Season 2 of Navigating Narcissism premieres on March 16th!
Roberta shares her time at LuLaRoe, a multi-level marketing company that sells women's clothes, and how working for them changed her life forever. LuLaRoe started out as a great experience for Roberta, making new friends, climbing her way to the top, and making her a lot of money. However, it ended with her disillusioned. LuLaRoe retailers were duped and manipulated by its narcissistic leaders by selling cheap material that pigeon-holed their employees in an endless loop of buying and selling, with many making no money. Listen and learn how LuLaRoe rose to the top, gained so much popularity, and how some of its former retailers are picking up the pieces today.
I want to hear from you, too. Have a toxic topic you want me to explore? Email me at askdrramani@redtabletalk.com. I just might answer your questions on air.

Seems to be getting worse. Or maybe I am getting older and just more sensitive to it and recognize it faster. Especially in regards to self appointed "spiritual" leaders and some of their flock. Family members can be bad as well.

Being taught to be subservient, questioning yourself, in constant self doubt and not valuing ourselves enough. It is a set up from family wounds. Parents who do that aren't worthy of the title part imo ✌

I did Amway for a bit and saw the game. I left after a few months and it’s very cult structured. After you decide you don’t want to be involved, they cut you off immediately. And they want you to sacrifice it all for these meetings, even if it’s late at night and you have other obligations the following day. You also spend a lot of money as well.

Interesting podcast. I myself got involved in selling for a few multi level marketing companies and did well. However, the last one scared me off. It felt very religious and cultish, with meetings being held in a massive hall and it was like a sermon being held. I stayed clear of this type of selling, but have been approached many many times to sell for other organisations. You think someone is reaching out to be a friend and all they want is to recruit you. Insurance companies are very similar.

Such a great discussion! I was married to a narcissist for 9 years, then joined LuLaRoe as an isolated single mom trying to make more money and friends. Unfortunately I lost thousands. I have since often thought that the way narcissists, MLM’s, and cults recruit and abuse are very similar. Thank you both so much for what you do.

Totally, victims of narcissist abuse are perfect match for mlms especially when you just leave a narc… And you don’t see or overlook the red flags 🚩 because you don’t see any danger… After all it’s just a Business… It’s nothing like a business! It’s a cult, a « legal » scheme 😢 Hopefully not for so long thanks to all the work of anti mlm community and public figures like Robert Fitz Patrick (that man is gold ❤)

I always seen them as similar to working retail…loss of income and waste of time! I can see the appeal for an abused person but most don’t have that type of money from financial abuse already! 5,000 is a big red flag to me! This is not an investment!!! it’s not your company. It’s a waste of money in my opinion that’s how I’ve seen all this thing before my marriage to narcissist. I had checked him out too confusing and I’m like no thank you.

Very perverse this Marc stuff and in so many arenas!!! She is kicking hind butt with this podcast!!! I honestly didn’t care for all the Psychology language she was using now that she puts it in a real contact so I think it makes it easier for people to see it because it’s so hard to see with covert narcissist. It’s so important to put it in laymen’s terms!!!!❤❤❤

Oh, yes! I see how this is narcissistic, and it is so ingenuous and it is the cycle of narcissistic abuse! It is a front, a false facade! We crave to belong, to be included, to be cared for, to become successful! What is the definition of faith, love, and peace!. Aha! I don’t wish anyone else to be Love bombed, to be gaslighted, nor to be pulled into any type of insidious relationship nor system! God bless you! Thank you!

A friend of mine tried to make money for her cancer treatments selling lularoe. What was heart breaking was seeing her up line conspire to get better and newer products that were easier to sell. They made money off of her and she was struggling to get money to pay for chemo. Several times when new products came out they got access and she got nothing. She didn't need that stress in the last year of her life. I've been donating my purchases because seeing them in my drawers and closet makes me both sad and angry.

To me MLM is friends using friends. Influencers on you tube get you sucked in to buy whatever they are unboxing. OHHH Ahhh what a great deal. Then they hook you even greater if you leave a comment and they reply. I fell for a few of them before realizing they get the better boxes or free boxes depending on how many views. These people are strangers not friends.

I felt like such a failure in MLM- I could never buy into auto ship - because fiscal responsibility! Then, am I not worthy of success? What is my belief system? It is not to disparage products- because I loved them. However, the hype- trying to get the new product.. I did this one too many times.. my sales didn’t get better- but I did! And this conversation, confirms it.. Well, that and the feeling I was making friends for what I wanted them to do, for me.. thank you Dr Ramani

My ex fiancée paints cars. We parted amicably when the narcissist blew up my life. Fun fact: The pink car has its own paint code for the Lincoln. (Mary Kay bubble gum.) The narcissist can disappear for an entire month sometimes. Remember to ask yourself where the hell they were when you rush to the phone shaking. I never questioned him yet had my phone tracked. There never was a golden period. I was giving from the beginning. Sixteen years later the only person who didn't gain anything is me.

I too grew up in the MLM world. My mom did Axon, Herberlife, Tupperware, Shaklee, & Melaluca. My mom knew how to talk people into buying. Back in 2015 I was in It Works selling skinny wraps. I'm not really use to selling. I hated having to constantly bug my friends & family to buy products. I got tired of it & quit & got a real job like a normal person. I rather work at a real job than to join an MLM. I did like the skinny wraps though.

I love your last name purely because the first four letters are my first name hahaha I had a friend once that was in LuLaRoe and I recall she had created a Facebook group that she had added me to along other chicks. Often she would go live with products as a way of selling. I never bought from her but I had watched some her live vids and thought how much must she have spent on product front loading. She no longer does it thankfully.

Seriously who would wear those goofy pants, even if they are buttery. The thing is, if anyone lures you in with the promise of freedom and money, and then immediately requires money and your time, then it's bull***t. The actions don't match the reality immediately!! It takes so much time to even make a sale and only the big man gets rich. That's so obvious right from the start, steer clear!

If someone thinks that a victim forgets, think again you srop stop caring what they have, what they do. They are pitiful people who need to get on with their own life and leave others alone. They are clearly very ill and need help if they get joy from hurting others. If their own life blew up because they cheated they need to get a grip and make their own life better.

None of us is perfect and if you’re going around accusing everyone of being a narcissist and not admitting to your own flaws/faults, then that’s also a little narcissistic. I’m not talking about Roberta, Roberta is great. But Dr. Ramani thinking her doctorate degree means she’s better than everyone else and has the qualification to judge after one interview the whole situation. Lularoe was a pyramid scheme.
