I just upgraded my house with batteries. I bought everything I needed through my company, then resold it to myself without VAT as a complete system.

@@inh415 if it's a VAT registered business, it's free to engage in any legal trade it likes. So long as your passing on the full cost.

Could a general building company that is VAT registered claim the VAT back on solar equipment, install using qualified sparkys where necessary and then 0 rate vat to the customer?

It depends as you will have to account for why you bought the equipment if its not related to your business

If you're not VAT registered you might want to think about doing something else as you've obviously failed at running a business... You can turn over £85k doing a three day week!
