The idea is that you make the witnesses uncomfortable, so that they slip up, then you catch them there and turn them nervous until they seem unreliable. He also just wastes time so that this case goes on as long as possible, because then he can use the time to hammer in the same ideas over and over again until the jury can only think of those allegations.
