im a city boy who likes to go hiking and learning about being more self sufficient and i stumbled onto your vids a while ago. yes there are better people who can teach me things but at the same time, your personality is what caught my eye. i watch your vids to help keep my eyes on the prize to one day move from the city and live in a similar fashion to how you do. i get to see older techniques, most of the time more efficient, in just doing random things that people like me never would learn in the city. I for one thank you!

I can relate to the way you marvel at the simple things like the look and smell of beeswax and the brilliance of simple, effective ideas like hollowing out the center of the log to make it stable. I also like that you're appreciative of those people that help you. Like others have mentioned, I don't watch to learn how to do these things, I watch to relax. Simple and clever things have a beauty that's worth appreciating and I enjoy that you take the time to appreciate them.

If people are in a hurry because they feel like they need a quick resolution then maybe they should go to another site. Your videos explain more than just how to do the project, they teach about the great interaction that you and your family have and how along the way we all learn a lesson not only about the projects that your working on, but we also learn lessons about family and being good people. Love the way you talk us through each chore or project. You make me feel like I'm down in the basement of my Uncle Bob's farm house in Iowa Falls. I'm 64 and my Uncle was an old school farmer and self taught carpenter He made the picture frames for all of my mom's many oil paintings. Every time I got to go visit he'd take me to his shop for some project. These are some of my dearest childhood memories. Keep up the good work Cody, we love your family and your vlogs.

I hope you don't have any more episodes of wondering whether you should continue your channel. You are, by far, my favorite channel. I will be doing what you are in the next 3 -5 years. I have been learning skills for the last 5 years to try to be ready, which I'm sure I will never be ready but i'm going to do it anyway. You inspire me with almost all of your videos. I actually have learned a lot from you, even though you downplay your knowledge and skill. Some things are just a refresher, as my father and grandfather taught me many things and I feel very fortunate that I grew up around such knowledgeable men. Yesterday I finished hanging two axe heads that were my grandfathers, a single bit and a double bit. Unfortunately, I don't know what brands they are since there are no markings on them. The double bit, was hand hammer forged though. Hanging them was about 3 days work as it is the first time for me. Today, I started playing around with some leather so that I can make sheaths for them. I will send some pictures when I am finished with them. Maybe I will get on the end of one of your videos?!? I never worked with an anvil before, nor did I know how to mount the one I just received. Thanks to you, I can now mount one the way it should be mounted and also know how to preserve the wood. It was all new knowledge for me and I appreciate it. Keep it up !!!!

Seeing these videos reminded me of how my uncles use to do things. I started blacksmithing a few months ago and I really enjoy it. Forget the haters, I enjoy your enthusiasm and appreciation for the simplistic things in life.

I find your videos so soothing and relaxing. I live in the suburbs in New Zealand and I rarely get the chance to do any of the things you do. In a way, I guess I do them vicariously through your videos. Please don't ever consider giving it up.

I enjoy watching you do work around your house because you research and learn as you go the same way most of us do. Sometimes you know the right way to do things and you may not have the proper tools, but you can improvise or borrow what you need to get the job done and feel good about what you're left with in the end. Then, you clean up your mess and return the tools to a state better than you started with.

It's not about learning it the best way but following along with your journey on the homestead. I think most here long to have their own land and be on a similar path. I still learn a lot watching your videos so don't forget about the tutorials completely.

I just found your channel, really enjoyed your anvil project. I mounted my dads huge anvil on a stand very much like you are doing and of course had my dad leaning over my shoulder helping me and it went just about like yours except there was a lot of chuckling and "I wouldn't do like that" and "Boy I taught you better than that" I am amazed I ever survived thoes days, dads just know how to get their sons mind to become supple, they work them over and over. I just made an anvil stand from a red oak log, your info made it much easier. I have straight cuts, I concealed the bottom, covered top & bottom with beeswax. I have a nice, solid stand now that should last for years. Made from a tree that fell 2 winters ago. Thanks for all the good info.

I personally watch(and I'm sure this same thing is expressed in other comments) because I appreciate your appreciation of quality, the idea of choosing things(using techniques) that will hold up and last, a refreshing change from our current disposable/throw away culture. Please keep doing what you're doing, it will never go unappreciated by me.

The reason I watch is because you are a great role model, entertaining, and I simply like watching. I get great ideas from you and a lot of inspiration from you as well. I always watch your videos before anyone else. It is a treat to come home, get on youtube and see how the Wranglerstar family is doing!

Speaking of beeswax candles, for anyone who uses those UCO candle lanterns the beeswax candles are great! They burn longer than the other lanterns, and they smell fantastic. When I'm camping in the winter time I'll sometimes use one to warm my tent up a bit, to take the edge off the cold so to speak (make sure your have good ventilation!!!), and the beeswax candles are so much more pleasant to use than the normal candles or the citronella candles. I also keep a few of them, along with the candle lantern, in my vehicles during the winter time for the same reason.

You know what's great about your projects with multiple videos? You show most of the steps and it gives a realistic timeline for the project. For someone who doesn't have the first clue I find this helpful. Keep on doing what you're doing.

Your right Cody. I for one, watch your vids for the entertainment value. Two, your well spoken and your content is pretty clean and thats a nice thing at the end of the day. Three, despite the entertainment I still learn things by watching you work or talk. Please keep it up. Your a breath of fresh air in an otherwise crappy world.

Have to agree with you. I'm watching the videos because some strange way those are relaxing and entertaining. I have summer cottage where I spend my holidays by repairing the cottage and makeing woodworks with my limited skill-set. However, I live in city and our videos and big cup of coffee are great escape from weekday rush. So thank you.

In regards to the end statements, I do watch your channel to learn things, but i watch a lot more channels... what i like about your channel specifically, it gives me a rough idea on how things will turn out if 'I' were to do them myself ... or rather, what i should strive for... a lot of things i have never done, sure i can watch somebody that is an expert, and true i would learn some things, but i can not expect a project to turn out the way it does for that expert with years of experience... This I think is great about watching you do things, it gives a reasonable view of what to expect in a project after having 'some' experience. And in some cases, with no experience at all, which I think is great as well as you do not hide your mistakes or mishaps, which at least shows me how 'not' to do things (which is just as important). And yes, the entertainment value is part of it too, if it wasn't viewable i wouldn't watch it ... but for me the above is more important. Simply getting an idea of what a regular guy with some experience has to do on a homestead, what he runs into when doing all of that, what options i have if i want to do something like that as well, be it in top tools or 'on a budget'. And I'm also looking forward to the harvest videos and the garden stuff, even though that is more of 'miss Wranglerstars' stuff to do, but it's life at the homestead, so it interests me. What is there to do, how to do it, how not to do it, what is hard, what is easy. Now I (and i do not know if this is a general male thing, but) share your passion for tools, and mainly those older hand tools. This is not just coming from my own background in engineering, or from a preppers pov. (as powertools will not do you any good in a true grid down world), but there just is something 'dare i say sexy' about these shiny metal tools with their aged polish shine wooden handles, some are so well thought out, speciality tools with excellent function (if you consider them to be hand tools) ... I think that if i didn't have these interests, i simply wouldn't watch the channel, as it would offer nothing of my interest... But for all the people that do like woodworking, metal working, homesteading, and older tools, then this is a great channel with an open house mentality and a common (wo)man approach to these topics... Ohw, and the fact that you put up content regularly helps as well, a channel can be really good, but if the content is put out very irregular and with a lot of time in between videos, I just loose interest... there are suggestions showing up with almost any video you watch, showing more people doing similar style videos, if they put up content more often, then I rather spend the time on those (assuming a roughly similar quality) then 'waiting' for that one video... Really, hiatus things are generally bad in the 'on demand' reality of online content. Now sure, I get that most people have a job, and maybe only put out 1 video a week, maybe 2, and I do not omit them because of that (especially if the content is good), but seeing you put out more then that amount, that certainly gives your channel a plus... (actually, you are top in the list of my favourites in the folder of 'youtube channels' simply because of that, when working down that list I can reasonably expect to at least watch a video that is more then likely of my interest on your channel. Yeah sorry I order the channels in logical utilitarian order from my pov, but if you are in that list, you are already one of my favourite channels. I do not think I could actually pick a true favourite from among them as they all offer different things :)

I don't mind that you took a long time over it and let us know your thought processes. I only wanted to know how to mount the anvil but I'm now thinking about how to put a concave base on the stump im getting tomorrow. Also nice to see a samll anvil on such a big stump. I only need a small anvil but have a big old stump arriving. I will be sealing it as well. I might lnow someone that can get me some beeswax or I have some beeswax based finishing oil I might use.

Dear Sir, I wanted to take a moment and let you know that I truly do value your KZfaq channel. As a high school history teacher in northern Wisconsin, I do all that I can to teach my students to learn from their elders and pass down the traditions and trades of old. In addition, I place a high value on the tips you offer on how to be a good man. These are things I also pass on to my students when it's time for formal dances, etc. I am sure you have seen the Dick Proenneke videos "Alone in the Wilderness - Parts 1 & 2, as they are often shown on PBS. You remind me of him a great deal. However, you do it by living in a community (both traditional and KZfaq) and taking a leadership role. I have a great deal of respect for this. You stated something a few weeks ago about how somebody can tell a lot about a man by how he cares for his tools. I have really taken that to heart and have been making sure my tools are clear of rust (wire brush and 3-in-1 Oil), handles look good (light sanding and boiled linseed oil), and making sure my shop is in tip-top shape. This is because you are absolutely correct. My tools and my shop are a reflection of me. I want to always make a good impression and demonstrate the values that are important to me. Anyway - thank you for your fire protection service in your community, thank you for your videos, and thank you for sharing the way you live your life with us. I am quite grateful. The Google Generation wants everything instantly. You carry on at your own pace. There are plenty of 5 minute youtube videos for them to watch, we like yours because we learn something, it is relaxing and sometimes we have a giggle with you. You are man like me who has a go at things, we aren't the best but sometimes we find a new way of doing something because we adapt a skill from a previous trade, it is a sort of cross pollination. That can only be a good thing.

Along the same line as your outro in this clip, there are "experts" on everything, But it's always much more satisfying (IMO) to see a fellow "regular guy" do these things. I'm a small Hobby Farmer/ student of all things forgotten by modern society, and I've gotten mere great ideas and tips from your channel over the past couple of years than I can remember.Keep up the good work

1 part beeswax mixed with 4 parts boiled linseed oil gives you a consistency close to shoe polish and commercial furniture waxes.. Use more boiled linseed oil to get a creamy consistency.. for kitchen utensils and other food related things swap the boiled linseed oil out with mineral oil. (Doesn't make the wax smell like boiled linseed oil, but offers less protection, so you need to reapply it more often)
