As a fellow lesbian in high school, I didn’t realize how bad it has gotten, because my school doesn’t do that (despite living in a liberal-ish area). We have a shared library, and if a book has mature content the librarians won’t let the middle schoolers check it out (I think). We do have a banned book celebration, but it’s about books that were banned for strange reasons, never because of sexual content (but I don’t know much) They let us know. It’s crazy that people don’t ever consider this.

It's amazing and sickening. The line that bothers me the most is that the children need to see this stuff if they are gay. First off, a parent doesn't know for sure that a child will ultimately be gay as an adult. Second, just because a child is gay doesn't mean that they aren't an innocent child, and aren't worthy of the same protection as any other child. It's really sad and has made me realize just how at risk for abuse these children are. People don't view them as ordinary, innocent children.

It's ironic considering how they talk about gender being a man made thing but will spin on a dime and say a dude who bakes or likes bright colors is "feminine." Tomboy used to just be a gal that was a bit rough and tumble or dressed a bit like the guys, but now, according to them it's actually a whole other gender, or a sign that you're trans.
@erintheresa2430
@erintheresa2430 2 ай бұрын
I've been saying the same thing since this whole thing started. It's why I don't understand how you can "feel" your gender. Your clothing choices, hobbies, choices of tv shows, books, etc, are preferences. They don't define your gender. Sure, you can be a girl and like traditional "girly" things but that doesn't make anymore of a girl, then females who prefer more traditional masculine things/actvities. People who are "non-binary" say that they identify as that gender because they like to wear boys/girls clothes and have interests that are traditionally linked to both genders. SO DOES THE MAJORITY OF THE POPULATION! We all have both masculine and feminine energy,(hormones anyone?) It doesn'tfefine your gender.
@springfallendeer7236
@springfallendeer7236 Ай бұрын
Nonbinary is one of those things that just genuinely irks me. Especially when people start to point to animals that would be classified as nonbinary. But those animals are biologically in a non-binary state. They are born in a way that we cannot specifically label them as male or female. And a lot of them are just forms of hermaphrodites that change according to what they need at the time. A boy putting on a dress does not equate to how clownfish are largely "nonbinary". It is just a boy in a dress trying to claim that they are neither a boy or a girl.
@patacato
@patacato Ай бұрын
Besides, non-binary is a gender. They assign gender labels to animals through a human society lense. Animals don't have genders. They only have bio sex and their instincts dictate how that sex should behave. Humans created the concept of gender and assigned it to people's sexes, we don't have instincts. And despite that societal pressure all of us are non-binary (by those clowns' own definition), no one on this planet is 100% feminine or masculine. Main character syndrome idiots think they're the only ones who's special and need a special gender trophy meanwhile everyone else is a NPC with gender programming.
@Twink6629-lg3te
@Twink6629-lg3te 25 күн бұрын
Non binary people have existed for thousands of years. Not everyone is a boy or a girl. Sorry if that makes you mad but not everyone fits into a strict gender binary. If you think gender is something that has to be biologically determined how do you feel about intersex people or trans people? You think human beings should be reduced down to a set of genitals or invisible chromosomes? I get what you are trying to say but it’s just false. By your logic non binary people still exist, because intersex people exist and they can be the only “true ones”. Non binary people existing shouldn’t make you mad. Sounds like sensationalism has gotten to you

Depends the age. Once kids start puberty I don’t think banning them from sex education is the right thing to do. Learning about how sex works is so important to prevent pregnancy and STD issues from happening. What age are these books targeting? 14+ children should 100% learn about sex and how it works. You expect them to turn 18 and magically know how to function as a human after years of repression and censorship from basic human functions?

@Twink6629-lg3te There is learning about the functions of s-x, and then there is *crossing the line* by depicting s-xual positions / instructions on _how_ to preform the acts. You can educate teens about safety measures, potential diseases, etc... Like what education I had as a teen in class, it never depicted anyone in the middle of the act or described how to preform any lewd acts and just as effectively got the point across. Edit to add: In no way does a teenager need to know _how_ to exactly blow an Oscar Meyer weiner.

And yes ALL books about sexuality, particularly how to perform, where to perform, how and where to get partners to perform with etc. be it straight gay or otherwise, has no place in Schools. Our children aren't even learning core subjects any more, let alone how to be productive members of society. ONE reason is diverting energy and time into this, and related agendas and subjects in classrooms.

His entire group of friends are part of the lgbtq+ community and now he was sad because he wouldn't belong. He is NINE!! What are the odds of an entire group of nine year olds at one school being in the lgbtq+ community?? Pretty slim... unless they are taught that they should be. This world is effed up.

That happens when you have educators celebrating the LGBTQ kids, while discouraging the straight kids. The straight kids (especially the white ones) need to learn about the LGBTQ kids, the straight kids are not like a rainbow, the straight kids are not special and have no flag, the straight kids don't get an entire month celebrating them, the straight kids will get in major trouble if they hurt the feelings of an LGBTQ kid, etc. They are drawing a clear good/evil line whether they realize it or not, and most children that age want to be good.

When I was younger, I had a puberty book that my mom bought me from the american Girl Doll. Which showed girls having their period and how it effected them emotionally, socially, biologically, and what acne is. It went over how your breast grow in and sometimes your friends will make fun of you for having breasts, but there's nothing wrong with you. It taught how girls are just growing and you will grow hair in certain places that doesn't mean you're not normal. It even showed in the book how most girls feel insecure about puberty. It was a great book it didn't have any explicit stuff like these books have. It mainly talked about what girls go through and how the world changes when you change, which this book prepared me mentally for what I was in for when I was 10.

Just have shadows represent a person's individuality instead of gender and chop the whole gender non-binary message out and replace it with "you can be a boy and wear dresses and do girly things, and girls can wear suits and do boy things". As a student myself, having suggestive books in a school that has 4-14 year old kids is not okay. I am trans, and i am all for having LGBTQ inclusive books, but if they involve sexual activities, do NOT put this into a school. And if they are so persistent, put it into a high-school. My school had a LGBTQ book where it was a lesbian relationship, there wasn't anything regarding sexual activities, making books like that is fine, its a simple romance book that you can give to grade 6+, when they really start to read into novels and lots of chapter books. Books about puberty, are in my opinion fine, as long as they are in a age appropriate group (grade 5+ ish). Books that have sexual activities in it, or are teaching people about masturbation and sex, shouldn't be in a elementary school (jk-8), but a high school. Because when someone in high school you have people who are in a much more mature part of they life. Books regarding finding LGBTQ can be in schools, but leave out highly sexual parts. If people want these books they can buy them themselves.

If a parent only wants to cover straight or gay, done.

@@mollygrace3068 Actually it IS the same process and actually a huge reason why Erotica is mostly populated and consumed by women at the same rates as video pornography is accessed by men. While the consumption is different based on gender due to males being more visually oriented because they are object oriented scientifically, the sexual arousal is the same. So yes, reading erotica in a book is just as bad as letting a 16 year old boy rent porn from the library. It activates the same arousal response and can lead into a severe disassociation between reality and fantasy when it comes to sex if this is a teens first introduction to sex. In fact, for erotica the threat is more severe. At least in porn there are actual human beings on that screen doing the acts. At worst the actors overplay the pleasure of the acts and display positions or acts only to be done by professionals (BDSM, Kinks, flexible positions, etc). But erotica is entirely in the imagination of the reader. Like reading about Christian Gray chaining up Anastasia and hitting her with a crop can mean fake foam chains and a little tap or literal bondage and hitting to dig shit out of her. The level of extremes depends on the reader and only gets more and more extreme the more you read it. Next thing you know you have girls talking about having a choking kink or into blood play at the age of sweet 16. This is obviously not normal or healthy and is just as worrying as a 16 year old boy saying he has to jack off once a day because he developed a porn addiction and can't look at a girl's midriff without popping a boner. Erotica should be for adult women, not accessible to young girls.

I'm lesbian & I hate that "LGBTQ" moniker for a so-called "community" that doesn't even include most LGB or even T people anymore! I want nothing to do with anything beyond the LGB. Everything was fine until the self-identified TQ+ started using us to claim that allowing men in women's spaces & indoctrinating children & college students was a "human right" or "civil right". The TQ+ is a way to opt-in to an "oppressed" category! How convenient in a world where victimhood & claims of oppression are rewarded! I'm older & I know how LGB people got our rights. We EARNED them. We didn't just demand things & bully people to affirm our every whim lest they lose their jobs or have the mob cancel them or be assaulted! We won hearts & minds by our character & by coming out when there was actual risk involved, not when everyone celebrated it! We won people's respect. My goal was to be integrated into the larger society where no one cared anymore about one's sexual orientation (or race), where everyone had the same rights. And WE GOT THERE! But the DEMANDS being made now by the TQ+ are not RIGHTS! They are seeking to deprive OTHER people of their rights (the safety & privacy of women & girls, freedom of speech, freedom of association, political & ideological diversity, etc)! That's a HUGE difference. I feel like these people used me as their Trojan Horse, so I cringe when I see "LGBTQ". Actual transexuals can have their own movement to build their own public spaces, services, sports leagues, etc., just as women did over the past CENTURY! Don't just steal all that hard won progress FROM women! The TQ+ are just hetero people who want to feel special & opt in to an "oppressed" group of people (who are not even actually oppressed!). The only time I will ever use those letters anymore is either by themselves or as part of "LGBTQ+WTF".

The book should be about finding a personality and interests rather than focusing on gender. Gender is not a replacement for a personality and an actual identity. If nothing matters and you're free then why do these labels matter so much to them.

I remember when I was about 17 years old, and in the Helsinki library I found a number of LGBT books. I got curious and started reading. It wasn't about sexual things or how your genitals should work, but about different relationships, struggles, different families and feelings, and it's okay to be different from others, etc. There is almost no mention of any physical stuff, because children were told about it in sex education classes.

When it comes to books I've noticed a couple of things; 1) People associate banning books, any books, with fascism. 2) They assume that if something is in a book it must be true. A few months ago I was talking to a friends girlfriend about oppression, race and all that. She had recently graduated in sociology. She was talking about how there is a hierarchy of oppression. According to some books and courses she had oppression was not only based on race but also on gender, disability, culture and other factors. Her point was basically that society should acknowledge and do more for people based on their place in this hierarchy. In her mind, because it was in a book, written by some professor it was as much a fact as a physics book. To me, the social sciences are not hard sciences. It's not the STEM fields and much of it is opinions, subjective interpretation of data, and ideology. I think it's strange that someone wrote a book ranking various groups of people on oppression and it is thought in college and on top of that it's considered a fact.

I live in Haiti and I'm going to an international french school and the wokeness is REAL. I had in English class a project regarding censored books and why they were censored in the first place. We were mainly talking about Florida's situation regarding banning LGBTQIA2S+ books in middle/high school and we had to present the books that were banned. A classmate made a presentation about Genderqueer while I did one about All Boys Aren't Blue and yk of course the class was talking about how the right is against LGBT but what stroke me was the reaction to the books we had to present. I was asking my classmate what she thought about Genderqueer and oh my god the way she said "The book is so cool, oh my god, they're showing people going at it in images" had me flabbergasted . I'm bisexual too and it's a pain how I have a bunch of woke teachers telling students how to think political wise... Can we catch a break.

7:35 My Shadow is Purple Personally, I understand why this book shouldn't be read to elementary school children, yet I still understand where it was coming from. If that makes sense. To clarify, I FEEL that the focus was a bit off with the focusing on being nonbinary. Yet, the book was RIGHT with the message that you can like things that aren't "traditionally" specific to your sex or gender. For example a male can like clothes that are considered socially female while still being a male and identifying as such. I also FEEL that the teacher had the right intention, just the wrong direction. She shouldn't have gotten fired but instead put through some type of training. I'm open to RESPECTFULLY discussing this with anyone ❤️

Books should not be banned, to adults. But kids, in grade schools, that deserves moderation. And to be clear, I 100% support sex ed. But there are right ways and wrong ways, and in some ways, depending on age, you really only need to teach consent (early on), and that doesn't even require using sex as a subject - because consent goes beyond sex.

In the same stack, I had a copy of Junji Ito's Gyo, a comic book full of mutilated naked corpses. There were no problems with it. Later that year I borrowed American Psycho from my school's library, in which I read about a rat getting shoved inside and eating it's way out of a woman's vagina. I gained nothing out of reading either - capitalist business world social satire is lost on a 13 year old. This doesn't need to be an LGBT or whatever issue. Just because it is a book, doesn't mean it is a sacred thing meant for everyone to access whenever. If you think so, you clearly haven't read enough.

I believe that certain topics should be presented to children not just on the basis of their age but their actual maturity and rediness to address a topic. Their family should be the most in tune to what is appropriate discussion. Also, relationships are hard. Sex is a part and only a part of that. No book or books are sufficient. It should be part of an ongoing comversation. If a child loses a grand parent, you dont throw a book at them and leave it at that. Raising children is the hard stuff.
