@User She knew practically from the time she released it that it was going in. That is how incredibly good she is from long range 3's, but never one from this far out. She got cheated on that. She had a few words for that same ref in the 3rd quarter and the little prick T'd her up. Not that anyone was pissed off about the T, it was just the inconsistency of the refs in this game.

Textbook shooting foul... great feel for the game, fantastic shot. Terrible call. MSU game was a bad call too... goes both ways. But that one I think the ref just didn't see the shooter start to put the ball on the floor because she got pancaked 🤣No excuse for the officials on this one

@teamfusion Thank you for that comment! I agree with the call in our game(MS), none of the refs were in position to see it to call it correctly. I was personally glad it went our way, because I had no more energy to spend on that crazy game. MS is going to get ranked sooner rather than later. It's a great team, they seem to have a great coach, and I hope they continue to play hard like that!!

@@survivrs MSU sure looked good...like a tournament team. Kansas State were not ranked before beating Iowa and I thought they looked really tough, very good. Iowa played them again the next week and got the win, but it was close. KSU is ranked #12 right now

The funny things is, bad ref will happen in all sports but hopefully it will not be too visible (thing "vanilla action") But bad ref for a shot like this ? Will be difficult to keep it unnoticed. The shot was spectacular.

@@teamfusionracing I agree, they are young, and they are only going to get better. I was impressed by them. Kansas St. wasn't that good. Something was going on before the game and it was obvious that Clark wasn't happy, and I just looked at my husband and told him we were going to lose, and we did. Different story in the Florida Gulf tournament when we played them again. All was right in the universe with Clark, and I think that is what let us beat them. The rest of the team takes their cues from her and that night was not fun.

That was a chickenshit call. She should have gotten the 3, and the "and 1" to finish it. It had nothing to do with the score, it had everything to do with the shot and the foul. She got pissed off in the 3rd quarter with the same ref, and he wasted no time hitting her up with a T, but nobody from Iowa cared. It was the principle of how the refs weren't calling fouls on Purdue. I don't blame Purdue, it's just that the refs were inconsistent. Despite the refs, Caitlin got another triple double and Iowa won 96-71. She was almost at mid-court when she put up that shot. The farthest shot I've ever seen her hit.

@doman Where are you located? This game was streaming on Peacock, and here we can get it for $6 a month, discontinue at any time. Iowa has 6 more games that are being played on Peacock and it pisses me off because you can't record the game, you can't pause it, and you can't back it up. You have to watch it as if you're in the arena or you will miss some of it.

Watched it numerous times at .25 playback speed. It appears the foul with left hand was just before Clark went into shooting motion so ref made correct call. Clark is dribbling and is possibly about to take off to drive inside or pass the ball to open teammate on baseline when the foul occurs. Clark has quick reflexes so decided to shoot because of the foul.

There isn’t a line to officiate - not an easy gig. It’s easy to second guess all of the calls once you get to see multiple replays & camera angles. It does however appear that she had started her shooting motion but her unicorn like skills probably just surprised the ref on this play. Because it’s Caitlin Clark it becomes a bigger deal. Opposing teams think she gets all of the calls & she complains all of the time that she’s getting fouled; ref’s can’t win 🤷🏻♂️! She is ridiculously talented & possibly the GOAT 🐐🏀 but it’s gotta be a nightmare officiating her games. That’s just my opinion after completing my 39th season as an official 👍🏻🏀😃 - the only job where you have to start PERFECT & get better! 😂

I'm a fan of Caitlin Clark but watching the slomo and pausing it, it all matters whether the defender hand-checks Caitlin before she gathers the ball or not. There's a slight moment where it looks like the defender has both of her hands on Caitlin 0:28 when Caitlin only has one hand on the ball before she quickly gathers it and shoots, so the ref might be right here. It's just hard to see if the defender makes contact at that moment, or when the contact is first made when she wraps her arms around Caitlin.

I am a Michigander who watched Clark dump in 46 pts. several years back in a losing cause to the Wolverines. Iowa had several starters out due to illness. I found myself rooting for Clark and the Hawkeyes before the game ended. So much heart and desire. What's there not to love. I might have been a bit over-descriptive with "worst" officiated, though it has become a salient feature this season that the physicality that is being allowed against Clark is much greater and uneven in application. It’s actually a tougher call than one would think. Should it have counted? Probably in a normal play. But the ref knew that they were going to intentionally foul her. That’s like you taking an inbound pass on a made basket, knowing you’re going to get fouled. You catch the ball and get fouled but then heave up a full court shot. Not many refs would award you with 3 free throws.

When a player takes the foul and then just chucks the ball at the rim... that should never count, even though sometimes a ref takes the bait. That's not what happened here though. CC anticipated the foul and started her shot...she WAS in the act of shooting when the foul occurred. Terrible call, and if it was reviewable it would have counted. But it's a game.. sometimes the calls don't go your way. She did get pretty hot after 3-4 no calls 😂

@@teamfusionracing the whistle came right when the defender hit her arm. When she heard the whistle, she then went into the motion of shooting the ball.

@@Shakester71 No... she baited the defender and timed the shot.... stepped into her shot right at the same time she reached in to foul. It's not like some of the stupid stuff in the NBA... there some of the continuation and-1 calls are ridiculous. I think the only reason she wasn't given the shot is because of where they were on the court. Same as when a team is bringing the ball up the court... ref doesn't give you the shot from 3/4 court, because nobody actually shoots from there. Same thing here. But if it happened 15-20 from the basket it's called a shot and-1 every time

@@Shakester71 Nope, she was in the motion of shooting before the whistle. How else do you think she could shoot it from mid court? If you think it was a fluke, you either need to watch a couple of games or just type in her name here and you will find hundreds of videos of her shooting. She has 3,244 points scored, 929 assists, and over 800 rebounds and counting. She's the only D1 player to ever record those stats, men or women. She signs autographs and does selfies for kids after every game-even opponents. Got a great photo signing autographs for kids in the NYC area after the game at Rutgers. She has her own charity that proceeds are donated to wherever she chooses, and my guess it is to the U of Iowa Children's Hospital. She visits kids there as often as she can, and while she doesn't carry a perfect 4.0 GPA, she is an academic all-American as well as an all-American athlete. She earned every Natl Player of the Year award last season among a number of other awards, and we just keep hoping she continues to be the player we see all the time. She truly is a generational player.
