vs evil, it was about maintaining the balance, if one side gets too powerful then the other side knocks it back down, same logic behind the force in Star Wars. The only problem with the idea of a dark avatar is purpose, clearly the world doesn’t need help putting out more darkness humans are plenty good at that all by themselves and I doubt there’s ever been a person whose done too much good in the world. Also I don’t see how one spirit being pure darkness stops others from going from dark to light anymore then a pure light spirit would stop other spirits going from light to dark. Vatu and Rava are the extremes of the spiritual spectrum and fog that they’re the unique constants that keep everything else in order. Literally never understood the hate for s2, s4 has a much bigger issue in that it tries to argue fascism is worse then monarchy when in reality Kuvira has the moral high ground for most of the show.

@@tiffanyroberts6460 I feel like Korra could have been a great but there was too much working against it. Had it had the same treatment as ATLA had I think it would have been great. But as is there’s holes that just make the show not as good. There are good moments and stuff. But, I feel like the negatives heavily weigh it down.

@@ambujbansal2652 I think there was one thing working against it being people who didn’t want to grow up and wanted to stay stuck in their childhood. Even when people do give it a legitimate chance they’re too scared to say its actually good in fear of the nutjobs who can’t accept that Korra being good doesn’t make last airbender bad. I’ve yet to see one person point out what is bad about the show without it just being it’s not the same as last airbender, every time I see someone attacking the show it’s just ‘how dare they make something different and not more of the same’ it’s literally the same bullshit the Star Wars prequels got.

I remember when Jesus was a mortal man possessed by a light spirit that allowed him to be reincarnated throughout the centuries oh wait that’s not Jesus. If avatar resembles any other religion it’s the force, Rava is the daughter of Mortis, Vatu is the son, they’re not good vs evil, just two sides that exist to maintain balance for without either the world would be doomed.

If you watched the Wan episode, Raava and Vatu have been at odds since before humans existed. When Raava was pulled out of Korra, she was still small because as “darkness grows, light fades”. Raava wasn’t any stronger with Korra than she was with Wan

Even then, there are angry spirits that appear without Vatu's influence. Like I get Korra Season 2 is shit, but it is constantly misrepresented.

Ofc there's not - but they weren't trying to tell that kind of story when they started it. They just shoehorned it in at the end, and dropped all the complexity they'd built in from the start.
