@@Childfree334 My father worked in CPS, I am retired military, have traveled all over the world, and try to keep up with economic trends and economic conferences. From what I have seen and experienced, society does not care much about families, men or women. Society sees women as baby makers and cheerleaders for supposed "great male leaders." And men are seen as disposable mules. They only want women to create more kids to keep society running, not to really help women in any meaningful way.

Ya exactly and if you ask a lot of women AND men why do you want kids or why did you have kids a lot of them only answer with "I dunno just felt like it/I just feel like it" whereas if you ask most people who are intentionally child free, they have at least 50 clear cut reasons ready to go rapid fire answer style with links to peer reviewed journal articles ready to send and an APA style citation page attached to their essay and pulling bullet point index cards out of their pocket or purse out if nowhere like they've just been waiting to give this oral presentation to the class like, "I wish a mutha f*cka would ask......"

No that is not it. Men do not want to be single that is true, but men want to control everything. Men are always seeking endless validation from women and if they can control you they can get that validation they are so desperately looking for. Men also want to be accepted by women, and if they can not get that acceptance naturally they will force you to give it to them. This is one of the causes of most of the debacles in the world.

My ex- fiance claimed he wanted kids and that he'd be "a great father," but he refused to pick up after the dog or clean out the litter box. He'd always say, "It grosses me out," to which I replied, "If you can't clean a litter box, what are you going to do when it's time to change a diaper?" He just STARED in response. Absolutely no answer at all. So glad I broke up with him, and SO glad to be 38 and childfree! 🥰🥰🥰

I would gladly wake up to my cat's contempt for me than a man's contempt for me. I would gladly take getting scratched by my cat than domestic violence from a man. I would gladly buy cat food and scoop litter every day over cooking and cleaning for a man who cheats on me and scrolls through Instagram infront of me. I would gladly wake up to my cat meowing and getting zooming at 3am and hissing at me when he's hungry or understimulated and needs to play when I'm try to work from home or study or read than listen to a man rage, scream, yell, and cuss at me. I would gladly take cuddles in bed from my warm cat at night and be itchy from his fur and accidentally smell his fishy stinky tuna cat breathe than be kept up all night by a smelly grown man who can't be bothered to brush his teeth or wash his starfish properly and snores louder than a freight train just to have a warm body to snuggle. I could go on.

My grandparents had 5 kids yet it was my mom, their only daughter that my grandma sent to college. Same grandmother told me to focus on my education. Modern women getting educated is the greatest homage to the women before us cause many of them couldn't. We do it for ourselves and THEM.

I agree with the woman in grey. When you bear children, you take care of them, teach them and guide them throughout their formative years. Once they turn 18 and they finish high school, they are legal adults and you let them go free to live independent lives. You don't have them take care of you when you're in your seniorhood years, that is selfish as hell. I don't want children either but if I did have them, I wouldn't put that burden on them.

It’s not a burden that family members care for each other, I don’t have that expectation of my children but two are already grown adults and they love to come home and love to call me to laugh and tell me about their lives. We also are kind and respectful to the generations above us in our family, I think my children would be devastated not to be involved in our lives forever. They are always telling us how much they love us, you don’t generally abandon some of the most important people in your life. People just seem so individualistic and like family, relationships and connection aren’t important when they are probably the greatest source of happiness for most people. I definitely wish my own mother was still around because she was funny, witty and had great advice and wisdom, she was a huge emotional support to us as much as we were to her. Why would you want it any different?

My grandma had to drop out of school in the eighth grade to get a job and help her family during the Great Depression. She was the oldest of five kids. When she got married at 18, she hoped to have a son. ONE son. After raising five daughters and four sons, she started to help raise her 42 grandkids. That was literally her entire 86 years on this planet. Raising her siblings, children, and grandkids. My husband and I decided to have one child pretty late in life (40 and 44) and we had a boy. We are very happy with our decision, but it also makes me happy to think that my grandma would be pleased with how I am living my live. That was a long story to say just that people who are saying we are insulting the women who came before us by not having kids (or delaying and limiting in my case) are wrong. We are living the lives they were denied.

My gen Xer parents fell into the scam of making babies without much extra money and here I am clawing my way to pay my own tuition, my dental, and my rent etc. Then I am their emotional tampon for their tantrums when struggling to make ends meet. They couldn’t afford to get my teeth fixed and alopecia from their own bad genetics so I am on my own to spend thousands of dollars. So yes, you made a good decision. I wish I was never born. No child deserves to inherit poverty and bad genetics and without generational wealth to look forward to.

Point to add, My own mother said that if she could do it all over she'd not have kids or get married. 4 kids with two husbands and divorced at 55. My mom is now 75, single for 20 years and is living her best life. My oldest sister is a dink and just flew to Paris. I'm 39, single and child free and have zero interest in changing that status. My two other sisters married and had kids and oh, boy, are they overwhelmed, overworked and treated like absolute shit by their husbands.

Ive had family members treat me like crap along with my dad doing it... I told my dad, i never wanted kids. He told me, he had 5 he didn't want all because my mom wanted kids. Neither one of my parents were really, good parents but my mom always encouraged my dreams while my dad has only crapped all over them. I ended up "compromising" with my dad a couple years ago and had a total of 0 kids (got sterilized and I'm a guy). Dont ever let anyone treat you like shit or tell you what you're going to do or have to do with your life. You'll end up miserable, i still live with him although I don't want to.

I grew up poor. I watched my single mother cook and clean and work and work and work, all for peanuts. I remember being a kid and thinking, "I don't want that." I don't want kids because I don't wanna put them through what I went through. I'm still poor and so, no, I wont have kids. I don't want them to go through what I went through. Just the other day I saw a tik tok story, a young kid asked his dad for money. The dad said "of course son, but why?" The son explained his best friend at school never had a good lunch. They had paid lunches/lunch was served at school, but his best friend's parents were so poor, they were behind on the lunch payments. Since they were behind in payments, the school couldn't give the boy a proper lunch. The school legally couldn't not give the kid any food, so they just gave him a plain sandwich everyday. No juice, no pizza, no fries, no cake. Nothing that the other kids got. He just got a plain sandwich for lunch everyday. So thats why he wanted money. So his friend could get a good lunch for once, like he did. The dad heard this and went to the school, the school said they couldn't do anything unless the lunch fees were paid. The dad was so angry hearing that. He paid for his son's bff's school lunch fees for that whole year, and the boy now gets food like everybody else. That's the type of poverty I grew up in, and nobody deserves that.

I’ll explain why: it’s because society told women they were “used goods” if they were single moms. Considering the divorce rate is so high, it then made sense to just never have kids. Then they realised they don’t need the man either.

You know what folks, up to 30 I thought for sure one day I have kids. But than in my friend group and surrounding people started having kids and what they told me behind closed doors made me realise i don't want them. I enjoy my niece, but hell no 24/7 you as a human are done. Life is over fulltime for the next 20 years, it takes a toll on your marriage and kids are the mirror if your marriage is solid or broken and remember the corporate world will neglect you and I'm talking not even careerwise, normal fulltime job with kids will be hard to find, the downside after divorce. Even with alimony you'll have the responsibility which of 2 parents at once. I like doing 24/7 what I want, making decisions just for me, my struggle only effects me and life for women is so diffrent now than 50 years ago. I never thought that the majority of mothers are unhappy behind close doors and I'm glad they were transparent with me. Who knows if they had kids if other mums told them the truth. So please all unhappy mums, you're welcome to speak open about motherhood, you might save other women and children who should have a mum whos happy being mum

Axiety and guilt are universal emotion. With kids all without, we feel them. It’s so important know acknowledge them the love we feel for our children is different than you feel for your boyfriend.

I've been set on never wanting kids since i was a child. I hate having a uterus, actually, because it reminds me that i was "made to carry children". I've been told by other women countless times that i'll change my mind when i get older, that they thought that way at my age, and that i'll never feel true unconditional love unless i have children. I asked my doctor about getting a partial hysterectomy in the future, and she said i shouldn't mutilate my body, and that it was a gift to be able to bear children. She said even women with pcos or endo aren't recommended to get a hystorectomy. I broke down sobbing after I left the appointment. It just really makes me depressed, and so often i wish i was born a man. People who say it's a woman's duty to have kids piss me off, so it's nice to see women like the one with 4 degrees sharing their childfree experiences.

everyone is different. im happily married and we have a baby. lol we love her ❤️ and she is what brings joy to my life and God. she is such a happy baby lol turned 1 in a half and its so good to come home to this munchkin. ❤️ waiting for mama to hold her haha. everyone is different it isnt all bad to have children. single motherhood nope.

That's wonderful. I wish every woman a joyful life. You're living the life that brings you joy. I'm also living the life that brings me joy. Single, childfree, traveling along the Nile River in a felucca, spending 4 days in a luxury hut in the Amazon Jungle, watching the sun rise at the Taj Mahal, hiking through Machu Picchu. I've been doing this for years. Now I'm 61, and still down right giddy. And a darn good auntie. 😊

I think its wonderful that you are happily married & a precious child, but life comes with no guarantees. Having kids is a 50/50 chance that you may raised that child on your own. Someone can walk out or die unexpectedly I've seen this happen from time to time. Best wishes & Happy Holidays

Outside of any gender-specific reason behind the choice, there is a general concensus on why nobody wants kids in this day and age: there is simply no incentive to have children. For every metaphorical excuse that makes raising children a "benefit", there are thousands of very tangible and realistic disadvantages to that choice that will break one's physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Hell, you could make the claim that the cost of living and lack of support in the US is so aggregious that having a child would objectively worsen one's livelihood. Couples who are knowledgable about this suffering but choose to have children anyways are admirable. But the vast majority choose to bear children simply because they feel like they "Have" to.

As a single mom of one, I can say it wasn’t easy, and I had financial security and a healthy bright kid. I will say the first 6 years was the hardest and most amazing. But now she is an adult, I’m so glad I have a daughter. She’s amazing.
