Standing is the best way to mow. Standers are faster, lighter, easier on the turf, more ergonomic, and give you more performance for your dollar.
Wright started as a landscaping company and wanted a better mower and so we created the stand on mower. Today we build the most productive and versatile commercial mowers.

I can hardly wait to buy my new Wright Standers! Just a few more weeks, then I'll have a 36" & a 52". I wish Wright would make a mowing video every week, because when I'm not mowing, I love watching mowing videos, especially when there is a Wright Stander in the video!

Wright Commercial Mowers - I demoed a hustler Stand on. Here are my thoughts of why I didn't buy it: 1. I don't like how the deck was the kill/safety switch; bouncing on a yard constantly made the machine kill on the up of a bounce and then start on the down. 2. sometimes we get stuck (say in the mud, next to a fence, etc), having the Killswitch on the deck means we can't get off to push and makes it heavier if you have a guy pulling. 3. I didn't feel safe, instantly. I wouldn't want to train a new guy on one, only a highly experienced guy. 4. I didn't like having to hang on. I would prefer a steering type more like the zero turns, or like the Hustler walk behind (like motorcycle handlebars). However, I'm sure this is a true design challenge. * My thought immediately was to have the Killswitch on the handlebars, again like the hustler walk behind. 5. Although the mower was shorter than the zero turns, it was actually bulkier on the trailer and I had to back it up to get it on the trailer. 6. It is so heavy we could not rely on this mower getting into some yards which requires us to jump a curb or sidewalk. When we have those types of yards the walk behind can get over them and they are light enough in the front we can lift the front end. I hope my 2 cents helps with a design. I truly would like to use a stand on as my back is getting worse and now needing injections. The sitting makes my back worse. Thanks for the videos. keep 'em coming!

I want the old days back when I could get off my mower and it kept running. I want the old days back when I was treated as an adult who had a clue rather than a brain dead idiot. Too many "safety" features these days. Heck, gas cans now have safety features! Rant over ... for now.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the wright stander mowers. They brought me a stander x to demo and man it’s just exactly what anyone needs if they’re mowing hills and slopes. I want one SOOOO bad but payday and boss lady at home says nope. I have worked on a few of these and used them and I can’t really say anything bad about these mowers except it’s a little tough to get to a dealership. My nearest dealership is about 1hr. and 45min. away but they’re super friendly and super helpful. The mower seriously holds the ground really well as to be expected by design. All I can say is take the time to demo a model that you are interested in and see what you think about it.

We've used the Toro Grandstand since they've come out. I will take a stand on over a ride on any day of the week. Not as fatigued at the end of the day, less weed whacking because I can get under low hanging trees with no problem, can mow steeper hills (yea not advised in the owners manual), we don't get stuck as much as we did with the ride on and when we do they're easier to pull out. Also we can fit 4 grandstands in the same space that two ride ons take up. And to those asking how your legs feel after mowing 5 plus hours at a time (I've done it) it's nowhere close to what you think. You;re not stiff, sore, etc. Another cool feature is if you become good enough, you can weed whack and blow from the platform of the stand on which decreases the amount of time spent on the job.

if mowing a lot of acres you're standing up for hours then have to stand up to trim. give me a break!!! Yeah step off mower and into the pond it goes. most used mowers are walkbehinds and riders as a combination. there's nothing young and get done. Standups PLEASE DO NOT take on hills or around ponds...there goes $10k down the toilet.

We just bought a Wright velke today and love it so far. Ive been looking into the standers but have one concern. A lot of our properties aren't flat or have holes/low spots in the yard. My concern is the stander scalping these areas since there is no way to lift the deck while riding. Do you have any advice you can give since most of these customers do not want to fill these in or top dress.

Wright Commercial Mowers I work at a country club with two courses and I can tell you it’s every bit as bumpy as a small yard, if not more so. That’s a really bad argument. Also we use gravel maintenance paths to move around the course, if u were on a stander it’d fling you right off. Standing mowers are the absolute worst there’s no way to justify them

Stand on mowers are terrible on hill sides , and when I used one I hurt my back because it tosses you around more. I've mowed 15 accounts for 13 years and the only reason other mowing service's use stand on mowers is they can put more of them on a trailer.

For mowing flat, open areas with little to no bumps, I could see a standing mower being the more practical option. However, I've been mowing grass at a cemetery for over 6 years now and these mowers just wouldn't be practical. The land is too bumpy and it's easier to detect dips and high spots in the ground when you're sitting lower to it, which is especially important for mowing over headstones in the ground that are sometimes a bit too high. Also I have a feeling the standing mower decks are a pain to work on when a belt pops off or something, being the engine is right on top of them. But I do agree with most of the other benefits of the standing mowers.
@WrightMowers
@WrightMowers 7 жыл бұрын
Brandon, We actually do quite well in the cemetery business--easy to navigate tight areas and good visibility on all sides, including the back. Since the engine floats with the deck--belts don't angle and pop off--most can be replaced in 5 min w/no tools. Like many mowers, the hydro belt is a little more involved. -Ed

Does it make you feel like Ben Hur? As the saying goes, "Different strokes for different folks." I just can't see an ad on TV, like the one for gutter guards, where I'm not given a hint as to what they cost. One could at least tell us the cost as it compares to something that we know the general price of.
@jhomrich89
@jhomrich89 2 жыл бұрын
There is definitely pros and cons to both of them. For instance the ability to add a clamshell bagger you can't do that on a stand on. Or if you want a diesel engine stand on mowers don't offer that. And indeed some guys prefer to sit versus standing. If you can get used to standing though I think you would have a great mower, less trailer space and can get into tighter spots then a regular zero turn.

This would make sense, if people actually used a siting mower how you're supposed to. But nobody buckles in on a mower lol. So getting up to pick something up (if you don't do that before mowing like you're supposed to) isn't any more timely than the standing mower. And "You have to CLIMB up into the machine", ok come on now, it's one step. No climbing involved. And to the main point, how is standing better (in a physical standpoint) than sitting? I have to mow a huge field and never have any stiffness in my back, I actually feel very loose and in a way numb, I guess from all the intense vibrating from my mower. But yeah, I don't feel stiff at all. I guess that depends on the seat itself, and the way you sit in it.

Two points: (1) My back doesn't hurt after mowing in the seat for an hour or more. In fact, after age 40, it feels much better! (2) I'm not jumping on and off the mower to pick up trash. I've already walked the property and cleared it. (3) You talk a good game, but I've noticed that you never start and demonstrate your mowers in your videos, despite having obviously better design and materials built into them! That said, I do enjoy the stand-on mowers because they're just fun! Wright kicks ass!

A-Veteran Lawn Care the only problem I have with my local wright dealer is they’re about an hour and fourth five minutes away. But they make up for being so far away by being extra friendly and super helpful. I’ve had them wait 45 minuets after closing to get me parts I needed. I don’t own one of these mowers (but I would if my paycheck would permit it) I have done some repairs on them. I love everything about these mowers except the earlier models that offered the intek Briggs. Wright quickly caught on that intek Briggs was a junky engine and dropped em. I think the only Briggs they offer now is the vanguard Briggs and it’s not even built by Briggs. I believe it’s built by Daihatsu. If I’m wrong someone can correct me but I believe I saw a Daihatsu label on the few I’ve worked on but can’t remember for sure.

Yes, you absolutely need to survey the site for any hazards. I'm thinking more of the amount of times you need to get on/off the mower when you need to unload a trailer or open a gate. You may even use the mower for transportation to the back of a property to move something in the way. -Ed

So you'll spend two or three minutes walking around an acre of a yard to check for stuff that shouldn't be there and if there is you'll walk the whole way to the end of the property to pick it up and move it and then walk back why not just get off your standon as you get close to it, sounds to me like you'll use less time with a stand-on than you do pre walking the property

Wright Commercial Mowers ok cool thanks for responding. I don't even know who great Dane is lol. First time I ever seen a stand on personally was from a grandstand. Just based on visuals as I've never operated a wright mower, your company would be the only company I'd ever consider other then Toro. I can tell by the quality of that deck that you have a sturdy mower, because I am rough on mine that's the most important thing for me

36 " stand up efi with a mulching deck or at least a chute blocker , I asked scag fb page the same question ..got no answer
@WrightMowers
@WrightMowers 7 жыл бұрын
Mike, That would be a sweet combo. Chute blockers and mulch kits are usually offered as dealer installed options. EFI prices are coming down and probably will be low enough in the next couple years that they make more sense for smaller deck mowers. One thing about 32" and 36" mowers is they tend to be used more on smaller yards or as a trim mower and so don't accumulate as many hours as quickly, and so EFI takes longer to pay off compared to larger 72" and 61" mowers that use 1.5-2 gallons per hour in heavy use. Thanks, Ed

I'll stick to sitting while mowing. Just carry a folding hand tool that reaches small objects on the ground that you don't want to hit. $10.00 or less each. What back problems from sitting? Spinal stenosis is worse when standing.

Knees and ankles don't like this. A stand up fork lift works because warehouse floors are smooth concrete but even then its not uncommon to see a pallet picker with a knee brace or have had knee surgery. I agree a WB or stander can be beneficial in specific applications but a quality mower equipped with a high end suspension seat really can't be beat for acreage. I like my Grasshopper diesel front mount but a simple walk behind, even a gear drive needs to be in my fleet for backup and for hills my 1,300# diesel mower won't climb.

Standing straight is not natural, these mowers give you knee problems. A friend of mine had to get two knee operations because of these things. Pushing is more natural because you are walking. But these you are standing straight and our spines are curved. In my opinion it's better to get a rider.
