Android Apps on Windows should have been a thing a long time ago. We are now at a point where Windows often is limited a lot because certain devices need an iOS or Android App to properly function or to configure stuff. My Smart Home Gadgets or my Sony ANC Headphones are a great example - yes they work under Windows however in order to toggle the ANC, change stuff in the equalizer or use some built-in features like the assistant you need an Android or iOS device. Great move from Microsoft to finally implement it.

I know I always talk about Nokia, but what I always assumed would happen in the future is that one of the Nokia licensees was going to grow big enough to buy up all the others. The prime suspect would have been HMD, but their lack of ambition leaves me a bit worried. Anyway, there are reports that HMD has their own laptop prototypes they're working on, and they already have the licence for tablets and they also have their own audio products (which to me just causes confusion), so who knows what might happen in the future.

Because their profit margins on chips are super high while on phones they would be a few percent max. Better spend the resources you have on selling more chips than going into a low-profit industry. Also, becoming a competitor to the companies you supply makes them like you a lot less, so it's a risky move

@Raja995mh33 3 жыл бұрын
@Dex4Sure YOU're the one who doesn't understand anything. Do you seriously believe that all those companies only design a chassis and throw third party stuff in there? 🤦‍♂️ They still have to design the ENTIRE phone so this whole stuff even fits in a phone dude. And they have to write all the software so that it even works to begin with. Chinese OEMs dominate the market? Except not. And most of them even only "dominate" the chinese market because they use patented stuff which makes it impossible to sell their stuff overseas. Making a good phone is WAY harder than you think. There's a reason why companies actually sometimes take YEARS from the start to the final release. Samsung hasn't started working on the S21 like 3 weeks ago but 1-2 YEARS ago.

PWA really should finally be a thing, finally somebody, who agrees with me! And while we're at it, I need a new Firefox OS phone or KaiOS to have a smartphone OS variant. I know that it's built on Firefox OS, but it has a new design which isn't bad at all and it would be refreshing in this world of duopoly between iOS and Android.

What are the advantages of web apps
@jakubwegrzyn3798
@jakubwegrzyn3798 3 жыл бұрын
@@derdummeasi they work workout installation on any platform and run in special sandbox. Developers have also much more freedom when it comes to payments because there are alternative payments providers like stripe that don't take 30% cut like in Apple store (and that's why Apple doesn't like web so much). However there are also many disadvantages, so not every so can be PWA. Apple is also a big problem, their safari which is the only browser on ios doesn't support many web features for example notifications.
@jackiecs8190
@jackiecs8190 3 жыл бұрын
@@derdummeasi in my opinion, the three biggest advantages of web apps: 1. Support every platform, including new and experimental ones like desktop OSes on ARM, and low-end ones like KaiOS, and will continue to work long into the future after wholly new platforms pop up and gain traction 2. Web apps allow for browser extensions like ad blocking, advanced tab management, and more. My hand doesn't work so well and I can't hold a mouse, so I use a desktop browser extension called Vimium that lets me control websites with just a keyboard. I can't do that for native apps. 3. Browsers were designed from the start to protect privacy and security, and Android/iOS apps have a lot more access to your system and your information, and a lot more potential to spread malware, compared to web apps, which are more isolated.

Nokia Booklet 3G was such an awesome laptop, in theory it had 12 hours of battery life, 3G modem was super useful, the keyboard was the best I have ever seen on a laptop, the screen was good enough, and it had a lot of ports and SD card reader. All that looked slick and weight very little and was fanless, which meant I carried it everywhere. It could actually play Full HD video, but it was honestly too weak for Windows, and making the very unique GPU work on Linux was extremely problematic. Still it was really cool and I hope such small devices with so many ports would come back, because I really miss them! At least we have GPD who makes innovative small devices.

Gotta agree on the headline. I feel top-tier mobile SoCs (much like top-tier desktop CPUs) are much more powerful than it's strictly needed right now. So, for an iteration or two, focusing on other areas of the chip or improving efficiency instead of racing for even more power is something I'd love to see.

I'm glad improving every year but it's frustrating because you know some people have to let you know a new phone comes out it's just like going to new graphics card comes up they want to get the new best thing and it's like mobile phones have become basically like PCs and laptops and you think comes out every month to get it but everything is like most mobile developers are not using the hard work to the advice obviously a crayon trying yeah of course they are but I like some of them in because I remember they said I could pop with the new like the last gen snapdragon we was supposed to get some type of Ray tracing lying I remembered a displayed it in one day there trailer thing they said we're going to get some some cool new type of lying that was basically invented I guess around when the PS3 came out but obviously it looks really detailed now but yeah that was going to be cool to actually see on mobile but haven't seen any companies actually take advantage of that you know I mean so I hope they do this year with dis generation of chips it because it's going to carry over and it is a case I would love to see what career can do with this new thing imgur gear using unreal engine because like I would love to see what will come out you know what I mean like mobile games they look beautiful like they really do look beautiful the only problem is anti-aliasing is really bad and the resolutions are really bad it's like you could still see that it's still a problem is like the games have gotten as beautiful I can't explain it is slightly small games look like how the PSP used to look like when we played on the small screen that's why it looks like that it looks really detailed example if you played like Kingdom hearts on the PSP or the latest one which was checking 6 on the PSP you can see it looks just like the game on the PS3 or the PS2 just dance girl but because it's on a smaller screen you don't really notice it that much that's what it looks like in a way but if you blow up on a big screen that use Emily or you can see that yeah it's a bit sticky and that's where it is on these games it's like yeah they're beautiful day great but then anti-aliasing and think it's not a problem it's really not a problem but then sometimes if you are trying to add extra things that get this perfect lighting you know is going to ruin the whole thing because of you no anti-aliasing it right the resolution is a bit too low like this I know for a fact that the resolutions for mobile games I like 720 p the max would be like 1080p the lowest will be as for ATP which is not a problem because you know it where is but like yeah and you can tell from a different settings but just like if the chipset says you can do the same things and people not taking advice it just saying way as the new consoles you know I mean like that to trigger the one I like obviously you do it just came out but I still would like to take them a couple years for them to actually push to get what they need to get and if it doesn't work then yeah is it still down in the long run but then it's like why you know me why speed is all out if most game developers in career to exact ain't going to push for that you know amazing so and sodid you actually improve you know I mean

That Nokia strategy feels really weird. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Nokia's biggest money maker is their telecommunication equipment? At the same time, from what I've read it's that Nokia has gotten some boost because whenever a country bans Huawei, the options are pretty much just Nokia and Ericsson (I guess ZTE too if they only care about the letter of the law and not the possible reach in the spirit of the law). So it feels really weird when one of the reason they're doing well is because they're not Chinese and yet they seem to be pulling closer with the Chinese. They can do whatever they want ofc, it doesn't matter too much on the end customer level and it is at least half a political theatrics move, but that does not seem like good optics. A bit baffling, but I know that companies generally don't care about that and as someone who works in telecommunication company I know the process has so many subcontractors that it become a mix of everyone and everything anyways, but I feel like it's just exposing an extra risk. It's not like they're pulling a Xiaomi ecosystem approach either which I will admit is notable in that compared Western IoT/Smart/Bluetooth ecosystem stuff they do account for usage in middle class developing countries. It really feels like diversification for the sake of diversification to me.

It's certainly an interesting approach and your mentioning "real world applications" is important though let's not for a moment assume that processing power is crucial. I think a more pertinent question is WHY is Qualcomm focusing on those things, as opposed to power IF they had any other option?
@Young_Dab
@Young_Dab 3 жыл бұрын
Much of Qualcomm's focus with the Snapdragon 888 is to talk about how new additions to the chipset will improve your mobile photography and mobile gaming experiences - the kind of thing you're more likely to notice than whether an app launched a little bit faster on one phone or another.

I am actually kinda hyped for Project Latte. Even if Microsoft doesn't bring Google Play Services to Windows, then the community will surely find a solution to that anyways, just like they have been with Huawei and Amazon devices for the longest time now.

Project Latte sounds interesting. It will be ground-breaking if Microsoft worked with Google (or not) to make deploying android apps from Android Studio to be really fast (to the Windows device running Android Studio instead of test device) with almost 0 latency. This would cement Windows devices to be Android developers' primary choice of platform. I can finally use my Surface Pro over my desktop. Also, I wonder how Google Play purchases would work on this.

problem isnt with processor but with inability to utilize them upto 30-40% of its optimum limit. they should rather focus on how to properly optimize the processor with their mobile set and ui rather than making higher end processor which they cant even utilize properly

Highly doubt it. They brought out the surface duo which runs android. What it would help them with is the appstore. Specifically for their Windows arm devices. It would also allow them to bring out an android phone with the Windows store without Google and allow tighter integration within the ecosystem. Desktop, tablet, phone etc. But this MS were talking about. I loved Windows phone but they've burnt consumers too many times for me to want to invest in their ecosystem.

@@liamsweeney4754 Intel has surprisingly also had a shift in presentation recently. Hmmm I wonder why? Maybe cuz their CPUs are worse and now they are focusing instead on "REAL WORLD Workloads" . Sounds familiar to what is happening with Qualcom. Samsung is gonna surpass them so they instead are focusing on stupid stuff. And he didnt just cover it. He also added positive remarks to this shift in presentation.

@@blendrugova2426 huge difference between the 2 buddy, intel makes dedicated CPUs that are worse then AMDs, and Qualcomm makes SoCs that have CPUs, gpus and image signal processors that have attractive features for phone designers that cannot be gotten anywhere else, He said it himself, they processor is mainly just an arm X1 chip, he was commenting on new features and a shift in marketing

@@TheFridayCheckout That may be true but little has changed since i made my comment or after reading yours. Your link does work of course and it now shows this video under under latest videos under the featured page when launching a new nebula session but it did not earlier display there earlier and still does not appear under videos for your Friday Checkout channel. I was actively looking for this video on nebula when i received the notification that it was on KZfaq. I made multiple attempts to find this video on Nebula before commenting here and its still only partially available on nebula. This isn't meant to be a complaint but rather sharing the experience I'm having and the issue I'm running in to.

There are very concerning performance regarding Snapdragon 888 on Mi11 lately among chinese reviewers , mostly about the power consumption and heating issues. They think 865 is a better buy . Looking forward your review on 888 before i pull trigger on mi11 . Thank you .

Can we expect a reboot of Windows Mobile OS now? It would be awesome if ms reboots their Windows Os with support of android apk and their own windows store. I think it should work out as they would already have a good app library and they also have some good google alternatives already and since it is a pretty big "american" company they can tie up with other major app maker companies to create google play services free apps.
