My dad used to play all the time, and would sometimes pay for a month or two for me and my sister to join him. I got a character up to around lvl 40 and had no idea what the story was at all. I think this was back when Mists of Pandaria was new. It's a functional game in my experience, but it just didn't do anything to make me feel invested in the world.

So prior to the moment you get dunked into the land of dinosaurs, story-wise, there's been the events of: - The base game (aka vanilla WoW) - Expansion 1: The Burning Crusade - Expansion 2: Wrath of the Lich King - Expansion 3: Cataclysm - Expansion 4: Mists of Pandaria - Expansion 5: Warlords of Draenor - Expansion 6: Legion -Barf- Battle for Azeroth is the seventh expansion. You're only missing out on about 14 years of lore- and world building, several hundred NPC's, dozens of 'big baddies' and probably a bazillion other things I can't think of right now. Welcome to modern World of Warcraft.

First I would like to congratulate you for your work. I enjoy your videos and the way you interpret the games in your quest to find a feel and connection with the games, their lores and environments. I totally see myselft on your words! I would like to suggest you to try Alliance, maybe dwarf. on the classic starting area. Among the few things Ive tried, It was the one i felt more connection with the environment and the lore. I think you will find what you are looking for in the old WoW. The pace at which the game was played back then allowed players to better absorve all aspects of it, making us feel more on track and connected rather than trowing us here and there without allowing any spare space to develop roots. And without roots, we cant create fond memories. When i look at old screenshots, I feel the same way when I remember my childhood. And that for me is one key point for a good mmorpg - the ability to create fond memories. It takes a great combination of things to make it happen. Looking forward for more content!

I'd try making a new character and choosing the racial starting area. In all honestly I got WoW because of you, I absolutely love the series because I relate heavily to it, never been fond of MMOs but ESO and WoW are the ones I enjoy the most. I found that the end of the Exile's Reach just kind of thrusts you into the world. BUT from the racial starting area my dwarf paladin liberated and fought for the eastern kingdoms, earned the title, eventually leading me into the Kul Tiran questline and it is the most fun I've had in a really long time with a game, I feel its worth it and I love that I can I pay the sub and do as I please.

Pete. The reason you got transferred to the land of Aztecs and dinosaurs is you were inadvertently given the breadcrumb for a major expansion, not the story quests for the zone you started out in. Which is unfortunate story wise, but you can always go back to Orgrimmar using the portals in the main pyramid and pick up where you were if you wish. There should be quest givers in the capital that will let you continue with the story in the main city. Need any help mate, just ask. Man.. I forgot they straight up just dump you into the main content of BFA. Old players get this whole rescue mission where you save the princess so you know the characters by the time the cinematic occurs. Blizzard not giving a crap as usual.... The story of modern WoW is an incomprehensible dumpster fire in general. It legit is easier to get into the boomer throwback version in WoW: Classic.

I think you should try wow classic it's much more streamlined in the old school way. I think modern wow is great but it's definitely not as new player friendly anymore. I would play vanilla classic into the burning crusade which is the first expansion.
