Bellular my boi. Lothar was killed by chad Doomhammer, not virgin Blackhand. Not to be a supernerd, but it is how it happened.

You're both technically right. He was originally defeated by Blackrock Orcs lead by Blackhand but it was later retconned into Doomhammer in a duel since it was more fitting someone of his stature.

@@Kahtah That would be incorrect since Anduin Lothar was killed in Warcraft 2, not Warcraft 1 and it was made clear in Warcraft 2 that Blackhand was no longer Warchief, having been replaced by Orgrim Doomhammer. True, Warcraft 2 did not specify whether or not Lothar was slain by Doomhammer himself or by his warriors, so that detail might have been a retcon, but Blackhand was most definitely no longer alive at that point.

Fun Fact: The Scarshield Quartermaster was moved from the orb entrance to a side corridor because people walking to the orb (the portal to the raid entrance) kept killing him, and his respawn timer sucked. The Quartermaster dropped the letter to start the attunement quest.

@@RudiRich Nah, the head was added to Nefarian when Onyxia got eleveated to 80, so Onyxia would drop a non-set version of T2 for 80s while Nefarian dropped the old T2.

Pretty much all raids were, if not in lore then in preparation required. For example if you were a melee dps you absolutely HAD to spend hours or days killing Furbolgs in Winterspring to get enough damn elixirs. And so on for a lot of stuff. Probably the most demanding ones were for Dungeons the 45 Stratholme and Naxxramas (the best gear before Naxx was not good enough for Naxx, and the Naxx gear itself was barely enough for Naxx)

As a Prot Warrior I hated this patch, because I loved the Shield Discipline talent and this patch removed it and replaced it with Shield Slam. With Shield Discipline I had a 20-sec window of being virtually unkillable every 45 seconds. With Shield Slam I got...another attack. I already spent too much of my time rage-starved, and my threat was quite good with proper management; why did I need another rage-dump attack? To me, this marked the beginning of a slide into making tanks into damage-dealers, rather than being specialized in mitigation. If I wanted to play a DPS, I would have spec'd DPS.

The hunter call on Nef was to break your bow/gun so you had to either unequip it before each call or someone had to drop a repair bot mid-raid (or you could bring multiple bows, but the drop in DPS wasn't worth it). Nef also didn't drop the t2 helm. I think that was Ony or Rag. I don't recall.

Lol Draconoid xD Also Neffy didn't start dropping t2 helmets until Onyxia was relaunched in WotLK. And you didn't mention the coolest raid mechanic up until that point - Nefarian's class call, which was even updated for WotLK to include Death Knights. I enjoy these videos immensely but this one felt rather rushed.

He never played vanilla so all the information he gets is second hand at best. He skipped over a lot. Vael was the guild killer and probably the hardest fight until nef himself. He glanced over that in like 2 seconds without a mention lol.

Nefarian dropped only the chest piece. The head piece was from Onyxia... until she was revamped in WotLK.

Razorgore before his nerf was exhillerating. It was beauty. The strategy we had to develop had to run like clockwork, a very literal metaphor as several groups around the room had to move and spin into one another in unison to survive the immense damage and growing pressure through more and more adds with the maintank eventually kiting a train of death in an 8-shape around the room. It was, in as literal a sense as possible, clockwork. And from there on out, I thought this was how the WoW's boss designs would be in the future. It set a bar, an amazing bar. But the game dissapointed quickly and for years to come. The Four Horsemen were to closest to something on this level of design and required raid-tactics again. Almost everything afte was just bogstandard "don't out-threat the maintank, step out of the glowie stuff, click a thing (usually just for one person).

These were dark times for players like me who fell into the cracks, not being into PVP and not having a good enough guild to do BWL. The fact they added an easier raid later with zul'gurub shows this was a common problem. I did see BWL by watching a friend play through it, so I guess that was good enough for me.

Trivia: Blizzard keeps updating Nefarian's class call with each new class released. So there are mechanics for Death Knights, Monks and Demon Hunters. You can check each class call at wow.gamepedia.com/Nefarian_(tactics)#Phase_2

The timer starts after zoning into the instance, not at the start of the fight. The fight still had a 3 minute timer though because you got a 3 minute buff that gave you infinite mana/energy regeneration

Ah world defense channel, I remember my guild we had about 90% of the server rank 11 and up players on Horde faction and we would use world defense almost like a guild channel. Got so many whispers from people either asking how they could talk in that channel or just wanting us to shut up.

This was close to the end of it for me, as the world began to not matter. We were #1 on everything on our server, yet the PvP bullcrap added was just a sad affair that made a different game within the game -- and you could see it wouldnt stop here. Now we had a FPS battleground that had PvP with no lasting effect and sterile setting that you got gear simply based on time. Skill was now crap. Guilds fighting and defending and owning areas were now crap. Alliance vs Horde was now crap. The love of a city gate, or a leader, or a leveling spot (xroads, westfall, TM, Plaguelands, etc) started to fade and became a waste of time in comparison to jumping into a sterile and safe setting that also gave gear for free in the BGs. the MMORPG of WoW was to fade into a single player game that eventually would land us with LFG and LFR and LFBoredom.

Uhh who is writing these episodes? The writer obviously didn’t play vanilla, there are multiple things blatantly wrong in these videos. For instance, nefarian dropped the cheat pieces not the helms, onyx is drops the helms. You keep calling patch 1.5 call to war but show a graphic that says dogs of war... I could go on but please for the love of god have someone QC these vids that actually played and remembers these patches...

These videos are really informative... but you seem to pander heavily to the Classic crowd even here. Stroking their egos with describing every Classic addition as "bold", "cutting edge" and "massive". Even the last video on BGs was the same, describing the old AV with many superlatives or other emotional words... I'd bet my salary that you'll drop this language once you go into Wrath, especially towards the end...
