If you've been around water polo for the last 50 years you know that most coaches don't like to teach eggbeater. Furthermore, most coaches teach it incorrectly, by sitting a student at the edge of the pool and telling them to circle there feet. We discuss why this is the wrong way to teach how to tread water and why.

I got two water polo teenagers in my house who have been trying to teach me eggbeaters for a year and this is the advice that finally made everything click for me

This is so important! I was never taught how to eggbeater as a player yet I achieved all American status 5 times; I say that not to brag but because it is absurd! I always wonder what could have been? I was born with club feet which gave me and my coaches an excuse but I see that doesn’t matter! I now have been coaching for 25 years and my athletes are struggling to eggbeater. I feel ashamed about that but I am currently correcting this problem in my program. It has become our priority! This made my day! You certainly did overachieve given the fact that you were never taught to eggbeater, that's incredible. I have been struggling to tread water and keep head out, my body sits very low with only the eyes out. I am very hopeful to try this correction. Hope i am able to get my head out of water with this technique

In my 20 years of coaching it’s almost always an issue with the breaststroke kick first. Fix that then try the eggbeater. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
