Equipment shows up to clear the land so the well rig can get in and drill our well. Stick around and see how we get water on our homestead. Its always a gamble drilling a well.

Note to self....my dad did this when our old house burned down. Dug a huge hole and buried all the debris in it. 20 years later the debris is composting down and making a sink hole. Dad also forgot where the edge of the hole started and built the new house about 6 ft inside the edge so we've had to re level twice.

Ouch. We placed the debris hole out of the way in an area that will never be built on.😊

So glad you hit water where you thought you would and at the depth you thought it would be. When I first saw the rig I thought Wouldn't it be funny if they hit oil. LOL. Your grand daughter did a fine job on camera. Have a wonderful visit and see you when you get back.

Talira says thank you. Unfortunately, here in Alaska all mineral rights belong to the state. That is one reason why Alaskan residents get the PFD check every year.

couldnt wrap my mind around all that mound being able to just disappear until I saw the aerial shot you did and how much you were able to clear in such a short time. fascinating and your young You Tube assistant did an amazing job today.

Question from down under. Here we scrape useless stumps in a heap and burn them off burying the ash. sometime we mulch them with a large woodchipper and use the mulch as a means of retaining moisture in our veggie / fruit gardens. Found it interesting that you bury them green and wet. Is that usual to do so in Canada? What's the reason you don't burn them or chip them?
@wildwoodoffgridalaska

It comes down to what is easiest. We live in a high fire danger area and fires are prohibited during most of the year. Mulching is not an option due to lack of available equipment, so the best and cheapest way is to bury it all.

140 ft for the well umm what was the cost to drill the well cap it and install a pump plus frost free facet? Enjoy your videos
@wildwoodoffgridalaska
@wildwoodoffgridalaska Жыл бұрын
$60 per ft to drill. I purchased the pump and we’ll cap and did the work myself. Total cost was close to $9k.

Never saw a drill rig like that. Looks like a pile driver. They just drove the pipe in the ground till you hit the water table. Is that right?
@wildwoodoffgridalaska
@wildwoodoffgridalaska 3 жыл бұрын
So they used a drill to drill down then pounded the 6” steel casing. The drill head was actually inside of the casing as they went. They used what’s called an air rotary drill rig.

I use DaVinci resolve 16. My best advice for you son is to just publish videos. Start now and learn as you go. He will find his audience and they are very understanding for beginners.

I'm surprised that a lot of those hardwood trees that are in that pile aren't worth cutting up for firewood, when you will be off grid and probably doing a lot of wood stove heating?
@wildwoodoffgridalaska
@wildwoodoffgridalaska 3 жыл бұрын
There are no hardwoods right in the pile. I believe what your talking about are the aspen trees which are terrible wood for a stove. I tried to salvage all wood that I considered good wood.

Why not just burn the stumps?
@wildwoodoffgridalaska
@wildwoodoffgridalaska 4 жыл бұрын
Burning I frowned upon in our area because of how dry it is. Forest fires are a real concern and the community works hard to minimize any risk. We don’t have immediate access to fire services so we need to be careful.

@@wildwoodoffgridalaska oh, I would thought the lower temps would keep it from being dried out.
