In this video, I make the dovetailed front rail, the sliding dovetail drawer divider, and the internal structure of the desk. From there, it's glue up!

I am making a simple writing desk for my son's birthday. He doesn't really need one, but I promised my daughter I'd make her a vanity table/desk for her birthday, so that meant my son would have to have one, too. (FYI, the project was completed a little while ago, so it's already on my Instagram, see below)
As usual, this is a 100% hand tools project, not even a battery powered drill.
This will be a series, but not an extensive one. In this first part, I rough cut the main case components: the 4 legs and 3 main rails.
If there is interest, I'll make some sketchup plans, but in reality, it's not very necessary.

Your knowledge confidence and expertise grow with each new piece you build. Good to see you're not wasting your efforts doing repetitive things without true craftsmanship.

That's a really nice piece of furniture your making there. Great to see a piece of furniture being made that will last.

I appreciate that! I love simplicity in what I make, and I do tend to overbuild, but here’s hoping it will last a good long time!

So do they. I’ve been a woodworker for many years. I make mistakes every day!

@@3badattitude I hope no one ever thinks I'm trying to come off as perfect, because I'm FARRR from it. But with that said, I already make long enough videos without going back and showing mistakes and how I fix them. Especially since they are soo frequent! HAHA!

I love the design of this piece. I only wish I hadn't made something similar a couple months ago, because you've got me questioning the longevity of my design in comparison!

Thanks but seriously wouldn’t worry! Like i said, I have a young child that I was worried about, but I could have simplified some things for sure.

Coming together beautifully!! I love seeing a proper internal structure being made, so educational. Lots of good tips in this one. Thank you! If I may ask, when you put text overlay on the video, could you make it stay for a couple seconds longer? For the non-native speakers ;)

@@Maseko66 Truly, thanks for your kind words. I absolutely love working by hand. It is very much like a puzzle. In fact, my first ever piece of "fine" furniture was built like a puzzle that can be flat packed. Anyway, I hope you are doing well!
