Hey Cody I just wanted to say that you've changed my life completely. I've been watching your videos for a year and a half. I'm 13 now and just wanted to thank you for all the knowledge that you've given me. I don't own any tools because I and my family don't have enough money but just watching you and Jack use them is enough for me. Thank you.

I am glad you finally realized you needed bifocals. When i first got mine it was a real EYE opener. Now 7 years later had to have cataract surgery and glasses free for long distance but needed for reading. I was lucky the the VA hospital gave me bifocals with no correction on top, but correction to allow me to read with the auto darkening of the lenses as i have had to wear glasses since around 1975 with the tint and my eyes are light sensitive now. I keep the glasses in the truck, use reading glasses in the house and wear sunglasses between and know what you mean by the hassle. Wear them, be proud, and enjoy what you have been missing.

THESE videos are why I come to the Wranglerstar channel so its good to hear you enjoyed it too. Some are brave enough to throw a log that size on their lathe. It does work out eventually but sure looks dangerous those first few minutes. Will keep an eye out for that 2nd episode. Glasses are fine. Some people like vanilla. Some people like chocolate.

Hey Wranglerstar, been watching your vids for a while but have never left a comment. Just wanted to say i think you have a great thing going out there on your place. I live out of a suitcase due to my work and long for a place of my own like you have. I like it that you don't ever profess to be an expert at most things but just a fellow who tries his hand at them. Your comment on wearing your hard hat while using the chainsaw is good advice to repeat. I knew a man who took a saw right in the face and has a scar on his forehead, right between his eyes and down the bridge of his nose, what a close call ! The way to avoid kick-back is two fold, first: be aware of how it happens and second: NEVER bend the arm at the elbow of the hand that holds onto the saw's top bar when cutting. That has worked for me up to this point. Cheers and keep up the good work.

Cody I wore contacts for a number of years and what I found was the contacts seem to hold some of the fine dust that is in the air when you are grinding or in a dusty area that your eyes are always irritated so I went back to the glasses... Over the years they have kept countless drops of fiberglass resin out of them... and that alone is a reason to wear them. Oh I forgot nice video and glad some of the stuff we brought over could be put to use on the homestead.

The new glasses get two thumbs up from me, Cody. I often opt to wear contacts more myself due to being able to wear sunglasses when I'm outside. My eyes are highly sensitive to light, and I'm not a fan of prescription glasses that darken when you're outside. They go me in trouble once in sixth grade. Anyway, glasses can be sooo much easier than contacts, but contacts work better for me.

Cool video. Looking forward to the rest of it. I had done this about six months ago and I had a hard time finding the best way to do it. I got it done but it will be interesting to see your take on it. On the bifocals, they keep telling me that I might need them but I think that everyone has just been printing everything smaller for the past year, its a conspiracy to make me feel old. ;)

I thought your discussion on your glasses was interesting, It brought memories back to me when I was working (retired now). I worked at a nuclear power plant in California doing IT work. I told the safety inspector I was getting new prescription safety glasses and he said you need to get trifocals. What???? He pointed at a sign above my head and he said read that. I cranked my head back to see the reading section of my glasses. He said you need reading prescription at the top so you don't have to crank your head back, just looked through the top. The other thing I found the hard way is the Optometrist said read this book while I check your eyes, so I pulled the book up like I normally would. After getting my new glasses I was working in a communication cabinet with small screws at arms length. Could not see the screw slot for the screw driver. Turns out the screws were too close for the main part of the glasses and too far for the reading part. Same thing for a computer keyboard. The monitor was ok but the key board was at arms length, that in between spot. Learned a lot going in for my next exam.

Welcome to the "older" generation. ;) I like that your frames have larger lenses. When I got my last pair all they had were the narrow frames. I kept telling them that the lenses did come down far enough for me to be able to read with them. They didn't get it. More times than not I am looking UNDER my glasses than through them if I am reading or working on something.

Hi i have just watched your video and i enjoyed it just as much as you said you did.I wish you had oak logs in your part of the world. Our old blacksmiths seem to use the same idea of putting the anvil onto a large log in england and oak is a very hardwearing wood.It seems to change with age and just get harder and tougher.I am working on a tool handle project and the old piece of oak branch seems to have gotten harder as it dries out.Your comments about the picking and peeling struck a chord. It is a strange fact of life that i did not realise until my observations later in life about picking and what i call grooming. As a child i would pick my fathers hand when he came home from the metalworker shop and get out all the splinters. Now my daughters do the same for me.I now think that it is a basic part of our evolutionary heritage to "groom" Does mrs wranglerstar ever cut your hair? If yes then you will perhaps understand. Rambling again.[shut up les] Long live wood.

Pardon me if someone else mentioned it already, but a sand-filled base is considered by some to be superior to a log, as it has superior shock absorbing characteristics and durability vs. wood. You may refer to "The Backyard Blacksmith" which is in your Wranglermart store for instructions on how to build one.

Just to let you know,in some of the better welding shops , they sell non prescription bifocals (the lower half is magnified only) If your prescrips are plastic....you might want the option of not damageing them to sparks, smoke or grinding. They also wrap around your head a little better for side protection.
