Yes, at that time in the early 60s, only 1/4 to 1/3rd of Americans were fully corrupt. Today 3/5th of all Americans are fully corrupt and Reprobate. Witchcraft is the fastest growing religion. There is chasm the size of the Grand Canyon between America of 60 years ago and what passes for America today.

Shatner is one of those actors who can be both convincing as the character he plays and yet be himself at the same time, because his voice, manner of speaking and personality are distinctive.

Everyone expected me to become an attorney, partly because of my interest in shows like The Defenders. This was quality television; the writing, acting and direction. E.G. Marshall is mostly forgotten, but he was a good lead for this kind of story. Thank you for resurrecting these! Let me pull this one out from Wikipedia: "In particular, religions such as Judaism, Islam and the Baháʼí Faith teach the need for revealed positive law for both state and society, whereas other religions such as Christianity generally reject the idea that this is necessary or desirable, and instead emphasise the eternal moral precepts of divine law over the civil, ceremonial or judicial aspects, which may have been annulled as in theologies of grace over law." The law is not a matter of Faith, it is a matter of gathering facts and delivering these facts to a Judge or common people. So, save your Halleluja, brother.

The man he met was named Scotty, they became friends. Later Scotty invited him on board his ship. He replied that he has the right to tell his boss that he couldn’t take on the case because of his personal convictions. So they do think about the merits of each case. What a quality show The Defenders was. TV programming was loaded in those days with great morality plays. Some like this were set in the courtroom, others like Bonanza and The Virginian set in the West, still others like the Twilight Zone set in a place of imagination. How many prime time programs do this today? Sadly

What about 'mental' shape? That is part & parcel of being a Human being, is it not? He is a vegetarian, to start with the physical, but the mental aspect has been revealed on 60 minutes that he has disturbing issues that have to do with loneliness and he lives in fear of death; that doesn't sound like he is in good shape at all.

I’d never seen The Defenders before watching several episodes recently on KZfaq. It seems almost like British television in the way it relies on good writing and acting to explore human issues. As the 1960s progressed, we had less and less of this kind of quality television in the US. It’s kind of refreshing to see this kind of idealism in our entertainment history, since it’s hardly what we’re known for in our TV drama.

The Defenders was deemed by CBS as too left wing. In 1965 it was scheduled to a later time and was shortly canned by CBS.

👍👌👏 Pretty heavy stuff. Nothing has changed, on the contrary. Greed for money and power is ruling and ruining our planet. Because for those already extremely rich and extremely powerful big scrupulous industries/companies it's still mote important than our environment. Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing this old movie. Best regards, luck and health in particular.

"Give us all what the law demands, and the jails will be overflowing with GOOD PEOPLE" aka, exactly what we have now in the USA, with DA's strictly tasked with racking up convictions, blackmailing defendants to the tune of a 97% plea bargain rate in order to secure these convictions. Nice monologue about how the ideal used to be sold to us. These days the DA shows are proud of convicting innocent people. I am most proud of the DA's of today, because a sense of duty and dedication to your job can't be higher than that of someone who is willing to send innocent people to their deaths for the sake of this job dedication. Amazing human beings these modern DAs are, and the judges who preside over them as well, who routinely throw out evidence of innocence, which enables the DA's to succeed in their noble task. If only we could get other workers in other jobs to be that dedicated to their work, we'd really have something.
