Diagnosing a possible bent axle on the Jeep XJ's Dana 30 HP has been on the cards since returning from a recent trip. I suspected a bad wheel alignment, but I don't think that's all of the problem. A lot of work is on the horizon, Truss, C Gussets, Long Arms and Cutting and Rotating the C's, but first I need to fis the immediate issues so I know what to do next.
Thanks for watching!

Anytime a Jeep breaks or something is worn out. We look to improve it. Ill be pulling my front axle for front frame stiffeners and strengthen some of the brackets this winter. Good luck with the build. It is fun wrenching but even better when we get to work the Jeeps.
@WorkshoptoWilderness

Ah nice, frame stiffeners are a nice mod! Also just for then being able to weld to the frame stiffener and know its not going anywhere. All for the greater good, It will be nice when all this works over but I will try and enjoy the process. Good lick on the stiffeners and thanks for watching!

You are such a perfectionist, I love it. Looking forward to seeing you build some long arms. I paid almost £1000 for the kit I had on my 4.0 after I paid the VAT on it and it wasn’t great. Made me realise I need to learn how to weld

Great video, as ever. All of a sudden this has become a major project. Very timely for me to see what you are up to though. I'm currently looking out for a decent condition high pinion dana 30 to swap into my TJ and much of what you are doing is exactly what I keep going backwards and forwards on in my mind.
@WorkshoptoWilderness
@WorkshoptoWilderness 7 ай бұрын
That's a nice coincidence! I don't think my truss will be much to go by, its juts going to be some 1/2 inch steel. Its a shame because I would love to get a proper one but the shipping is savage. Are you US based?
@eversleyowl
@eversleyowl 7 ай бұрын
@@WorkshoptoWilderness no, I'm in the UK so I completely share your pain with regard to RHD parts availability. If I was in the US I would probably swap in JKR axles, but the sales of JKRs were so low in the uK you just can't find them. I've shipped parts from the US, but only Quadratec and RockAuto - as you say the cost is eye watering on occassions. Then you get hit with close to 25% in duty and VAT 🙄 Yet to do it, but I have been looking into having parts shipped to a company on the East Coast that loads it all into containers and ships by sea to the UK. If you can free internal US shipping that looks to bring the cost down to 1/3 of FedEx et al.
@WorkshoptoWilderness
@WorkshoptoWilderness 7 ай бұрын
@@eversleyowl Ah okay, well I know the feeling with 25 percent vat. It bumps up the cost quite considerably. I suppose the plus side is you get creative and make a lot more parts, but the other side for is, sometimes I would rather buy them and save all the grinding and welding. Some of the trusses look amazing. Mine will probably look functional haha.

I love the bottle jack hack to straighten the C's. My XJ's C's are bent as well and I've considered just putting a D44 in it, but I'm having a really hard time justifying the cost. I might try the bottle jack and adding some gussets for now to get it down the road for a bit longer.
@WorkshoptoWilderness
@WorkshoptoWilderness 5 ай бұрын
The bottle jack did the job. I didn't realise how bad they were bent until I did this. A D44 would ne such a good upgrade, I would run 37s if I had the opportunity to get one of those axles. Thanks for watching and good luck with the C's!
