The World Cup is nearly over and we know our two finalists. Brent Pope and Sene Naoupu join Máire Treasa ní Dhubhghaill in the House of Rugby studio as we look back on the semi-finals.
We discuss the one-sidedness of the All-Blacks thumping of Argentina and how they look like they're playing with some anger.
They discuss South Africa and whether or not they can muster up one more big performance to bring home the title.
And we once again lament what might have been had Ireland performed better in the quarter-final.

What Ireland has experienced in this WC campaign is what the ABs experienced for the best part of 24 years. From 1987 until 2011, they were the best team/Top 3 in between WCs and would always fall short. If I had a dollar for every time I heard the comment "NZ are the greatest team in between World Cups" lol. It's not a matter of "if" Ireland will ever win a WC, its a matter of "when". People forget McCaw and DC failed at x2 WCs before winning their first. 🇳🇿

Regarding scrum interpretation, the ref will judge which team has momentum, and momentum is a massive factor in rugby or sport in general, so being a ref in the middle of the heat you need allow the him to use his discretion and interpret what he sees. The rules in rugby puts a big onus on the refs judging which team has the upperhand in certain areas of the game within the laws

NZ grew out of the pains of being number 1 at every world cup except this 1 and not winning and we always thought we would win, so being number 1 and winning everything in between world cups doesn't win you a cup no matter how deserving you think you are. The legacy of both these countries is why we share 6 world cups about to be 7 between us, the All Blacks will be hard to beat at our best the springbok only win world cups every 12 years lol will be a classic. Ireland will come back strong looking forward to seeing the lessons learnt at the next 6 nations.

The game was always going to turn with the SA bench being so influential. The two points scorers, Pollard & Snyman came off the bench, the scrum penalty that gave SA the match winning penalty was down to Ox Nche & Vincent Koch, bench players. England simply did not make enough of their dominance over that first 60 minutes in terns of scoring points & when they went behind and were forced to play rugby, they were time & again caught behind the gain line and eventually conceded the penalty. It was a decent gameplan from England, apart from not having an answer to the Springboks bench.

I agree with the Gumboot City commenter below. It's Ireland's first time knowing what it feels like to have the wieght of expectation upon you and to then get knocked out. It's a feeling NZ knows well. Does NZ hold grudges? That's kind of a weird concept. I think we do if some kind of injustice has occurred but if it's simply a loss things usually go down like the gentleman in the video said...We keep receipts.

Not sure how a team can expect or deserve to win a game based on their past performance, they can deserve to play in that specific match based on their prior performance, you deserve to win the game by winning that game. When you put your feet on the pitch no prior wins or history counts especially in a knockout game.

No side has ever won the WC whilst winning everything else in between. The 87 all blacks weren't the favorites pre world cup. The 2011 All Blacks lost the RC and lost 3 in a row to SA in 2010. The 2015 All Blacks lost the RC and had a record score loss against Aussie. 95 SA were pumped by everyone pre world cup etc etc. If you are winning constantly, you don't find out what your weaknesses are, and how to counter act them.
