They don't care about being coherent in their arguments or having any kind of intellectual or moral integrity AT ALL

I don't think her argument is that incoherent. It's an awful position but not illogical to what people like her believe. She doesn't like a female character who doesn't realize her own beauty, because if the character doesn't know, she can't weaponize that beauty against men. She likes a beautiful untoucheable deity because she wants beauty to be worshipped and men to be reduced to supplicants. It's all about power as per usual.

The wheelchair bound god actually makes sense, it's Hephaestus who had a bum leg from being cast off Olympus. I don't know why they chose to make him fat though, he's still chiseled (pun intended) in all of his other depictions as far as I'm aware.

Cos of realism. A real blacksmith wouldn't be ripped. A smith god would look like a bulky strongman, like Eddie Hall. The average strongman weights between 140 and 180 kilos. They are massive fellas, many of them having big bellies.
@InDeathWeLove
@InDeathWeLove 3 ай бұрын
@@sajisama24 Most blacksmiths don't look like bulky strongmen either. You need to actually still be quite dextrous as a blacksmith. They might be slightly more muscular than an average person in their arms and back, but they definitely wouldn't be fat nor follow the strongman body type. These are gods though. Realism is pretty much out the window anyway so even if I grant you the strongman body anyway why be "realistic" about their belly, while excusing all the other lack of realism because they're gods?
@sajisama24
@sajisama24 3 ай бұрын
@@InDeathWeLove Ohh, no, the belly is not necessarily for realism. It's just cos most people are not actually offended at the sight of big bellies. It's kinda cool, and it was cool before the whole culture war BS. Big fat boys where beloved, Shrek, Santa, The Dragon Warrior... the list goes on. But something changed. Thor is a fat dude in God of War but he is a badass, however, him being fat was an outrage among certain gamers. The kind of gamers who think Gamergate is a good thing and the wokes are destroying our games. Simply put, a fat god is fun and good character design, but we gotta be angry, ugghhh, those woke game devs with their blue hairs, ughh I'm so angry at everything UGH! I'm so angry! Even though that means the relationship fell apart from either both or one of them. The kids life will be harder. In Bayo's case. Was the man killed by a demon? That would be horrific for the child. You are definitely trying to harass me!" and even if what people find sexy is subjective, it´s pretty much the same concept as what people find more appealing and/or compelling in a story, it might be subjective, but still there´s a reason why things like The Hero´s Journey work so well, or why flawed characters dealing with all sorts of struggles they need to overcome are so universally appealing when done well. Look at Frodo and Sam, Boromir, Theoden or Eowyn, you´ll have a hard time finding someone who doesn´t like them, you´ll have a hard time finding someone who doesn´t like Neo´s journey in the first Matrix movie, and you´ll have a hard time finding someone who doesn´t like OT Luke Skywalker. It is what it is, and trying to subjectivize the matter using cheap relativism might work with people as dumb as the person writing the article, but the argument it´s trying to make is easily refutable, just as trying to draw a false equivalence is, like so "not overly aware/confident in her sexiness = Bland personality, object of desire", my god, go back to high school and start over from there.

They deliberately disabled it after the fact. It can be renabled with just a few kbs of menu mods at risk of losing MP access). The game itself looks great, it does a great job of keeping everything that made Hades fun to play and original along with keeping the art style while also improving things in a way only a true sequel can do… The issue is replacing the main character is no longer original nor is it enlightening… it’s become the norm. You can expect modern AAA games to have a bland narrative story with a Mary Sue that saves the world. Example: the first game was all about Zag escaping and attempting to join his extended family while also discovering his mothers existence. What begins as a selfish story quickly becomes intriguing and then humbling. This sequel… the whole world is in jeopardy, the original main character is sidelined, the *NEW* protagonist is a strong independent woman that has no ties to the original story, the plot is designed so she has to save everything all by herself…

Thinking on the God you are talking about who Hades team made Fat, Ugly, an Amputee, and Wheelchair Bound. It sounds like Hephaestus, God of the Blacksmiths, Fire, Craftsman, etc. And honestly he is depicted as the "black sheep" of the Gods and is a bit more deformed and ugly, but still even with Hades representation it seems over the top. Keep some of the less traditionally attractive traits out to keep that "black sheep part," give maybe some burns on the arm and the Amputee part could actually be cool if they actually reason it as him actually creating it himself and being proud of his creation. But they definitely went too far on the "representation." I almost think if they did those parts I mentioned it would've tied him in rather well to his practice and trade. (Basically in short, he doesn't have to be a "man's man" but have him still have traits like stronger arms. And if his amputation was actually explained as his own creation and Hephaestus expressing being proud of his own work if Zagreus or whoever the new protag asks about it. It's suit his role as a God and still feel like an empowering bit of representation and character instead of just token additions)

I have to call this out as an overreaction. Sure, Aphrodite got a bit of a strong jawline, but so does plenty of women. Hell, i'm scandinavian, it's particularly common here. She still has the classical feminine features. High cheekbones, full lips, good curves, etc. As for Hephaestus, according to mythology he was a cripple, and did ride a wheeled chair. There is an Ambrose of it in a berlin museum from 525 BC. Second off, look at the mans proportions. He's not obese, he's a strongman who's sitting down. The guy probably doesn't do a lot of cardio, but look at the size of his arms. This is the same mistake people made with Thor from Ragnarok. Sure, he's on the heavier side, but not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. As for the third character, that's Nemesis. RETRIBUTION INCARNATE, you'd expect her to look like she could fold you in half, and once again, she still has plenty of feminine features, looking at her face. Now, i don't know what supposed consulting firms worked with the Hades devs (i haven't been able to find anything on that) but until there's actual evidence of wokeness, i'm going to write this off as hysteria. I'm not saying i don't understand why the hysteria is happening, but it still looks like hysteria.

VINDICATION! Thank you Shad for saying "masculine jaw" So many have been trying to make the case that this IS a traditionally attractive female, and there is absolutely nothing androgynous about her. Like all they do is look at her chest and say, "looks feminine to me!" How do you miss that jawline? HOW? It sticks out like the Rock of Gibraltar! It's like they heard SBI lady use the words "a little androgynous" to describe her and went out of their way to ignore certain aspects of what those words actually imply just to disagree with the wokes. No, in this case they are correct. That character design contains androgynous elements. TAKE IT FROM SOMEONE WHO ENJOYS A BIT OF ANDROGYNY.
@mattthebeast3908
@mattthebeast3908 3 ай бұрын
I will note that there was a slightly confusing tweet/community note combo where the tweet was saying that Aphrodite looking androgynous was how she always was because she's the goddess of "love" meaning both sexes attractive features in one and the community note points out that no, Aphrodite is usually/traditionally depicted as a very feminine beauty. The confusion comes in because from a cursory glance it looks like the community note is disagreeing about the Hades 2 depiction being androgynous when it's actually pointing out that it is an out-of-place design.

His story is that he was so ugly (or because he was crippled, or because he c--kblocked Zeus... there are multiple versions of basically every god's story) that he was literally flung off Olympus at birth. His legs were destroyed when he landed. He goes on to live in a volcano (his Roman counterpart is Vulcanus/Vulcan, so volcanos are named for him, as are the Vulcans from Star Trek) and is the god of fire and the forge. The blows of his hammer as he smiths are said to cause earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Him having the body of a power-lifter and being crippled actually makes a lot of sense.

I don't know why Supergiant would go with consulting companies. They always had a sort of progressive writing team, but it was actually good. Before Hades, their games were more narrative-heavy: - Bastion was dealing with prejudice, xenophobia, and the inability to forgive. And they managed to do it without really taking sides in the ideological conflict by the antagonized Ura being a lot more xenophobic and warmongering than the Caelondians, even though the latter was so scarred by their war, they turned into genocidal monsters. - Transistor dealt with the ideas of misguided utopianism, ruining the world while trying to better it, and had an overarching theme of people trying (and failing) to deal with loss. - Pyre is a game entirely built around the concept of penance and redemption. Being the most narrative-heavy among Supergiant games, it can be a letdown for the fans of the usual action, but it's a grand story (and actually diverse in every sense of the word). As someone who enjoyed their games plenty, I really did not like the direction the studio took after Hades. They were known for always doing something different. And now they don't. They go for the safe bet of Hades 2, even though Hades is literally their least interesting game. I mean, it does have the most refined gameplay, but their true genius was in writing (and musical composition). I always looked at Supergiant as a studio that can integrate progressive ideas into games sensibly and organically. They gave the reality of it without lecturing or sugarcoating, never letting it slip into activism. And I would not go into picking apart their artworks that way. They have a distinct visual style. So you should at least contrast whatever you want to show with previous works (e.g from Transistor).
