Looking good Steve! It might not be a paid promotion for those tool holders, but we saw that episode of Shark Tank, and they were something I knew would be beneficial to the Aerospace world and hoped that they would get a deal. Happy to see them in work on your Plane.

After watching a few of your videos, I decided to get an RV-14 kit as well! I'm only a few hours in, but you were a big reason I chose the 14 over other models. I wish I had all the help you do. That would make things go a lot quicker.

Cool yeah - the Van’s Aircraft kits are impressively precise, but yeah, if you want it “Burfect” some custom work is required :)

Most kits require alot of "custom" parts. Some alot less. But Vans, Zenith, and others are almost completely just assembly.

I see Mike Patey building parts from scratch and making it look easy. I see these smart, experienced, capable guys working hard to build a pre-fab plane. I'm afraid if I made an RV it would take me 20 years!

I really enjoy your content, and you have a great attitude that's missing in a lot of the flight channels. There's an arrogance in a lot of the pilots that makes it hard to take large doses of their content. I'm not a pilot, but love the planes and most of the folks who fly them. Cheers.

I was fortunate enough to be staying close to Ardmore airfield in 2016 when the 2nd Mosquito they restored there did it's test flights. An Impressive sight. Nice job on the build.

Great to see the progress and to see y'all working on the plane! I'd really like to hear more about all the details and customizations y'all add as you progress - like lights or your panel or the interior - just to see what you went with and to hear why you chose those vendors/options, since you've probably gotten great suggestions from others

Absolutely wonderful to have all the help and experience to tackle such a big project. To me it would be hard not to wander around and check out all other cool stuff constantly at that hangar, hard to concentrate to get any work done.

Great video! Two things I know something about. First, Grypmat, I bought the set they sent you at Oshkosh last summer based on the recommendation of my cousin, a professional auto mechanic and aircraft owner. Didn’t have them in time for my annual but I foresee them being very handy! Second, a 6-32 tap, as a lifelong modeler I’ve tapped many holes that size. You should mention how fragile taps that small are, I always kept at least one spare in the drawer and two for 4-40! Love following your build, keep the updates coming!

I work full time on hawks and our supply just got us those grip mats and it’s been so much better then our magnet tray. I don’t lose sockets to the magnets

A spiral flute tap would have helped with the canopy because they send the swarf back towards the surface.Nice job though......................

It's great to watch this build; I appreciate the time you're putting in to the videos. Question - Would you also need drainage holes in other low points, like the bottom of the rudder? I had never considered this before but could see how accumulated water would impact weight distribution (or maybe it's negligible).

Is that Gray interior paint your spraying in the cabin a chromate ? .... I've torn a few things aluminum apart that had no green chromate applied and the corrosion was bad. Looks like a fun Winter build ( better than running a snow blower for sure ).......... a small Question...... is the canopy Lexan or Plexi......... I was a witness to a small plane crash at our airport and the Plexi-Glass window looked like it exploded and I understand LEXAN does not do that. Just a ton of Questions from my Headquarters here on the Pacific West Coast , If I were closer I'd love to help....Looks like a great bunch of plane folks ( lol) .

Thanks for the help with that! I find titles and thumbnails the hardest part of being a "KZfaq Content Creator"! I have total confidence in my ability to tell an engaging story, but if I can't get the click, none of that matters... and the algorithm mostly looks at CTR (click through rate) when deciding how widely to share and suggest a video, so the title and thumbnail are critically important parts of this process... When I made those two thumbnail choices they seemed equally good to me, but thousands of people voted on that poll in the story and the results favoured this at 80% VS 20% for the other! I am so glad I was able to get help from a big sample size before committing blindly :)

I couldn't tell but it had the basic outline of an OWL, which surprised the daylights out of me, as I've always though a Carbon Fiber OWL, full or 3/4 scale would make a heck of an Air Racer! steve, is there any reason Not to use your drill to tap the multiple holes in the canopy mounting? Seems to take an awful lot of time to hand tap each one.

What plane is in front of yours being built?. It is a greenish-gray color, with the yellow, and black stripes on the vertical stabilizer.

Considering the capabilities I am surprised that there are not any options for deice and anti ice equipment. I primarily fly in the mountains of the Southwest USA and ice is a consideration for 8 months of the year. More if I fly in the flight levels. If I ever build my own plane it will need a TKS system that would let me fly into known icing. Are you considering any anti ice equipment? I rarely hear any builders talk about it.

Yeah, I don't think it's "a thing" for these little planes... I'd love to hear if there are options, but I suspect deice and anti ice equipment is either too complex, or too heavy, or both, for this application...

Wondering if the grey color paint is zinc chromate? I have only seen it in green and yellowish color.

I am not sure about the specs of the grey paint - I was out of the country at the time, so I just selected the colour remotely, and the guys got it - but I am pretty sure the underlying parts were already primed as it is a quick build fuselage.

It will be assembled. It is mid-restoration. It will not fly however all 4 engines will run and it will be able to taxi.

@@thehoeser thats great to hear. im not sad it wont be flying. after all there are not a lot of lancasters left in the world and i think it would be a shame if it were to be destroyed in an accident. but it being able to taxi under own power is propably going to make it easier to move around the airfield if there ever is a need for re arranging the planes

Looks great , but can 't you drill a few holes first and then tap them insted one hole at the time ?

I believe the reason you do one at at time is to be sure they are perfectly aligned; so, we have the previously done one screwed in, and the next one waiting to be done still locked down with a cleco, so at any given time, only one hole is not connected.

you really want to have precision there.. with a countersunk screw you align the clamped part (here the acylic canopy) to the thread if now two holes are not perfectly aligned you create stress which can lead to a crack.. and this is the very last thing you want with such a canopy!

Does Canada follow the same 51% rule as we do here with kit builds? Noticed how many people are working on this project and wondered if that will be an issue on this project.

In the USA, an Experimental Amateur Built airplane (EAB) has to be 51% built by one or more amateur builders. So a group can certainly build a plane together, it actually happens often. Only one person can apply for the FAA repairman's certificate for a US-based airplane after it's done. But there's no limit to the number of builders that can participate.

Life of Flying no you don’t have to but it makes sense for a lot of builders... I ordered the tail kit to see if I like to work with solid rivets etc.. meanwhile I was saving for the wing kit.. during wing building I‘ve saved money for the fuselage kit while saving for the finishing kit...

I think that if you purchase the kit complete you get a discount. Like a lot of things buying piece by piece costs more. Reason why? Because all the extra handling. Every time someone touches a part your adding handling charges to the finished price.

Have built 3 Experimental Amateur Built airplanes - when inspected by the FAA, they were totally complete and ready to fly. No precover inspection - what is that?

Pre-cover inspections are a requirement in Canada (not in US).

Haha - that's not really a fair comparison :P We also have a salvaged Tiger Moth project on that go that is probably going less smoothly than his Fokker build.
