In this video, I get out into the local Chilcotin backcountry for a solo overnight camping trip. This time I shovel out over two feet of wet snow and set up a shelter using local materials and my handmade oilcloth tarp, build a thick spruce bough bed to keep me off the cold ground, collect wood with my axe and build fire using my ferro-rod with slough grass, melt snow with an improvised pot hanger and boil up some pine tea and cowboy coffee, cook myself a well seasoned moose steak medium rare, and a lot more including use of my old CNR lantern for the first time in over two years - all in the snowed-in Chilcotin backcountry of British Columbia, Canada.
Enjoy the new video and keep an eye out for more content coming soon.

Just wondering if you are planning on finishing your new bushcraft shelter Camp Deadhorse?
@wituikbws
@wituikbws Жыл бұрын
Possibly! As I've been focusing on other things, I've found much better and more remote areas to build in like the area in this video for example; areas with grass for horse feed, creeks and rivers for water, more materials to build with, better to hunt, etc. The area I chose to build in for Camp Deadhorse was in a lot of ways terrible. It has no feed for horses, no creeks or rivers for water, not very remote, and has no where to hunt aside from grouse if I'm lucky. If I end up scrapping the project, I can assure you that what I do next will be a LOT better and more practical for backcountry life. Sorry for the late reply!

@@wituikbws have something similar with a David bowie design as I was younger then! Fordged from steel taken from the twin towers when they fell. They are a matching handmade pair. The handles made of ivory from walrus tusk sold to me by natives inlaid with gold full tang much like yours. I have handles made from the same for my colt revolver I carry. The metal was sent to Japan to a sword Smith who made it into demasisk specially hand made.

Hey are you a fan of tin pants? What kind do you prefer when you go out to the wilderness
@wituikbws
@wituikbws Жыл бұрын
I am! I make my own following @thelonewoodman's recipe. The pair in this video are old duck canvas Carhartt pants I double tinned (inside and out). If you make your own, make sure the pants are 100% canvas, not that stretch canvas stuff. I tried it on a pair that had 1% stretch, and it doesn't work. The stretch makes the wax flake and wear off almost immediately. Thanks for the comment!

@@wituikbws thank you Mr! I am heading for Alaska heading for a ruff part of the country. I notice you usually carry a lever action and a single shot shotgun do you carry revolver or another type of handgun and what caliber is your lever actio? I carry a 45/70. Should do a night time with the stars out alot of folks forget the quiet out there under the stars! Thank you for these videos. What made me realize the missing in my heart is from. Lived in the wilderness for many years of my life. I left due to loneliness. So I found a woman married kids the whole 9 yards. I stayed in the city as long as I can. Now I'm going home back to the mountains where I belong
@wituikbws
@wituikbws Жыл бұрын
The rifle I carry is in .45-70 as well, just a normal Marlin 1895 that is half falling apart (hence the tape), and the shotguns I carry are a .410 gauge and a .12 gauge, both generic single shots. I'd love to carry a revolver, specifically either a Colt SAA or a Smith and Wesson Model 3, but since the gun laws in this country are terrible, the most I can carry is either a rifle or a shotgun. I am able to carry and use antique firearms built before 1898 in specific calibres, like a Colt SAA in .41 Colt for example, and they aren't even considered firearms in Canada so they can be bought and used even without a license, but the price of them is crazy; sometimes upwards of 7k for a functioning/safe revolver. Would be underpowered sure, but I still figure it's better than nothing since I hate bear spray and am almost always without my rifle while filming moving my camera around, but it'll be awhile before I can justify buying one 😆 I'm glad to hear you enjoy these videos and that you're getting back into it. Let me know how it goes up north when ya get there! Good luck!!
@Jeff-hp3vn
@Jeff-hp3vn Жыл бұрын
@@wituikbws hey I have a colt in that caliber! Question can it be a reproduction of he exact model of a 1898 pistol? I feel a man should never be told what he can own or what property he can carry on his person! What a tragedy. As American I'm not familiar with Canadian gun laws
