I head out on a day trip in the backcountry, and things don't go as planned.
In this video, I get back out into the Chilcotin backcountry with the plans of doing a short and simple day trip, but things immediately go wrong as the crack that had been forming in my axe's handle finally gives. Follow along with me as I deal with the real-life situation of losing my most important tool, and how I continue my day in the bush. Camp building, axe handle mending, knot work, flint and steel fire, bush cooking, and more - all in the exceedingly stunning Chilcotin backcountry of western Canada.
Enjoy the video, everyone!

Been a while fella, love the video. Your channel is fantastic, as it is relative to where I live with all of the beauty and challenges. I love the British bushcrafters, but a Honey Badger seems to be their biggest threat. Cooking food in bear country is a different discipline. Cheers mate.
@wituikbws
@wituikbws Жыл бұрын
A discipline I neglect to follow 😆 I do absolutely nothing but have a rifle and a dog around to deal with the threat of bears, and with all the raw meat I have at my camps, I am yet to be visited by a bear believe it or not. I did have a cougar come by my camp last trip though, which is worse in my opinion haha

Couldn't agree more. Pioneers opened up an entire continent using gear like that. I think that vouches for a lot more than a few Amazon and KZfaq reviews on a made in China "upgrade" over the original designs; for example, Fiskars axes 🤮😆

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND MARIE! I DIDN'T KNOW YOU 2 WERE MARRIED! I NOTICED YOUR RING! PRAY ALL IS WELL!
@wituikbws
@wituikbws 3 жыл бұрын
Happy new year! The ring has a bit of a sad story behind it unfortunately. Marie and I live in different countries as you may know (she’s American, I’m Canadian), so it leaves us in a logistically challenging situation. We both wear the ring to always remind us of each other while we are apart, which is sadly more often than we are together over the years. The only finger the ring fits on happens to be that one, but I am more than happy to have people assume I’m married to her :)
