Should you skip leg day? The answer depends on your goals. If you want full body aesthetics - training lower body makes you balanced. For those who want to specialise - time and energy should be directed to the upper body. Most people want strength and muscle mass in their legs and should not skip workouts. Choose exercises you enjoy as this helps with adherence. Machines, free weights or calisthenics are all effective for growing the legs.

As a calisthenics guy, i would superset pistol squats with nordic curls(4 sets each) and do calf raise for 3 sets. And done there's my leg workout. I only do this twice a week. Doesn't take more than 25 minutes. Simple but effective.

Beside your well thought and organized programs you offer, the countless videos you have uploaded for all of us to see and educate ourselves, for free, i immensely respect and appreciate your words in each and every video. People don't understand how much time consuming is to create one of your videos, and especially one with a lot of talking, like this one. The truth is that when i watch your videos, i truly pay attention to what you say, each sentence and each word. They are so well organized and there is not a single word unnecessary or redundant. You always get your point across and make sure you are coherent and practical with what you say. There have been times when i watch the same video of yours and i keep discovering new meanings and concepts i hadn't realised when i watched it for the first time. They are so packed with information and advice that one needs to focus and pay attention to grasp what you are saying and why. What i know, and apply to my training, basically comes from you. I have,as we all have, watched and listened to many fitness influencers and athletes, but you were the reason/motivation for me to search and learn. You made my training sustainable, enjoyable and effective. For all of these reasons i always respect, appreciate, support, admire, love and follow FitnessFaqs and Daniel himself. Happy 2024 Daniel! Thank you for teaching, inspiring, being honest and consistent, and mostly for being a beautiful example of what true passion, hard work, constant learning and integrity can achieve! All the best!👏🙏❤️

Bigger legs simply burn more calories as you use them even when just walking around. As someone who loves good food and also enjoys having a drink with friends, this is such a great reason to train legs. They simply help with not putting on weight.

This is why I do full body workouts. If every day is leg day, there's no temptation to skip leg day. Nor will you accumulate as much fatigue as you would from a dedicated leg day because of all the volume you have to do in one workout to progress.

2:58 This statement should literally echo across the entire fitness industry as I cannot stress this enough. Everyone that never cares about the whole leg prefers bigger or more toned arms and torso, sometimes quads too. But otherwise calves, soleus, and shins are easily frowned upon. I see competitions where they stand with twigs but have remarkable upper body presentation, and the question that comes in mind is “why?”

I enjoy leg training but I've never done it consistently or really cared since all my goals are upper body skills and at 190cm many are already not possible for me without getting heavier on top of that. Looking at the rare exceptions who can perform those skills despite being heavy isn't very compelling since I'm unlikely to be on that level. I'm running out of time to make progress as it is so making it slower for no reason just doesn't seem worth it.

Focus on weighted pull ups but have began to train my legs harder than ever before by a significant margin roughly 3 weeks ago. It could just be a coincidence but I had a bit of an upper body strength breakthrough the other day. Would like to think that the leg training had at least a small part in it. Thinking that perhaps the effort and determination I put into the leg training spilled over to other parts of my training. Also, though I assume the effect is overstated, maybe my body produced slightly more growth hormon and testosterone as a result of the much tougher leg training. Started doing 7 sets of heavy belt squats 12-15 reps ( 5 min rest between sets) on my leg day followed by isolation exercises. Have a lower back issue and don't want to load my spine so belt squats is a good exercise. Aiming to do 20 reps per set. I'm using a weight that is very heavy for me so I have to pause at the top for the reps. So each set is more like continuous 1 reps. Hell lol. Toughens you up that's for sure. Previously I did a lot of stuff for my legs but never squats because of the spine issue. Never considered belt squat machine before.
@Spidey_Ethan
@Spidey_Ethan 6 ай бұрын
I had a similar story. I always trained legs (never skipped), but I never trained them EQUALLY. I would hon on runs, do some body weight lunges and squats, but never loaded up any of those with more weight. When I DID start programming my legs similarly to my upper body, I broke through an upper body plateau I was experiencing. I don’t have as many leg days in my weekly plan as I do upper body, but I train my legs with equal intensity now and it’s incredible the difference it’s made.
@Ratatosk80

@@Spidey_Ethan Yeah it changes you thats for sure. I honestly never understood how truly grueling leg days actually can be. Upper body is childsplay in comparison. Im actually sick as a dog atm. Did legday yesterday pushing myself the furthest I have ever done in the gym. Crashed when I got home, slept for 12 hours straight and running a fever now. Did 7 sets of 12 reps on the belt squat machine, so 84 reps total. 180, 187, 190, 190, 192, 195, 200 kg. Feels fucking insane lol. Stupid as hell to train when feeling sick but at least I learned something about how hard I can push myself. Its belt squat machine so not the same as barbell in regards to weight. Still think that workout is pretty impressive. Started out using 140 kg so crazy progression.

I do bodyweight sissy squats and bulgarian single leg squats, 15-30 reps for 3-5 sets, two or three times a week as my leg workout because I don't really have access to high enough weights for my legs(I don't have a gym membership or high weights at home, just a small dumb bell and a pull up bar). I tried the gym once to see my leg strength and warmed up on leg press with a plate a side for 20 reps, and worked up to 4 plates a side for 8 reps before my messed up knees started to feel off(osgood schlatter). Nothing crazy but for someone that doesn't work his legs with weights I'm pretty happy with that.

When it comes to legs I only train calves. Unless you wear short-shorts like the 70s, nobody will ever see your upper legs in public - not even on the beach. Unless you are trying to be a professional body-builder (or your upper legs are freakishly small) upper leg training isn't worth how grueling it is imo.

This is the reasonable point of view I was looking for so long. If I find something horrid to see, it is a guy with disproportional legs that is proud on his huge hips. So so often, it just does not look aesthetic at all. Recently I started lifting again and am also thinking about whether I should train them, as my legs are naturally already strong to the point of having a much stronger lower body than upper body. The internet would tell me to 'not skip leg day', but why should I not?

In the spirit of the video's view of respecting each other's views, I respect your view xd however, I think legs that are much stronger than the upper body in theory should naturally look the best.
