When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! Rob - you set a great example here, honesty and openness from the start. You shared all the details and we all learned something, especially from the tear-down. But then, you explained your outlook/philosophy on life. You felt you over-revved the car and that set you down a path. Now you’re learning maybe you didn’t (ECU logs), but what the hell, you’re down this path now. If it turns out there is a weakness in the design, you will know sooner or later and you can take it up with Toyota then. “What goes around comes around”, hopefully the surge in KZfaq interest allows your channel to continue to grow to new heights. And hopefully, people have learned a thing or two about the way you conduct yourself (and your business) - this can only bring good karma going forward. Keep up the awesome approach, on every level 😀

Yep, new subscriber here. Only recently I've discovered your channel (might have to have a talk about that to the YT algorythm, that took WAY too long for them to recommend) after watching you and Misha talk about influencer marketing on Mishas'YT. Appreciated the fact that you two made a video based on facts and put in the effort to check the story. Then the unfortunate Yaris event, that would have been clickbaited and dramatised the crap out of on other channels but you choose to bring some really good detailed content about it. I like that this is not only entertainment but also gives me more of an insight into lots of aspects. Another reason to follow is that I really dig your style of presenting. Chill and informative. Probs to you AND the whole team around you at APEX, it's a blast to see how you guys produce the content on both channels.

Robert, I’ve praised before your transparency and honesty. If I’m allowed, I too believe that to be the right way of doing things. As someone that works for the automotive industry for the last 14 years, mostly dealing with quality assyrance, warranty claims and in general all customer centric things, one thing I can advise on is please make sure your dealer/garage reports this back to Toyota. Even admiting to be your fault they’ll be interested in getting the facts and studying it. A company like Toyota renowed by precision engineering, reliability and all goods things will want to know if their engines are failing and why. Japanese tuners are already making +400bhp on this little engine and that’s with Turbos and remaping on everything else stock, so they sure are tough little engines but companies can only evolve and improve their products through customer feedback. Best of luck and keep the good work 👍

My son has bought a Yaris GR and showed me the wording in the warranty regarding track days. I'm literally looking for a cool, cheap track/road car so that I can join him. Here it is: *The use of the vehicle for track days or similar events does not invalidate the vehicle’s warranty. Any potential failure during a track day or similar event is not specifically excluded. A manufacturing defect within the warranty period will be supported as normal. However, as per the standard warranty policy and procedure, failure resulting from either of the following would not represent a manufacturing defect and therefore would not be supported within the terms of the warranty: - The use of non-approved performance enhancements or modifications. - Neglect, abuse or misuse.* The last bit is key, and you've been very open and honest about that. If I were your Toyota dealership, I'd take that failure on the chin (and not because you're an influencer) ((I hate that word!!)) ☮️✌️❤️🙏

Hey Rob, me again, you know, what would make this channel sweet would be if you guys had a car that everyday folk could get their hands on on the track. A good old e30 325i e30 in stock form. A simple mk2/mk1 golf gti in stock form. I find that many of the cars on the channel might always be out of reach for me. I would love to see the route you guys would go in regular cars, even if its just one. As the channel grows, do that. A good 80s car A good 90s car Something nice from the early 00's I hope it happens. I watch every video and hope that Apex keeps growing. All of the best bud

Robert, your integrity defines you as a person. Don't let others tell you that it is okie to not admit what you did in the future. It will reflect on your corporate culture in Apex and will yield multifold benefits downstream for your business and your legacy. You are not an internet influencer but an automotive thought leader. Good move on not franchising your Apex as an international brand as you try to build your media presence. Do concentrate on your core competency and maybe create an online platform for other contributions in order to grow. Thank you for your videos as I learn new things about cars every time I view your videos and Misha's. Have a good week ahead and stay safe. Greeting from Singapore/Malaysia.

I have been thinking about the valve train failier since the last video on the engine and taking all the information given have come to the conclusion that its highly likely there was a fault with the engine not associated with the miss shift. Time will tell and I'm sure Toyota will do the right thing if this proves to be the case. The car is warranted for track use. Admire the way Robert is handling the issue. Following with interest.👌

Why would Toyota pay for your money shift? I used to be a rep for Toyota USA. We paid for money shift's on the old Celica's. I had one customer where we replaced the engine under warranty 3 times due to him missing the shit. To this day I don't understand why Toyota made the decision to cover these repairs under warranty. The first Celica to arrive at the San Francisco Regional office the engine was destroyed due to money shit. It took less than one day.

Okay, I have a suggestion : an open garage where people can do minor repairs, like swap out brake pads or wheels, before and/or after tf or trackday. Some of us come from far away, and might not want to drive the full trip on road slicks and squealing race pads, but bring a set in the trunk, and it kinda sucks to sit in the gravel at Lindner and change wheels or pads. I dunno how many people would use that option, or what it would cost, but I would love it😂

wise words about honesty and franchising... Why trying to be greed and try to max profit. Better to keep it relaxed and fun ... also to customers.

It actually took it very well. I still think it is going to be a problem though, mainly due to how long and thin the valve springs are and being single.

ThiloX misses gears in his videos. Do you think there's a minor design problem with the Yaris' "H" gear gate? Perhaps needs a design tweak? PS. Mad respect to Sabine and everything she did for The Nurburgring and racing. I'll miss her dearly.

@@RobertMitchell No problem Robert. It could just be something to get used to so still not Toyota's fault. You absolutely did the right thing in owning your error. You'll get all your money back in laps, just a bump in the road. Cheers!

More people should take responsibility, it would be better world for all as nowadays more and more people think that everything is someone else's problem. So thank U for it.

A follow up on that expansion to other tracks question, since that is not on the cards (which makes sense), would you do a similar partnership like you do for taxi for organizing rentals at Spa? The next time I head to the ring I'd love to also spent a day at Spa, I regret not doing that when I did a Euro-delivery back in 2017.

I like to think I know a bit about cars but can honestly say not a massive amount but I thought all modern cars have Rev limiters and no matter if you miss a gear ( we have all done that ) or sit and put your foot to the floor it will only rev to a certain amount consequently not allowing such damage - because if this is not the case surely this is going to happen many times in a manual hot hatch - I have just doublechecked and Toyota are making a minimum of 25,000 and if there is demand (which that is looking like the case) they will make more !! It is very honest of you to tell Toyota but I honestly believe that in this case you have been too honest and the millions that Toyota make ( 285 billion dollars last year) they should applaud your honesty and insist on fixing your car for free using yours as a possible issue going forward. 👍great content - appreciated here in the UK.

Robert, one more thing. Toyota won’t listen to me but you are a “Tier-1-Influencer!” Would you please call Toyota and convince them to sell the GR Yaris in the U.S.? You’ll be the Mac Daddy of Influencers if you can get Toyota to listen. We need you, Robert Mitchell! 🙏🏻

I’m of your view on Apex’s expansion. I think what people love is exactly what your aware of. People love the accessibility of you, and because your all genuine and very likeable it makes what you do very desirable, interesting and fun to watch and feel like you can be a part of. Like you said once you spread yourself to thin, or just become to big and less unique you could very easily lose that closeness that people feel to Apex and all of you that make it what it is.
