I'm suprised Jake "The Snake" Robert's 2014 return isn't on here. That was one of the most heartbreaking returns of all time. Simply because the Crowd had no idea who he was. It was one of the best moments in Jake's life (Because he overcame his personal life issues), and he received no pop at all. I feel so bad for him. He deserved so much better.
@heartattackjack9349

Jake was one of the best of his era. Tall and lanky, he could still hang with the big boys, pull a DDT out of nowhere, and even had real decent matches with the Andre. No huge muscles. Just a snake, good wrestling, and presence. One of my favorite wrestlers of the time.

didn't help the show had sucked to that point. i quit watching wwe about 3 months before, gave it a shot because old school raw. show was so bad, i turned it off after 2 hours, just caught the return online, didn't watch another live wrestling show until i started watching dynamite in feb of 2020. shame that after all he went through, he didn't get the pop he deserved (though he got a huge one when he showed up in aew just before the pandemic).

One of the things that was cool about the old days when they were called pro wrestlers was that in kayfabe they were independent athletes who bounced between competing organizations. It felt like they took breaks and returned to TV later on their own schedule, following their own plans, which often made returns more interesting.

Not all returns are executed as good returns. Its not always even a reflection on the talent. Its a matter of reading the room and properly evaluating a stars popularity based on how they were previously received and booked there vs how they were received and booked elsewhere. Cody was a hit, but look what he accomplished on his own. Drew was great, Lashley took time but he got over when positioned correctly. Bray’s character work always appeal to some, even more than ringwork. For the successes there are more failures and flops if its overdone. The rumor of the return shouldn’t be better than the actual return.

@ofs82
@ofs82 Жыл бұрын
Del Rio - got buzz from initial appearance, as it was somewhat unexpected given how he had parted from WWE. However, the main reason he had buzz while away from WWE was as an anti-WWE rebel type given how and why he'd left, so he quickly lost all that buzz and momentum on returning. Bossman - too soon after he'd spent most of 2000 in his post-Corporation run as underneath talent and putting others over, so fans couldn't believe in him as a main eventer again so soon. Masters - had sucked in his initial run. When he returned he'd clearly worked hard to improve in the ring, but people didn't care about his first run to be excited by a return. Jack Swagger - just mid-card personified. Emma - sadly for her the great work she'd done had largely been on NXT and on the main roster she'd been a comedic foil to Santino in her most memorable stint. With all that had come since, she was kind of lost in the shuffle. Hit Row - seemed a bit meaningless without having the centrepiece of the act. Bulldog - a bit of a throwback that didn't fit in the Attitude Era, and the attempt to repackage his presentation didn't work. Khali - was never very good to begin with in the ring and once you got over the amazement at his size and physique, there wasn't much else to him. Ronda - the way she buried the company after leaving rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way. Nia Jax - see Khali.

Agree with the #1 choice on the list as most fans know that Nia never deserved to even be on tv in the 1st place, I can think of no other wrestler in history that has legit injured more people because of her careless /sloppy ring work. I disagree about Ronda, but not because of her being selected #2. I disagree about her ever having any excellent matches. At her best possibly a decent match depending on who was working with her to put her over. Both Nia and Ronda have the worst type of heat (the go away heat).

I never really got that Submission hold. That lady/woman whatever her name is. Her Submission hold takes place using the ropes to do and initiate it. I thought if one wrestler grabs or touches the ropes, The Referee is suppose to break up the hold. So I never really got that move in general.

It's the tarantula. Tajiri used to do it all the time. It's not a submission. The ref does do a count and he breaks it up. They just have 5 seconds to deal as much damage as they can.

Idk what this guy's smokin, but Ronda Rousey wasnt a disappointment. First off, I was @ that rumble and fans WERE EXCITED to see her return. The only reason the pop wasnt louder is bc it was spoiled and she was spotted backstage. Otherwise, nobody had a problem with her winning or anything like that. Second, when is kayfabe stories ever explained on the show? She was a babyface and thats it. Period.

I actually liked Nia Jax back in her NXT days and when she first debuted on the main roster. She looked like she cared about herself more and was presented as more intimidating and monstrous but then became bratty with her character as well as careless. She wasn't that careless when she was debuting and she didn't injure people. I feel like she got too comfortable and sabotaged herself

I was so disappointed in Nia Jax being in the Rumble this year, though not as much as I was with Ronda Rousey last year. I genuinely thought it was going to be Beth Phoenix entering last focused on tossing Rhea out and coming short of that, continuing from the spear from earlier and maybe a spot in which she locked up with Michelle McCool. And that spot in which everyone ganged up on Nia to then send everyone flying was so cheesy.

Vader's 2005 WWE return should have been on the list for many reasons. - No crowd reacton mostly due the fans being mostly little kids - Really out of shape, he kept falling over and stumbling in the ring while attacking Batista - Falls off the ring while exiting

Well I always liked Del Rio character and wrestling ability, never disappointed by his return, only that his last return was clear they didn’t want to push him anymore due to his personal life, which him as a person is the nail in his coffin for his career. His feud vs the big show was what drew my interest into him.

To add to the list of WWE surprise returns about which few to no one cared, look at the Raw episodes that led up to Raw 1000 like Sycho Sid, Vader & Sgt Slaughter, to name a few. Another one would be when Trish Stratus returned to Raw in December 2008 as John Cena's, who was World Heavyweight Champion at that point, mystery tag team partner against Glamarella(Beth Phoenix "The Glamazon" & Santino Marella). At that point, Trish was only retired for 2 years & 3 months. Now, it seems like Trish has received better reception from the fans than she had back on Raw in December 2008, including Lita. Still, I know that there's going to be people, especially kids, whether wrestling fans or not, who are going to ask or wonder who Trish Stratus and/or Lita is. It's been done to Jake "The Snake" Roberts, but people will react to who they know, love, hate & respect. Get familiar, people!
