Tree is an Aspen, the others are black spruce and white spruce, cottonwood is the trees down by the Tok River and have the rough bark. The low bush cranberries are actually a lingonberry and are wonderful first thing in the spring after they have fermented slightly over the winter. 😂🤷‍♀️

Wife and I bought a 10 acre parcel in the southern Oregon mountains. We have a year round stream, lots of oak, maple, alder and evergreen trees. There’s 3 acres of open field for goats, cows and a two container barn. Lots of wild black berry’s. I prefer the 30 acres over the five. The five acres will give you a start for fire wood for setting up a place to stay in the flatter/clearer areas on the 30 acres. Have fun and God bless. Ron and Grace

One thing I would consider would be accessability in winter. Tok is much further north than Wasilla and winter temps drop considerably more than down south near the Cook Inlet area. Beautiful country to be sure but even in Palmer where I used to live, the luxury of an occasional snow plow was a huge bonus. BUT, if you're outfitted for it and have four wheel drive vehicles to transit in that area (30 acres or even 5 acres) then you could conceivably deal with it. Just fuel for future thought. As long as the water table was reachable, water wouldn't be a concern. And then there's the permafrost issue. I'd be interested in seeing your decision. Still, it's a beautiful place and I'm sure you've paid your dues to be able to enjoy a place such as this!

Ryan, I know this is an older video and you'll have started building on this 30 acre site already, I just wanted to add that the labor you have already done to the 5 acre's only added to your investment as that labor added to the value of that 5 acres. I also wanted to mention how much I enjoy your video's be blessed and may 2021 be a better year than 2020.

So my thoughts are clear out the 30 acres areas for where and what you need there. Keep the other 5 acres maybe a wood storage facility to store cords at maybe if close and plausible. Now i will always favor more acreage over less acreage. I would suggest having a good plan and knowing how to execute it would be the more crucial part of this project for you.

Although I’m about a year late with my comment I’d go withe 30 acres. You’ll be able to shape a park like setting for your grand kids and create a generational compound that could be handed down generation after generation. Develop the 5 acre lot, sell it and with the profits put that money into the 30 acres.

I just started watching you yesterday so I have no idea where you started building because it's been 3 years since the question was asked, but my thoughts since you posed the questions would be to build on your 5 acres, while you sit on the 30 acres and use that time to watch the landscape throughout the year, get to know the snowfall in and out accessibility. Learn what is on theland do your research by living near it. Just my thoughts

I would make your home on the 30 acres. If you were planning on living off grid, it would be a better place because you would get more sun light for solar. I would have to mark a trail though, I would get lost (in either place) LOL. Also if you want to have plenty of animals for self sustaining life style you will need the 30 acres. Have a Blessed day. PS....there is probably enough wood in clearing to build your house.

What beautiful land! What are the positives of the 5 acres, the fact you have some cleared or can you get electricity there? Would you be doing solar at the 30 acres? Last question..how much snow falls in Tok?
@wildwoodoffgridalaska
@wildwoodoffgridalaska 4 жыл бұрын
The positives are that the land has been cleared but also that power is only a few hundred ft away. It’s also in a more accessible area. The 30 acres is going to require about 1 mile of road to be put in at my expense. Tok has about the same precipitation as Mesa, AZ and only get about 35” or snow over the year.
