That 'Father bonus' is apparently going strong in the Military. Friend of mine talked about how his father received promotions and bonuses at a greater rate, after each child. The 'mother penalty' is definitely strong in the Military: My own mother resigned her commission after she got pregnant....

The way THIS fatherhood bonus was calculated is a lie. The clip compared fathers who have wives doing most of the childcare to those wives. If instead, you compared fathers who do most of the childcare to women who do most of the childcare, you find the bonus goes to mothers.

@@theBear89451 , Dude, I raised my 3rd child as a single man since she was 4 years old. Never saw her mother again. If, and when, the % of Fathers raising children becomes equal to mothers , that's when your argument might make more sense. But, still not true. The fact is, businesses don't want anyone's stupid problems to affect them. So, they will treat anyone (who has to take it) like shit if they can. Are you the "house husband"? If yes, good for you, if that's what works for you and your partner.
@Buttlather

@Zuma Zuma You're missing the point. If you take a group of mothers who are the primary care givers, and decreased their job hours, of course they're going to make less than a group of fathers that often times increase their hours. Stay at home dads do not get a "father bonus." I get paid a lot more than my wife (a stay at home mom), but half of my income is legally hers. That's kind of relevant. This "bonus and punishment" is just the product of the division of labor. In toality, women do not have less money than men as a group.

I'm a veteran and it is very true. When active duty, every time I went in for a physical or other appointment, they drew blood and took a urine sample to check to see if I was pregnant. They do this with every female in the military, it's why our medical records are so much thicker than the mens' when we complete our service. If the pregnancy test comes back positive, they "offer" us an "opportunity" to be discharged. They can't blatantly kick a woman out, but it's clear that they want to nudge us out. And promotions do seem to come faster for men who have a lot of children. There are a small few women who give us all a bad name though. There was this one woman that would get pregnant every single time she would get deployment orders. A woman can't deploy while she's pregnant, obviously, so she was never deployed. She had so many kids that she ran out of ideas for names and actually named them after paint colors. smdh She gives all women a bad name. Sadly women like myself who don't have kids, and don't want kids, are called even worse.

When I’d say “stay-at-home-dad” people would say, “That’s great! When are you getting a JOB?” I interpret it to say “all men...”, as in Mankind... Man an woman are created differently but they are equal man does is not more valiable than woman, neither woman than man. However, man is made for physical demanding or mental demanding jobs. Woman is of great value raising the kids and keeping the house because by doing so she is taking care of herself and her emotional cycles and the period. Woman can work they are higly valuable in jobs were intelligence in key to success, because woman learn faster than man. But putting woman to earn same as man in all occupations is unfair. Allowing woman to earn same as man will have iether two of these effects. 1. She will want to work and hire another person to care for the kids (parenting will be hired) 2. Woman will not gonna feel the need to bring kids to the world because in her mind will be children, house and cooking or no kids and more money and success. This two things destroy countries.. One kids will not be properly raised, or kids will resent mom and dad for lack of time like it happens right now in the U.S. Second woman will just be dissecourage to have kids, maybe 1 or 2 will be more than fine for her , because she want money and success. Whats gonna happen. Little by little an ethnicity will dimish until is no more for other cultures are having more kids. All the taxes accumulated to achieve success will be share to people who did not earned. Becaus the state spend 12k to 18k a year just in education and people paying over 50k on the middle class a year will be paying for many others after her kids. Money is just a tool of trade. The sillyness of humans is to think money is everything. We and God are everything, we invent the money and all we see today. We should not be fighting over salary, but over making communication between us better.

@@alraei1070 look just reflect on what you just said. Both work and get a nanny. My friend you just said the reason american is suffering right now. Nanny is just a person employee to feed and put attentionnto the kid and even helping the kid with homework if that person have to. That is success??? Is that success?? I believe that is negligence for the love of money. Money that yeah is good but neither both will carry to their grave. What they could catry to the grave is the principles the rules, the discipline, the attention. and the enjoyment they had with their kids on earth. Perhaps you parents have dealt good with it, perhaps you don't even see the diifference because maybe you were raise with nanny. But that is not the case of the majority of the people. That is not the case 90% of the families out there. Out there children are abused by people who are supposed to care for them, sometimes the nanny have some peopel in the house parents dont know and are a danger to the kid. The reality is that many children are raised by nannies giving them some food and tons of tv and help on homework, which educate the kid to be irresponsible around the house. They don't learn to pick their shoes and put themin order And because of these thing kids learn to be lazy even for school leaving them is the trap of poverty if parents dont help or middle clas in caee his parents help him. Because he learned such attitudes of beign taking care of then he marry, then his kids will learn to be bad with him and end up broke. This is what I see more common than anything else. Right now schools, elementary schools are having trouble with children it is so much that the police have been called. I have seen a case a kid turned so bad at school police were called mom didn"t know what to do. And the system told her to bring him to see and test some drug to keep him in places and avoid anger. Why did this happened, the children mom always work and the kid was cared by an old lady that put him to watch tv and help him do homework. I have seen these things thats why I speak

Update/corrections: The women’s soccer team: the judge overruled them getting payed less. The ERA: Virginia ratified it and that being the last needed state, no one really knows what to do. Women’s voting: actually when the amendment was passed it was only for *white wealthy* women. Asian women had to wait until 1952. Native women had to wait until 1924 and African American women had to wait until 1665. *many other women could still not vote after the amendment was passed*

@@Antropovich well 3 states (although some of these were only temporarily done to encourage more women to move there), allowed women who owned land to vote. I'm not sure that's many. Some states allowed women who owned land to vote, but only on things like school boards and similar. I'd also like to add that although the suffrage movement allowed white women to vote once the 19th was passed, poverty still excluded some. We see the suffragettes as such icons, but the women allowed to vote were mostly white upper middle class women. Poverty has excluded many people, regardless of race from voting to this day. In any state today without mail-in ballots, it is still difficult for anyone who lives paycheck to paycheck to get enough time (even though it is a right to leave work - many companies still tell workers to not leave or to vote before or after shifts) and those in poverty still struggle to get to voting locations (with some states like Georgia, outright closing locations and thereby making it harder for already struggling communities). Unfortunately most people excluded still tend to be black and brown communities.

Just for clarification, the women’s soccer team were offered the same contract as the men’s team, but chose another option. They later regretted they choice, so they are suing to undo the choice they made themselves. They are an example of poor decision making rather than unfair treatment, and will only serve to harm the points that are being made in this video.

1:13 This is very odd to hear from her. I read that the Women's Cup lawsuit stemmed from negotiations they already agreed upon and wanted to change. In addition, the Women's Cup generates far less audience than the Men's Cup, and the two aren't even comparable. The Women's Cup may generate more profits than the Mens, but the Women’s team had actually earned more “on both a cumulative and an average per-game basis” than the men’s team during the years at issue in the lawsuit. Women were already earning more than Men, agreed on the terms, and wanted MORE money. Here's a quote from one article: "U.S. Soccer long argued that the claims of discrimination were unfair. It said, accurately, that the players had negotiated their own pay and working conditions in a series of collective bargaining agreements, and it even produced fact sheets arguing that the female players had actually earned more than the men in recent years." Why would any feminist argue in good faith about the wage gap and wage discrimination for women using an example of Women already negotiating their entire contracts and still being paid more than men? I'm just so confused to why this example was used in the video.

Wage gape simply ain't real. Everyone gets paid for the work and results they produce. If you are really that good, you be getting paid satisfactorily to avoid getting pouched by other companies. No boss in their right mind is going to pay a woman equally to a man (or a man equally to a woman) based on just their gender. the employee has to demonstrate the getting paid more money will either: - Promote greater work ethic or success beyond what is expected at the employee's current pay, or - Prevent the employee from getting poached (if he/she is a high value staff member).

@Zuma Zuma That's an average, and it includes women who stay home to raise their kids for several years. Of course they're going to be behind the curve on their career, or even pick more flexible, lower paying jobs. And there is nothing wrong with that! There are trade offs in life. I will make more money than my wife, but she will get more time wth our kids... oh, and is legally entitled to half my income. They always leave that part out.

For example, just this video, I analysed what she said for gender wage gap and majority is just her jumping to conclusions and making incorrect claims... I can't believe the daily show is not fact checking such a video and spreading misleading information. Someone should really make a video to debunk all the bullshit she said. I only watch the daily show if its said by Trevor Noah as what he says makes sense most of the time. I was a volunteer working to pass the ERA in Georgia in the seventies. I keep warning young women that there are still plenty of men who would like to go back to an era when women had few rights and no bodily autonomy, and there are plenty of women who imagine that men always behaved honorably towards women in those days. I heard every argument in the book about why women shouldn't be legally afforded equal rights and they all come down to the same thing: men don't want to lose their competitive edge. It saddens me immeasurably that almost fifty years later, we are going backward in regard to women's rights. Thanks for keeping the issue on our radar.

Monika Soffronow : It might be useful to quote a sentence from thi NYT article : « A deadline for three-quarters, or 38, of the 50 states to approve the E.R.A. expired in 1982, so the future of the measure is uncertain, and experts said the issue would likely be tied up in the courts and in the political sphere for years. » Besides, before the VA vote,5 States who had originally given their approval, rescinded it. This all means that the fate of the ERA amendment is far from settled, leaving the USA way behind many countries as regards gender equality. I think Desi made her point very clearly.

0:37 Shouldnt we be looking at money earned by men and women doing THE SAME JOBS instead of looking at the numbers generaly?
@syodrome
@syodrome 4 жыл бұрын
I think that it is interesting to look at the general stuff/stats too but fully agree with you. When a man and a woman (or people identifying in any other way) do the same job, they should be getting the same and if not then this difference is the one that should be getting publicity and obviously fixed). The other issue is women not getting promotions and when they do, it is usually later than men. This in itself is another massive issue. Even if the pay-gap is fixed, women would still be earning less because they are not getting into management roles as easily. There are exceptions but generally, most management boards do not have more than 20% representation of women. In my opinion, this is the root of the problem too. As for football (AKA Soccer): I think that the US women's team should be getting more than the men (Equal would also be unfair). They are more successful, have more fans, more income, and play more games. Also, some people are saying in Tennis men play more sets than women so why should they get the same since they don't play the same time - Even if we took this into account (I do not agree with it but just for argument's sake), the football game is 90 mins for both genders so there is no VALID argument here at all! In conclusion, I believe that player salaries should somehow be linked with the popularity and income of said sport. Equality would be that the players get the same percentage of the income. This solves the problem. So in countries where women's football is less popular and income is much lower, it would not be feasible to have equal pay as a flat number but it would be fair to get the same percentage of the income.

@syodrome
@syodrome 4 жыл бұрын
@@dracopalidine I appreciate what you are saying and if the "gap" in question were 2 or 3 %, then you would be right but in statistics where you leave out senior management, like for like, women still earn less. I don't have the numbers on hand but I've read about this a few months ago. Originally, I was of the same opinion as you but now I believe that it is not "just an average" and there is real discrimination. I also don't accept the easy excuse that women are paid less because they don't fight for more money as men do. Companies can actively do wage reviews on an annual basis to make sure that this doesn't happen but they chose not to. This choice is purposeful because they know full well that they won't decrease men's salaries but would need to pay women more... this is bad for companies on every level (but especially for their precious shareholders). I know someone who works in a University in Canada and they did a review of salaries (I think they do one every 4 years) and her salary was adjusted and was also paid retrospectively. Unfortunately, this (unfairness) happens and these reviews are needed. On the other hand, most sectors do not do this exercise EVER. Unfortunately, inequality exists.
@dracopalidine
@dracopalidine 4 жыл бұрын
@@syodrome I was pointing out the top earners because it's wholly a rich white women problem. It just doesn't exist for most Americans and if you just mean everyone on average then really we should be talking about the gap between say white women and Filipino women who have the highest pay gap ( earn the least on average). The problem is the basic premise of averaging out everyone in a particular group. I'm not talking about issues of less likely to get raises or promotions. The wage gap just doesn't take into account types of jobs worked, number of hours worked or benefits. Eg comparing a CEO to a wage earner is misleading at best There are a lot more men at the top than women. This is undeniable. (Honestly I don't care there's less billionaire women when I think it's unethical to make that much money anyway). So of course if you average all men versus all women it'll be higher. Men tend to work more hours too since women are statistically more likely to spend more time with family. It'd a bad premise if your not account that men work on average five more hours a week then women. Also the gap between the top earners and 99 percent of Americans is so skewed it's going to throw off any pattern you're trying to discern for almost the entire population.

I find it very disturbing, that, whenever these arguments are presented, the value of bonding with children is completely overlooked. A great portion of the gap is due to extra hours worked by men vs. higher rates of women who take time to care for children. When children get sick, it is primarily the mother who takes time off to nurse them to health. Very few men take paternity leave. The disparity between how much time women get to bond with their children vs. men has actual, albeit incalculable, value. What do you suppose it is worth to have children revere their mothers, and merely tolerate their fathers? No one should get paid less to do the same job. Equal performance should result in equal pay, promotion, and opportunity. But the part of the wage gap that is created by time at home with children, taking away from the overall lifetime earnings, is more than compensated by the increased child-parent bonding. When is the last time you saw anyone wave at a TV camera and say, “Hi dad?”

(more won matches, but a base pay was chosen that does not scale with the number of matches won) They were offered the exact same contract. The women negotiated a new contract that turned out to give them less money. That is not a gender issue, that is being extraordinarily bad at negotiating, then complaining about getting less money for not choose the offered contract (that the mens team chose). Hence the courts found it acceptable. Women do have an equal right to negotiate bad contracts. ..and legally do not have a leg to stand on for crying wage gap in this case. They chose the contract.

This is done on purpose to fuel propaganda and It doesn't mean that the gap doesn't exist, It means that It is much smaller when accounting for the hours worked and the profession (why there is a difference in those aspects is another question and doesn't imply injustice). It is simply not ok to lie (or deceive by omission) even if you believe your point of view is deemed as right and that's why I don't support the feminist movement.

Wonder how far those women would get if they had to compete with men? The US mens team would beat the women at least 5:0 even if they were completely drunk. It isn't fair to compare mens football/soccer to womens football/soccer. Men have to achieve a lot more to get anywhere compared to women, because there is ~5 times as many male soccer players than female. To become one of the best 20 or so is therefore much more difficult for men than women. It's equal pay for equal work.

I agree with the following: Women should be able to get government compensation for maternity leave. They should get paid the same for work that is exactly the same, often this isn't the case. It would be good for democracy if women were better represented. However being a guy isn't all upside either. The average live expectancy of a male in the US is 5 years shorter (76) then that of a woman (81). There are 10 times more men being locked up in prisons. It's expected that you work full-time and this results in spending a lot less time with your kids then your wife (on average). I hope my last point isn't taken the wrong way. It's really hard for a big group of men to get attention from women. It doesn't come close to sexual assault but it really hurts when you are rejected twice in a month, not one person is looking at you or paying attention to you when you walk down the street. It might be intimidating when a men whistles at you but know that it can also hurt when nobody is paying attention to you.

The thing is that many guys don't realize that feminists also fight for them. For a long time feminists have fought to take sexual assault of men more seriously and don't stereotype men the way they often are. Also, feminists want parents to be free to choose which parent works more and which one might stay more at home for themselves. This is also great for fathers who want to spend more time with their children but are afraif of social repercussions.

Tessa Grawe. Which feminist are fighting for men? Look at the punishments a female teacher gets molesting a student compared to a male teacher. Are feminist marching for equal jail sentencing between the genders (for all crime)? How about the family courts? Fathers are treated horribly in family court. If women in mass came out fighting for men....laws would be changed. Politicians want the female demographic. Feminist put words like deadbeat dad and toxic masculinity into our lexicon. They force things like the Duluth Model in the name of protecting women, conveniently not acknowledging that 40% of domestic violence is women against men. The most violent relationships? Lesbian women. If feminists wanted true equality, it would be here....like Bill Burr says, they look at it like a buffet, picking and choosing what they want.

sess and I want them to be 50% of all US military personnel. Wait a second that wouldn’t work would it. Why not? Oh right because of a small thing called biological differences between men and women that feminists conveniently ignore whenever it suits them. They need to accept that men and women are different, sure everyone should be treated the same in society, but this whole crazed obsession with wanting women to pursue meaningless life’s working behind a desk rather than raise a family with a husband that is the breadwinner is evil and sick. Family is the backbone of society and every single study shows that a non nuclear family is worse than a nuclear family in every category imaginable, from likelihood of the children going into a life of crime to them being poorer.
