In "Taryl & Friends", Taryl tackles his first EFI (Fuel Injected) engine. He will attempt to replace the OEM (Original Engine Manufacturer) high pressure fuel pump with an aftermarket one found on the internet. Will it work? Will it need modification?

Thanks for the helpful and fun video. I have a Kohler ECH-730 that's giving me fits. Runs smoothly for 8-10 minutes then dies like the switch was shut off. I tried replacing the HP fuel pump with one from Amazon after watching this video (and countless hours of other troubleshooting). It plugged right up and works. It didn't fix the problem of the unit dying after 8-10 minutes (temperature dependent...cold weather, no problem (cold is

Blows my mind that an electric motor with brushes immersed in gasoline doesn't ignite. I was told by a few mechanics that it's actually cooled by the gas and will fail prematurely if ran with low fuel levels in autos

Thats why you should never bench test an in tank pump, because you are introducing oxygen. Yes, try to avoid running your car with the low fuel light on, as the fuel is returning to the tank and getting hotter and hotter and so is the pump, without enough fuel to cool it.

Liquid fuel doesn't burn, it's the vapors mixed with oxygen that burns.

Hey Taryl, that double pump arrangement is fairly common on mercury and Yamaha outboard motors (usually less than 100hp). Seems they need the vacuum provided to the first pump to fill the injection pump. Anyway I only mention this because it is commonly used on fuel injected outboards. Anyway another entertaining, utube video, thanks.

I have an F115 Yammy and it has the VST tank with a motor an a 5 micron filter - the filter clogs every 3-4 years with just a haze of varnish on it. Takes me 3-4 hrs to replace it.

Hey Taryl great video as usual. It is possible that the original Kohler pump failed due to the fuel filter that was on that unit. Kohler has very specific parameters for the micron rating of the fuel filter that is supposed to be used with their EFI engines. That is why the O.E.M. kit comes with a new fuel filter. If a filter with too large of a micron rating (like the normal Kohler fuel filter) is used the particulates in the fuel will damage the pump and cause premature failure. Kohler specs a 24 050 13-S1 (15 micron) to be used with the Delphi EFI system, the older Bosch EFI spec'd a 24 050 03-S (8-10 micron) filter. The standard 25 050 22-S1 (51 micron) filter is only meant to be used on carburated engines. Just a thought, thanks for taking the time to make these videos they are throughly enjoyable.

There should be a smaller filter for an injected engine - normally there is an additional in the separator tank where the high pressure pump was - that while "sock" that looked like gauze - that was likely 5 microns. But it appeared either the bearings or brushed were bad in that original part.
