Well that happened a heck of a lot faster than expected! Here is a surprise lap video with the Yaris and this week we will sit down with the car, its broken parts and even talk about what it cost me to repair it over the last two weeks....
00:00 Banter from the Marshall…
00:07 Hey everybody I’m Robert!
00:25 Hey Misha and George
00:32 I apologise!
01:33 We’re back on track!
02:04 What was replaced in the engine?
02:44 What happened to the piston and rods?
03:30 What did we do to the intake cam?
03:54 The bill…?
04:12 Manthey Racing Porsche train!
04:42 Too many Porsches?
05:17 Is this thing still on? GoPro nonsense…
05:32 New Mods! Seats, Harnesses, Cage!!!
06:38 It sounds so good!!!
09:52 End of the lap - thoughts…
10:20 Thanks for following the GR Yaris journey so far!
10:49 Anyone want a keyring?
11:20 Thanks for watching and goodbye!

And a special thank you for letting us hear those 3 porsches, had to watch that part a few times in a row because of the eargasm ;) I´m once more impressed by your type of personality. Taking responsibilly for a "mistake" (if you could call it that) you didn´t even make and owning up to it, apologizing to your community and explaining why sth happened (talking about the yaris engine rebuild here). I think your actions deserve respect and I´m glad you continue to not only give us great content, but also keep on being an awesome human being.

Great update. For me, the two things about this car that felt like scratching on a chalkboard were 1) the high seat rails and 2) the engine sounds being pumped in the through the speakers. It baffles my mind that Toyota made the seats sit that high with that wonky tubing but it's great that you fixed it. Also, even though you removed much of the sound deadening material did you leave the pumped in engine sounds in place? I loved seeing the interior tear down and it would be great to see another video that shows how the changes were made. The build process is fascinating. Another part of this video that I'm stunned by is how fast and smooth this car is with a three cylinder engine the size of a paper grocery bag! Wow! This is real 21st century technology, folks. Amidst the hoopla about electric cars the internal combustion engine was reinvented. Maybe it's because I take the subway everywhere but I'm in awe with the GR Yaris.

That was a great clip! Thanks Robert!! Many years ago! LOL :/ I had a racing car that I got back and thought that before I got the engine rebuilt! I could let my friend drive it to give it a shack down! Well on the laps that day the engine gave up big time! Eugene told me there was this really loud bang! Lets put it this way? I had in the car just one part of the block with one piston! So a complete new engine later I had a racing car! I am really pleased to see you got your car back! I cannot wait to see any of the rebuild you can show!

Toyota has a golden PR opportunity here to cover everything under warranty since the data didn't show anything out of the ordinary, but probably some bean counter will screw it up for the sake of a few thousand euros because they don't understand how influencing works in the internet era.

Maybe if he hadn’t of admitted to money shifting it on a KZfaq video they would’ve covered it... They can’t cover it now without covering anyone who damages theirs through user error, and that would get way too expensive for them.
@ohbollox2it
@ohbollox2it 3 жыл бұрын
They maybe can’t cover all the damage but possibly cover a percentage under goodwill - Ford have the DAWA scale for such purposes which gives the dealership an allowance scale for goodwill and if you’ve owned the car from new and are a repeat customer you contact customer services who can improve on the dealership scale

Those bean counters aren't accountants, they are lawyers, and they might not understand how "influencing" works, but they do understand how the law works. Toyota isn't some barnyard company that needs promotion. Anyone who might want a Yaris is not going to be "influenced" by someone like this. I know how you feel, I felt the same way as I watched the whole saga unfold, but it's just not how things work with major manufacturers. Guys like Apex don't have a racing contract. They are public consumers (who are broadcasting their fuckups to the entire world). And while some previous troll had a bad take I feel like there was some actual point hidden in his comment: The mechanics need to get paid. And in my country at least, mechanics get less pay for warantee work. So who are you hurting?

I like how the Yaris didn't have rear section of carpet/sound insulation, and it still sounds like a Dyson... might as well nickname it the GR Dyson. But then, I do wonder if exhaust/intake mods gonna make it sounds any better? Some engine sounds worse with exhaust mods. I'm surprised by how quick Toyota did with the top end rebuild/overhaul! 2 weeks & everything is back together working nicely? I'm also glad you guys went above & beyond on some replacement parts to avoid further problem. I'm also glad to hear Manthey-Racing actually solved the TUV problem with lowered seating position! Would you guys (either Robert or Misha) able to show what Manthey done? Or are they secret to Manthey?

If you want a nice street legal Exhaust for the Yaris Check out "Aulitzky Exhaust" they have a 3inch version for the Car. Or "Streamline Abgassysteme" also got a legal one in 3inch. Both are 100% made here in Germany. And HJS is developing a legal Downpipe for the Yaris

Hehe, I also wind the windows down to hear nice cars. I also beep the horn in short tunnels. Life is fun :)

No point beeping the Yaris horn in a tunnel - mine's even quieter than the exhaust!! More weight-saving I guess!

I’ve followed the journey from A to GRY 🤓 Are there any more mods or adaptions planned Robert? You’d talked about colour schemes before 👀 Rob
