Wildwood Off Grid Alaska

3 жыл бұрын

Spring has finally hit Alaska! Join me as I travel hundreds of miles to get our equipment in Tok Alaska and get ready to start milling lumber for our off grid homestead. Stick around and watch some amazing footage of my trip to Juneau Alaska, where I do some crabbing and get some drone footage of a huge group of Sea Lions.

I see they moved the boat ramp in Douglas harbor over near where the old city bus barn was and where Tanners service center was below if it's still there the state building in Douglas next to where Douglas cold storage/fish processor. Use to work at Douglas cold storage when I was in high school back in 1983. You had just just the south end of the snow avalanche across from Douglas harbor. They got some video of this year they used a helicopter with charges to bring it down. I remember they use to setup the national guard with a howenzer over at Sandy beach to bring down the snow slide. Give the city workers a few days to clean up Thyne road so the people who lived down Thyne road could go back home. Brian comes on usely video on Sunday. I see it's been a long winter up there. Somer's in Alaska over at North Pole were showing some fresh first of the spring snow that melted quick. Good luck in Tok

Glad to see you back in Tok making the dream happen. Oh boy now I know Jeff’s secret spot for crab😂 I see you guys were having an issue with King crab too. Man, isn’t it nice to be able to build what you want without government overreach. I love it. I checked their channel, they don’t seem too cool. 😆 Great meeting you, Jeff and Pam. Just dropped off my hide to Jeff yesterday. You guys take care. I’m looking forward to seeing the build happen.

Hey Brian, watch it now buddy😁 I’ve always struggled with king crab getting in the pots this time of year. No government overreach is one of my favorite things about the free state of Alaska. I checked out those Lucas mills and they’re not as expensive as I said but still at the upper end. Take it easy.

Wow busy times but you are getting there. Excited to see the progression this year. Just had my second Covid vaccine dose yesterday and am paying the price today.....fever and feeling like I rolled down a rock pile. Will pass though I am sure. So happy to see that the neck is healing albeit slower than you would like. Spring is taking its time in upstate NY as well, we are supposed to get a hard frost tonight......sooo glad I did not put my veggies in yet. Am following the rule of thumb for Memorial Day weekend. All the best folks.

Overall I'm liking your channel, but I'd like to note two things I definitely do NOT like: 1. The constant 'back and forth' of only a few feet, going left to right, right to left, again and again: annoying and boring: changing up the background would be much nicer as we would get to see more of your property, especially if you were to use some drone footage. 2. Instead of repeating that it takes 6 hours each way from Wasilia to Tok, how about you edit a montage of the trips during different weather conditions and time of year? We understand quite well now that it takes 6 hours each way....and this is the first episode of yours I've watched......got here via Brian our of Juneau. I would love for you to get schematic of your property (even hand drawn), or better a drone flight, showing where you plan to have buildings, sheds, and that cabin. Further, if you were to show us the roads in and out of your place, and yes, a schematic again, showing where your property is in relation to your neighbors, we'd get a great idea of the lay of the land and how it fits into where you and your wife are planning to live. The crabbing sequence was fantastic! I've lived in Wyoming since 1991, graduated high school here, but my formative years were spent in Edmonds, WA, and from Fri. after school to Sunday night, I was down at the docks fishing and crabbing....back when Edmonds and the rest of WA state were still civilized, a great place to live, and we didn't have but a handful of lunatics in Olympia in the legislature or governor's house! However, considering how nice that boat is you were on, I kept shaking my head going "Why does that fellow Grey Beard NOT have a motorized/electric pickup on that rig?" WAY too much arm and back work doing it the manual way! I'm planning on moving to the Kenai when I get my house here sold: tired of -50F Winters.......Kenai is MUCH more civilized by comparison! Too wet down Brian's way (thought several places might be nice there, but with a minimum of 80" of rain to 120"-150" of rain a YEAR, that's WAY too wet for me! 25"-40" is much more civilized). Anywho....I've sub'd and dinged the bell and I'll start going through your archives to watch more of you videos. Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central WY
