@@chloefig1833 oh, I see what you’re saying. I’m not saying that’s a bad approach, but calling that a “Biblical” diet isn’t entirely accurate. That way of eating was imposed by the Law of Moses prescribed to the Israelites during Old Testament times. We understand this as the old covenant. Once Jesus came, he made all those “unclean” foods clean. I’m not saying they’re the best foods for us humans to consume, but Jesus did call them clean.

I have been Whole Food Plant Based for six years and I feel great. My question is, if we are meant to be strictly whole food plant based eaters, how is it that we need to supplement omega-3 for optimal health - wouldn't our bodies have evolved to efficiently process the omega-3 we obtain from all the plants we eat if it's vital to our survival. Yes we can get high sources of Omega-3 from ocean sludge, but what about all the ancient plant eaters who never even had access to flax seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts, algae, etc. Seems to be some kind of disconnect. I eat a very small amount of flax seeds, and other omega-3 rich plant foods, but I'm not religious about it. I do it because I include it with all the other plant foods that I eat - I don't count Omega-3s. Do we really need "excess" Omega-3 - what ever that means...

Wow, I am glad I am limiting my consumption of oysters or clams to 2 or 3 times a year. For the rest, I am on a vegan diet with omega 3 supplement. My last test was at 7.59%. I know of the toxicity in fish. I think that fish eating was ok before the industrial revolution. But now, my motivation is ethic and environmental. We are inflicting so much pain on aquatic animals and the ocean with our fish eating habit.

If that helps, I find microplankton is a great way to get omega 3 and many other nutrients. It's quite expensive for that matter but high quality! It's a whole food not a supplement.

Understanding the importance of proper brain health, several health organizations provide recommendations for the daily omega-3 fatty acid consumption. Modern standards recommend adults to take at least 500mg of DHA and EPA per day, while children need to consume at least 150mg and up to 250mg per day.

Is there any danger of overdosing with DHA/EPA? I take a plant-based supplement, plus I eat 2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds plus crushed walnuts every day with breakfast, plus I eat a handful of pumpkin seeds and other raw nuts (almonds, cashews). Is it possible I would get too much DHA/EPA? What does too much do to me?

Science shows that vegan whole plant food diet leads to much better health outcomes. Fish is dangerous for multiple reasons. Toxic metals, dangerous chemicals, high amounts of saturated fat, TMAO, …. Not to mention the negative impacts of over fishing and the experience of the fish who gets killed. The fish make DHA from eating algae. Just eat the algae and stop all the harm.

Look. If you care about ethics, you *can* eat an extremely healthy diet and thrive. If you don’t care about ethics, you’ll look for any little thing to justify your narrative, so you can say - I care about ethics as much as the next guy, but see, my hands are tied - I *have* to exploit animals to thrive. And here is Joel Fuhrman saying, no, you don’t have to exploit animals to thrive. You can take a tiny B12 tablet. You can take a DHA supplement - just in case you are one of those people who doesn’t convert ALA to EPA to DHA as efficiently as optimal. But you don’t hear that. You hear what you want to hear.

I had the bruising eating Dr. Fuhrmans way. Turned out I needed iron. Check KZfaq videos on low iron despite normal hemoglobin. Iron blood levels (Ferritin) need to be close to 100. ❤ my bruising vastly reduced, as did my anxiety. That surprised me. I still eat Nutritarian. Everyone is different as Dr. F points out in this video.
