Aventi is a crowd-funded luxury watch brand startup that’s redefining how quality watches get made and where. After raising 800K on IndieGogo, they’ve presented the world with “a supercar for your wrist” and they’re most known for their affordable tourbillons and their sapphire crystal watches. Often compared to Richard Mille, their intent is to produce watches that are just as exceptional and exclusive but without the hefty price tag. Their products range in price from 2K to 10K USD. For today’s episode of What’s On My Desk, I’ll be speaking with Hannu and Ryan from Aventi and they’ll be telling us more about what it’s been like starting the company, the types of responses they’ve been getting both from consumers and manufacturers and what they’re working on next.

Richard Mille has described their watches as racing machines for the wrist but Aventi is about to catch up. Aventi creates watches inspired by supercars and the brand has taken an incredible amount of inspiration from some of their favorite vehicles and from the automotive industry in general.
Their watch case aesthetic alone emphasizes lines, angles and sharp edges similar to the style seen on many supercars today. While their watches are manufactured in China, don’t be fooled and think that they’ve skimped on quality; they wouldn’t dare and please, let’s keep in mind that not every manufacturer is made equally. They teamed up with Hong Kong based PTS Resources and Hangzhou Watch company, who is not only ISO 9000 compliant but who already has 30 years in the industry. Not too shabby, if you ask me.

Great video! I definitely appreciated the open and honest conversation. Really glad to see from other comment responses that there may well be a smaller case size coming. The only digital watch i'd take is the Casio calculator watch. I know some Gshocks have hands, but whoop de doo, it's still a dated looking lump of plastic at the end of the day. Brings to mind kids at school in the 90's, very nickelodeon, very nerf or nothin'. Not a huge fan, though i understand the appeal, it's all subjective really.

I was all set to buy an Aventi. The thought of supporting an Aussie watch company that makes watches that appeal to me was too good to pass up & a patriotic duty with me being an Aussie myself. But then the Covid 19 thing happened & I lost my job mid March & haven’t worked a day since. Such is life!

Aventi Watch thanks a lot for the reply. Much appreciated.the one thing I take comfort in is I’m not alone in this & theres a lot of people in a lot worse situation I’ve found myself in. It’s not like the dreadful feeling of being sacked & seeing the world continue on as normal while Feeling like the biggest loser on earth. Thankfully I’ve only ever experienced that once because my employer went bust. Thanks for the invitation to book a chat. That’s mostly unheard of unless it’s companies like yours & Romans. These guys are creating a beautiful watch and obviously one that is catching the eyes of guys who are spending 100 of thousands of dollars each year! I seen the same great reviews from producer Michael’s KZfaq channel and everyone insists these are beautiful watches! I cannot wait to enjoy this watch myself in the future! I like the brand philosophy. The watch is huge yes, but the case is unique, it definitely makes a statement. All great ideas started with a small teams. Probably designs will keep getting better the cool thing about this collection is that they're the first editions.

Hey Roman, I'm a big fan of the brand! I'm always fighting the Aventi corner vs my WIS friends in the forums. I think what they are doing is really innovative but the purists just can't look past the HK movement without any real justification why not. They've made a titanium skeleton tourbillion for $2k ffs and what has been out of reach for most is now (almost) obtainable. It's crazy value, this should be the reason people buy this watch. Look past the noise and see it for what it is guys. Well done Aventi, you have my support, i'm a WIS and I love what you are doing. Go get em! Watch companies who do a lot of marketing get hated on by the WIS community. It's the same story with Hublot. Innovation is never truly appreciated in the moment.

stockholm publishings, spoken like a typically misinformed troll who has done zero research, take a bow my friend you nailed it. Aventi didn’t make the tourbillon, I don’t think anyone is claiming they did are they? Breguet developed the movement back in 1795, does that mean every other watch with a tourbillon has ‘stolen’ the Breguet design? What do you define as a ‘shit’ movement?The price alone I would assume. Take a closer look, the movement is actually pretty impressive. They have a modified ISO accredited 3450 skeletonised coaxial which has a smooth sweep of 28800 bph (8 beats per second). That’s the same as a Rolex & it also offers a 72 hour power reserve too. Rolex produced a new calibre in 2015 taking them from a 48hrs to 70hrs power reserve & everyone thinks it’s amazing. So what defines a ‘shit’ movement to you? I’m curious. Part of the reason they are able to bring this product to the market at this price point is because they don’t put a Swiss developed calibre inside. Something they are completely transparent about. So what does makes them innovative? Well it’s a combination of industry firsts. 1. Most of the cerakote colours offered are the first in the watch industry. 2. The case design is unique to the industry. 3. A Sapphire crystal case for 5k is groundbreaking in the industry. 4. They have a transparent approach which is different to most. Swiss Horology is shrouded in mystique and monopolised by a few major brands (Richemont, LVMH group, Swatch etc). Swatch group now will not offer their ETA movement to any company outside of their group. 5. They ask for feedback from the public & act accordingly (tourbillon text removed from case, gold hands on clear sapphire as 2 obviously examples). I’d say that’s pretty unique too. Put them all together and you have an pretty innovative offering. Stay safe brother & be well. Fun hiding behind a keyboard being a troll isn’t it?

Just seen Roman put it on. Oh deary me, it actually looks worse on. I am not a watch snob either. I have various prices ranges of watches from AP , Rolex , Omega, JLC, etc through to inexpensive Hamilton, Seiko, etc. I am not a 'hater' either. There are other watches I don't particularly like. Honesty is my policy. Even if these watches were Richard Mille , I wouldn't wear one. It is ridiculous to call someone a 'hater' purely because they don't like the look of your product. I don't hate anyone or anything.

stockholm publishings do you know that we regulate every single movement and have very strict QC on production (if any don’t meet standards they’re returned to our movement partner at their cost). Also do you know about dailywin watch company? As they produce hundreds of thousands of Swiss made watches each year that are actually made in China? There is a great deal more to the emotional and uninformed responses you post - if you don’t like how it looks that’s fine but our brand is a lot deeper than your watch purist anti Swiss sentiment. 😘

stockholm publishings we have a 1.5-2x margin. Business approach is completely lean (team works completely remote) and as a result we don’t need obscene margins like Swiss products (RM are said to have 14x margin). Regulated movements ensure highest accuracy. Does rolex make a completely sapphire crystal case? Rolex are charging thousands of dollars for steel! Have you seen any watch brands with complete sapphire case let alone blue sapphire? Hublot is around 80k and RM half a million or so... Do you know how many hours it takes to manually polish our complex case? Over 100 ours. I have been in contact with Swiss manufacturing partners and there is simply no way to produce what we’ve done for the price we are offering. Did you watch the whole video or was just triggered and decided to comment ? Because I talk about all of these aspects in the interview.

@I OFFER YOU THIS I still don't consider myself as a 'hater' purely because I dislike a certain type of watch. I think people throw out the word 'hater' too easily. I don't like the Aventi watches and wouldn't wear one if I was given it. Not sure what I would do with it , if it was a gift. I really dislike when the word 'hater' is thrown out at the normal people who just don't like something, and would not buy it. Having an opinion if put across politely is far from hate.

I am watch enthusiast and collector. I love all watches regardless of history, price and buy what I like. I like the concept and the materials used, but unfortunately I am not a lover of the look of the case. I hope in the future they produce another sapphire watch in another shaped case and I will be buying.

Saphire cases are cool and awesome, period. Just I hope they are going to make a smaller version! These ones are a bit bulky and non-refined to my opinion. I love the blue saphire one, its for sure a highly desirable watch for the collector as they are so rare and extremely expensive!

Great video and interview. It's great to watch the discussion on both sides of the fence. I for one am On the pro side. I happen to live in switzerland, and have a good collection of watches. Every damn corner has a watch shop and most look the friggin same. Bar a few brands none of the old school innovate or try something new. It wasn't so long ago that Jacob and Co was putting out watches people laughed at. Now look at them. The number one thing to remember is that something is worth what you're willing to pay for it. Tell someone who doesn't love watches you've dropped 10k on a watch and they'll call you nuts - no matter the brand. Aventi found a niche in the market and are doing a damn fine job of meeting that need. On top of that they are great blokes who listen to their customers.

I am full time ebay seller of any and everything that makes a profit. I have raised my feedback by treating the customer like I would like to be treated. I ship same business day and send a Message with Picture of the Package ready to ship after it is package. This lets the customer know I give a F--k and if it were to be dropped at wrong address they can describe the package each is custome with smiley face and First name on package.. I just ordered a watch I asked Heimdallr before I ordered are you shipping? As CNY was ending. They replied Yes. I ordered paid for express service and 4 days later still not shipped. Ridiculous.

Interesting for sure. A very VERY bold watch. I feel like at the $10k price point and that huge unique case shape you are making a statement with your watch. I’d be curious to know how many people are willing to make that $10k BOLD statement with an unknown brand with no recognition.

Hi There! Thanks for watching! You're right, the economic situation has been difficult for so many people. It's a hard time for everyone. We launched our brand right in the middle of the pandemic and right in the middle of the economic collapse. This was a decision we didn't take lightly and part of our reason for doing so was to prove that we can succeed in any financial climate and that our brand has longevity. @@AventiWatch I would caution you a bit about watch industry being hit hard. At least in the US the watch sales of the hot brands have been higher than ever and even though market prices took a bit of a hit in March they have since soared higher than pre-Covid. The real test for all watch makers will come when government assistance dries up and the real economic toll will reveal itself, for now there are more watch buyers than ever, thank god for the money printing western governments (sarcasm).

Like the founders, their drive! Unfortunately, their pieces look too big. I would go down in size and actually add curves. It’s probably cost effective to have a sharp case though....

Thanks Andres, completely understand that you'd like to see a smaller case size. That's something we had in mind when creating this larger statement piece: as Roman says, it fits well on his smaller wrist with it's curved lugs and contoured back. We're also currently working on piece in a smaller case size. Keep an eye on us if that sounds like something you'd be interested in! 🔥👀

I’m obsessed with the clear sapphire, my only concern is I would like one slightly smaller so i would hate to order one, get it in December and then in January they release one in my preferred size. Admittedly I’m new to the watch game but these guys really are level headed and humble and I hope to do business with them very soon.

Roman!!! I actually really appreciate the fact that you took time to give these guys some air time to explain their mission. To be honest this specific design isn’t to my personal taste but due to this video I am interested in continuing to watch this company grow and see how they evolve. I feel I understand where their heads are at now and it intrigues me. Who knows what will come in the future for these guys? We shall see and I’m anxious to see the evolution of Aventi. Maybe I’m just a fan of the underdog too ✊🏽

I feel the Aventi watch craze will go away as soon as the Richard Mille craze goes away. To be honest, it is a good idea, to have an "affordable" RM style watch with a sapphire case and a cool automotive look, but still it is too big and not my style at all.

I understand that having no boutiques or middle men keeps the cost down, but it would be nice to try these watches on first considering the large size. Last thing I would want to do is spend 10K on a watch and hate the fit on my wrist.

They sure got the right people pushing these watches. Of course they sent the watches to every popular watch KZfaqr to talk about or promote 🙄. The cheap tourbillon isn't anything new ERA being one Sea- Gull being another . And it probably the ugliest watch I've ever seen don't care what material it's made of . It's hard to rap my head around why the top watch KZfaq guys are even hyping them .

How else are we to get the brand out there? We send watches to anyone who asks and Roman requested them. AP Royal Oak was hated when launched and look at them now ;) It’s definitely not for everyone and that’s ok you don’t like the design. The fact is we are continuing to innovate and you’ll be seeing more of us 😆🙌🏽

But it's also my responsibility to be honest about my feelings about your brand and the KZfaqrs reputations that I follow. Yes I could be a YES 👍 man and go along with the group thinking of your watch . But to be 100% completely honest it's a [UGLY] watch. The case is nothing but oddly shaped and would look totally ridiculous on most wrists. Unique it is and attention you would get. But it's the movement even though it's a tourbillon and I happen to love them convincing me they're worth the price you're asking is a stretch. Yes the material are expensive to fabricate and make and probably justify some of the price. Like I said good luck you're not going to be able to sway my thinking towards the brand sorry. You over sold it for me .

I received my raw titanium version of the A-10 yesterday. The packaging was spot on. The build quality is spot on. The visual impact of the watch is quite stunning. I own several very nice watches as well as some relatively unknown start up watches. I was pleasantly surprised by the light weight of the watch. I am a very large human and this watch fits me perfectly. I went with the raw titanium look as I thought it would be more complimentary to my age and lifestyle. Also, being familiar with cerakote from my own manufacturing experience, I was hesitant to wear a watch with a coating that can chip or wear with time. I figured the titanium version would age more gracefully with honest wear and tear. I am testing out the power reserve capacity now. So far, it has kept very good time. The watch is a pleasure to observe and seeing the tourbillon at work is mesmerizing. Good job on the launch.

This is by far one of the best interviews with Aventi I've seen on a watch channel. I'm a huge fan of what Aventi have achieved to date. A note to the haters.... It's one thing to not like a product based on looks... that's understandable but to spew pure hatred or baseless insults is not only disingenuous its also childish and downright pathetic. Right now I can only dream about owning an Aventi watch and I would have anyone of them in a heartbeat. I can't wait to see how far Aventi can go in pushing the envelope when it comes to their brand...

I am sure you put a lot of effort and work into this project but not my cup tea, maybe Lambo driver type might like it, you are tying to create a cheap RM/Jacob which are not for me either - but I just bought a vintage Rootbeer - lovely Jubbly - I understand Roman investigating this as its all over the watch community anyway

We love RM, especially their commitment to material science however we don't want to be them. We respect our clients and want to build lasting relationships with everyone that is interested in our brand and in order to do that we have to be an open book. You can communicate with us directly, something that is difficult to do with RM. AS far as our designs go, you're right! We took inspiration from Lamborghini, I'm happy that you picked up on that. @@AventiWatch Something a little smaller and maybe a curve to make it hug the wrist more. Having said that, I am not a big fan of Richard Mille either , doesn't matter how much they are worth. I have a large wrist but I still think this watch just wears like a small plastic brick on your wrist. I get it is made from an expensive material but unfortunately the shape and how it sits on your wrist looks awkward, and a little bit like a toy. As I mentioned , I am not a fan of Richard Mille either, and they curve to make them fit better to your wrist.

I did enjoy this interview very much. Way less skeptical in the brand itself now, but.... I have seen some photos of the clear sapphire showing the details of the movement. Jagged edges, sloppy finishing, just not up to the standard of “quality at 100k for 10k” Was this something that may have happened with THAT specific watch, or is the quality of the finishing on both of the sapphire versions really 1/10th because you are paying 1/10th of the price? I love the innovation of this company. I’ve been collecting watches for 30 years and I’m excited to see a piece like this. The clear sapphire definitely has my attention. I also agree that a “hers” version as I can see ladies wanting this as well. I was looking back in the archives of the TimeZone website and was reading the comments on the RM models. There was a lot of negative comments about his pieces. Today people are getting second mortgages on houses to get his piece. Aventi is definitely in my future. Excellent video.

stockholm publishings the styling is innovative. Based on the watches I’ve owned in the past. And I’ve been collecting for 30 years. It’s plainly not an RM knockoff. To be honest it’s something that you haven’t seen and because it’s not a Swiss movement it gets discounted in the eyes of traditional collectors. The funny thing is that back in the 90’s we laughed at Jacob&Co but today he’s very sought after. But also let me say that the guys have only been around for a few months so let’s see where they go from here.

stockholm publishings I see you’re only looking at the sapphire models. Which I get their price point as sapphire is not a cheap material to work with. Originally when they launched the Blue model didn’t exist and the clear model was half the price. But let’s not forget they also have a titanium model that is only $2K. Very reasonable. As you mention yes Rolex is an icon in the industry I’ve owned many over the years and I currently own 3. But when I buy Rolex it’s not because I’m wow’ed with their new ideas. I buy them simply because I’m a collector and I know these pieces are value holders. However I’ve also purchased some UN pieces and some Panerai pieces that have lost value over the years. My point is I purchased them because I liked them. And that’s what collecting is all about. I’ve got a Patek Calatrava that literally never touches my wrist. The watch is too small and conservative for my current taste. My point is if one is a collector they collect. They embrace new things. Even if the brands is not well known. It’s a hobby. It’s funny I remember having this same conversation when the UN Freak was introduced. Conservative guys said no but the watch is till viable even to this day.

stockholm publishings my first Tourbillon was a Blancpain that I picked up back in the early 90’s it was what I thought to be very expensive priced around $30k but it was a thing. To see a sapphire crystal Tourbillon prices under $5k (as I’m a fan of the clear model) does my wallet great justice. But I get it. The watch is not for everyone. That’s why we have so many watch manufacturers. It’s all about choices and styles. Some like to go outside of the box and some like to stay inside. I like being outside the box simply because I own and have owned many conservative pieces. So something fun and new is definitely welcomed.

I will use an example of a you blow watch which is by the way very expensive as well not quite as expensive as Richard mille. I was in Atlantic City wearing a spirit of big bang with diamonds. Crowd gathered around me saying this guy's wearing a Richard mille I went along with the people are so stupid. Even a you blow watch is a good watch it's nothing wrong with it but this watch is better because it's lower in price yet. It catches attention. Yes it's not for everybody it's for guys with big wrists. It's also not a suit and tie watch. It's more of a sports watch. But I think they have a nice niche here.just goes to show all of these watches like Richard mille even you blow are just charging a boatload of money more than what the watch is actually worth

Good video. I think Roman was genuinely impressed by the watches. And as other people say he was impressed by the way you guys from Aventi are managing your brand. One problem I think the brand will face is that there will be a point where the price will be too high for people to buy the a-11 because of the movement in it. By no means I say that it’s a crappy movement. It looks astonishingly well cut and finished but when you pay over 10k for a watch most people want a movement that is widely recognized to be reliable and well made. It plays into the area where the Swiss have made their name. Switzerland worked hard to be recognized as the epicenter of watchmaking. Before the Swiss it was England, then France and now japan is a big contender with grand Seiko. In the future China can be in that game, too. And what Aventi is doing here contributes to that. Improving quality of Chinese and Hongkong made movements will ultimately improve the reputation of their watchmaking abilities, too. I am very interested to see how it will play out in the future.

The movement IS crap. Aventi have openly admitted where they get their movements from, it's a bog standard Chinese movement. They did not want to spend money on a Swiss movement. This is all information from Aventi themselves.

Rezwan you prove my point that reputation of Hongkong and Chinese made movements is very bad. Partially this is justified. Most movements are produced without enough quality control, testing and regulation. But Aventi also stated they have improved these issues with this particular movement. If that is truly the case, it could mean that this bad reputation is about to be challenged.

stockholm publishings I am not saying that the Swiss don’t deserve their reputation but there’s a lot of improvement in Chinese manufacturing in the last few years. The quality of what they can do if they really want to is very much underestimated by a lot of people.

stockholm publishings I said underestimated not understated. Also it’s the case what makes the sapphire watches expensive. This is without correlation to the movement. I also said in the first comment that it will be a problem for the brand to sell pieces with such high quality cases and even gemsetting and such while using this movement. Partially because people think it’s crap. It’s not. And partially because it doesn’t match the quality of the other materials used in this watch. But you cannot deny that if a brand like this becomes popular, the quality of Chinese movements could also be improved in the future. Maybe the next step would be that they develop a completely new caliber in collaboration with their supplier Hanghzhou? I don’t know, but it could be an interesting development and change the minds of people who just associate the word Chinese with the word cheap. It is changing already.

Also to be clear: I will do a review of the A-10 titanium when it arrives. I helped fund the project on indiegogo and do a completely unbiased review on it. If it’s not worth the money, I will say so. I own a lot of Swiss watches within the same price range and some way above it, too. I know a bit about watches and if it’s not up to the quality I expect for the money, I won’t say otherwise. Until you haven’t had this thing in your hands, it will be very hard to judge it.

I have two comments 1. Make the watch size more wearable, a 45-47mm would be more refined and but still can pop with that kind of design. I’d be more interested then... just look at Blancpain FF 45mm, AP 44mm, IWC Big Pilot 46mm, Pam 504, Big but not too outrageously make you like a clown with a loud clock bigger than your wrist 2. Yes it is cheap for what you are getting - despite HK/Chinese movement, but it is still 10K, and you still can get pre-owned Swiss watches for this kind of money, but once these Aventi go to the pre-owned market and we know how the market preserves the value then the game is on.

Hi Hanafi! Great comment! Lets go over a couple of things. 1. Awesome feedback. This is something we are working on for future releases. The IWC Big Pilot is a great reference for sizing, even though our pieces are sized two mm wider, the feel is comparable on the wrist due to the shape. (I love the Big Pilot by the way!) 2. There are many great options in this price range! We are finding that many of our clients already have established collections that include some vintage and modern swiss brands. They are interested in Avent because we are offering something different. We have massive respect for all watch brands and are collectors ourselves and wanted to offer something mechanically interesting at an achievable price. I have a Chinese tourbillon, + 5 sec. on the timegrapher, so good quality, and only $500. So while Chinese watches get a bad rep because of their fake watches, mainline Chinese watch companies are fine.

That's great to hear! Asian manufacturing isn't what it was ten years ago. In terms of precision manufacturing, most of the devices that these comments are typed on are Chinese made. It doesn't get any more precise than an iphone! Thanks for watching!

@@AventiWatch Depend on what you mean by "Chinese Made". Most of the chips were made by US design and made by machines that were invented, designed, etc by American companies. The Chinese are little more than an army of laborers. Very little actual design and inventing.... Very little creating going on in China.

While Tourbillon was invented by Abraham Louis Breguet, the the semi-flying tourbillon was invented by a Chinese watchmaker Kiu Tai-Yu. So, to imply that Chinese have little design and inventing is simply.... WRONG.

I completely disagree. I personally don't like the aesthetics, shape, form and how it wears. I really don't care where the movement was made, and if it were Swiss, I still wouldn't like this watch. It wears like a piece of LEGO on your wrist. Just my opinion. If it wasn't as blocky and curved to your wrist it could look and wear better. Just making a smaller version would not fix what I dislike about it too. It needs some work on the design. The guys behind Aventi quote supercars for inspiration, well using that I would suggest Pininfarina

Just like a Lamborghini or a Richard Mille, not everyone is going to enjoy the same things we do. The Pininfarina suggestion is a really interesting one, very cool brand with a long history that isn't so well known. Truly an incredible role model for design. I don't see a world in which they become desirable. The marketing they are doing works for normal goods but in this market it seems to attainable and not as desirable for this type of product.

Not to keen on that name for a watch company. They should have asked Hans Wilsdorf. 42 to 44 mmeter is my sweet spot for dial size so I can't wait until they have something that fits like that.

🤣Go big or go home! You're completely right, our watches are big! This was a considered design choice as our watches were made to make a statement. You would be surprised how comfortable they are, have a look at where the strap attaches to the case. The strap articulates without the being flared out by lugs, this allows the watch to fit smaller wrists well. Thanks for watching Don! Mitch - Aventi

I respect the brand for the working they are doing, I think it's a good strategy because I see this watches on every major channel and instagram pages but I it's not for me. I already think that the sapphire RMs are strange and with no taste, the Aventi it's worse. But I hope they grow and made other models with more attractive shapes.
