man im already happy you did the interview with Maria. Super down to earth and her courses are music first and no overbloated plugin shilling. great! Maybe you can get her into the produce like a pro program. especially her take on Reggaeton was really cool, normal plugins but great outcome & no voodoo. EDIT: oh wow, watched till the end and get my surprise. Its actually happening ^^ yea!

I’ve watched so many of your great interviews and this is my favourite. Incredible, knowledgeable and passionate person to interview and such a meaningful conversation, covered lots of ground. It’s great to hear the stories and lessons from the veterans of the 70s and 80s, but someone who fought and fought in the modern era to earn their place was inspiring . I’m actually past the stage of inspired and onto awed with her, the story of her journey at the start just had ridiculous tenacity, anyone who wants to make it in any kind of challenging industry would spend time well to watch this.

"Don't be afraid to start over." Man that's powerful! Very humble and a go getter. You gotta put yourself out there to be noticed. Thanks for helping Maria share her story! Love her insight on new engineers versus the experienced. I feel very fortunate that I studied music for 20+ years. I feel like I'm caught somewhere in the middle. I'm one of those who opened up Garageband and dove right in. But my knowledge in music has made this new endeavor much easier to learn. And I feel more inclined to learn the science behind audio engineering because it's all related. Music needs to play a more prominent role in schools! The skills you acquire through music is so beneficial for personal growth.

The whole talk was priceless. The passion for music and production and tech you both exhude on this video is contagious. And considering all the things she had to do, the hard work, the visa deadlines, the fanta cleaning, to be where she is now, i think these marvelous things can only happen when you go for them, head on the door again and again, working around until the world sees you. Everything that happens in between, everything you learn along the way, will come handy at some point. If you know where you're going and you stay in motion, there's no such thing as "wasted time". Thank you for showcasing one of the most invisible and important jobs in music. Without geniuses like her there'd be no good records to listen to.

Probably my favorite part of this interview is how she describes falling into the Il Divo gig. How all of that can't be automated. Always heard singing in it's most pure form as if the music transcends the language it's communicated in. Many times I can still hear vocal melodies the way a foreigner hears the inflections etc. for years and not know the lyrics. What a double-faceted test of what one's made of, the ultimate engineering gig (from a professional and technical standpoint) & having to rely on the muscality and 'one's ears' to get it done right. Pretty awesome story. Makes me want to check some of Maria's work out. Thank You both for sharing this interview & helping to expand my horizons. Cheers!!

Hey Warren, I truly hope you are doing "marvellously well' and thank you for these wonderful moments! As an ageing wannabe rock star from the 80's who, whilst having some interest, just never got the break, I'm finding your sharing of expertise in recording and production technique + your insights into the music industry as a whole an inspiration. I'm now the wrong side of 50 years old... very the wrong side, and although I've never really stopped playing and writing, it's not been a priority... you know, got to pay the bills, feed the kids and all that shizzle! Anyhow, I've never stopped playing and writing, and of late this has become a bit of a revival... am now kind of actively writing and recording what I would loosley describe as an album!... bit of a long way of saying, I'm loving an appreciating your experience an input/output! Long may it last!! ^_^

What's the American studio industry's obsession with making people clean toilets and getting coffee? Soldering cables and recapping boards is one thing, but I keep hearing about toilet cleaning? Is this a way of asserting dominance? All the studios I've been interning in, the owner's cleaned their own damn toilets and vacuumed their own carpets. But here's the kicker, If I showed initiative, and brought in coffee and biscuits by my own volition, THAT counted for something. Know what I mean? Maybe it's a cultural thing.

Damn she low key shading on bedroom producers for not being as technically proficient to engineers. But the thing is the average person doesn’t really notice the imperfections & fine tuning, so in turn people just focus on the creative process of making music. Sure we’d love to know what it is to effectively mix a song but when there is so much misinformation on how to mix a four bar loop it becomes frustrating & boring.

I don’t remember anywhere Maria is saying anything negative, just helping. Also pointing out that a mixers job is correct these things and helping the producer/artist out!

And yes, there is tons of misinformation out there! There’s whole teaching areas from people who aren’t good mixers teaching mixing! Online teachers are not measured by their abilities to teach as much their likability! We live in a world where Presidents are elected because ‘I’d want to have a beer with him’ haha rather than can they do a capable job? Haha

Did I say that? I don't think I did, as technically, I am almost a home mixer myself. It's not about location or educational level, but about professionalism and quality when delivering tracks to engineers.
