I'm not just impressed that it starts but genuinely pleasantly surprised that it drives with the clutch, gearbox and brakes working. As you say, it wants to live. I think Ernie is a good name. Sounds friendly and begins with the same letter as Escort

My dad had a blue A reg 1.3 cvh, great vans, later on fitted 1.6 diesel and 5 speed gearbox

Great that it starts and moves! Can't wait to see how your Dad tackles the welding. I think thats why someone said call it "Pete C", check out the welding his does on "cortina city" haha.

Excellent good old cvh engine made me chuckle when you said check the back lights, they had problems when they were current with the bulb holders, I waiting to see your dad on the floor when the seat fell through, progress through and it runs

Sounds well,but I wouldn't risk just fitting a cambelt.do the full kit,I've seen the tensioners fall to bits on these back in the day,and as U know it's an interference engine.

The CVH was a good robust engine, the only real trouble they had was blocking up of the oil pick up pipe & valve stem seals

I had a MK3 xr3i in the 90s and my mate had a MK4 turbo and wat a car could not afford one I'm not a fan of the cab xr3i because the roofs used to leak more rust than a normal one but still nice

Is that a mk4 escort the blue one with the turbo vents wat is it xr3i whys that sat there not doing anything not finished before he spends 12 months welding them ford cvh easy to get running but normal rattles but everything moves your dad got a hording problem me myself only want one ford project myself but good luck to him

Yes, I am aware and so he is, he likes to collect cars and gets bored of them but doesn’t want to sell them. That is an XR3i cab, which he has already restored once and was on the road quite a while back, I love that car! He likes to move from car to car sometimes when working on them. Never mind will it start. Will the driver's seat fall through the rusty floorpan onto the road below?! Just joking, it's ok. While you're at it though, I would apply a ceramic sealant to the fuel cap, just to preserve the best quality component.

In answer to your question, both seat would defiantly fall through the lack of floor ha ha!
