The wild thing about the Kerri Colby and Alyssa Hunter thing was: Kerri arguably didn’t even deserve to be in the bottom. She was fine in the actual challenge, yet they threw her in the bottom. If anything, it was Jorgeous who should’ve been in the bottom. Jorgeous also could’ve beaten Alyssa to that J-Lo song. It reminded me a lot of Shuga Cain in the magic challenge on Season 11, as well as Jarvis Hammer in the Monsters of Rock challenge on Dragula Season 5. None of them deserved a bottom placement, but lost the lip-sync. And yet they kept Kerri, which isn’t TOO TOO bad since she made such great TV and had good points and messages (which I guess inspired her mother to come on and win the very next season). But she did lose against Alyssa.

This is exactly why I thought too, Kerri didn’t deserve the bottom, but they definitely wanted to see her lip sync in the dress. I don’t think they had any intention of sending Kerri home no matter how the lip sync went lol

@@ellies.4781 I'd say BlackBerri. Her outfit wasn't even finished (like the wig was missing and all), and it just looked pretty crafty compared to everyone else's. It looked like something from a Drag Race Drag On A Dime design challenge. With Jarvis, at least there was a solid idea of what he was going for, as I could see David Bowie (as what was said), Alice Cooper, and Tobias Forge from GHOST. They seemed to comment more on the color choices than anything, but I'd rather an unusual color choice over an outfit that's incomplete (even with the BB's seemingly doing backflips and cartwheels to explain why BlackBerri wasn't going to be in the bottom that week). And note: this isn't to knock BlackBerri as a drag artist. She seems very sweet in person, and she deserved the win and many of the high placements she got (although I would've had her high for the Garbage Pail Kids challenge instead of the Woods challenge). In this challenge, though, she was one of the worst, and I would've had her in the bottom over Jarvis.

I thought Elliott won that lipsync hands down, and I don’t even like her😭 Lala was good in some parts, but I feel that she didn’t give it 100% in this Lipsync. Also Elliott cemented her win by pointing at Lala during the “ain’t no competition” line.

I agree. That lipsync is the only standout positive thing I remember about Elliott. She devoured it. Lala was good, but I think her hair was messing her up, too, by falling into her face.

I've seen this before but I think its just what Bebe had planned. Remember she won in her season after removing her wig and wasn't a big watcher of the show after her season so didn't really have any reason to think it was a bad idea

I do agree, much as I love Kasha, who is a local queen to me. Kasha also messed up some of the lipsync itself and Kandy's slow build worked for the song which has the same build.

The Mhi'Ya/dance queens in general, backlash gets on my nerves because I used to be a dancer and it's extremely hard work. Saying a queen shouldn't win because they did tricks or danced is the same thing as saying a comedy queen shouldn't win Snatch Game or the roast because "They rely on being funny", or saying someone like Nymphia or Q shouldn't win a design challenge because they rely on their looks. Ru and production made lipsyncing for your life the rule so if dancing and doing tricks is your strong suit, then yes, you have an advantage because that's your thing just like the girls that know how to sew or are rich/well connected have an advantage on the runway or comedy queens/actors have advantages on those challenges and getting more screen time and fans from confessionals. Stop discounting the dancers like it somehow isn't valid when they clearly body the one they're up against.

Well yes and no. If it's a lip sync for your life it's ok to go out and perform. But if all you're doing is just all these tricks and we can't see your lips, it's no longer a lip sync competition, it's a dance off

If the tricks fit with the song and they're still lipsyncing they should not have those tricks treated as gimmicks just like any other talent but that's usually how it is. Like the Mhi'Ya situation, this was true vs Plasma for example. Mhi'ya lipsynced and turned out tricks that fit while Plasma looked frantic and also did not dance or perform better than Mhi'Ya to that song but people tried to downplay the flips and tricks as cheap gimmicks. That's very disrespectful to dancers that train just as hard at what they do as comedians, actors, singers, etc.

I only bring this up NOT for this specific example, but rather examples like Valentina vs Nina or Mirage vs a Geneva, where people will deliberately go through delusions thinking girls who don't know the words are justified to stay just because they danced better (that last part especially goes for the Mirage vs Geneva lip sync) 😊

@@championanthony7643 Yeah, sometimes it's general favoritism but, I think dancing and stunts are as much a part of a lipsync as the lip syncing but it feels very common for viewers to disrespect dance because they want someone that can't dance to stay. I 100% agree though, of you're just dancing and the lip sync is not happening then you failed the test because that's a requirement for it to even be a lip sync, I specifically mean queens that lip sync well and ripped the stage dancing. Just like sewing, acting, comedy, Snatch Game, all the queens know they'll have to lipsync and they can all take some dance/gymnastics classes before they go.

There are cases where the finale lipsync does work as a decider (UK S4 and S5 being prime examples where the top two are so close that it works as a deal-breaker), but if it's just a formality and makes no difference to the result (AS7) then it undermines everything.

Wouldn’t deciding the winner of a whole season off of one lipsync actually be the thing that undermines everything? I agree that they shouldn’t even do the lipsync as a formality and just crown the winner they want, but you have it mixed up lol.

I like the finale lip sync as like a victory lap that doesn’t really matter but a nice way to close out the season. I think it doesn’t work when they start putting some actual competitive value to it, like in AS7. If they had just done a “Monet, Jinkx, you’re the top two and will lip sync” and then crowned Jinkx no one would’ve been bothered.

Amanda did better, the controversy is if it was to save Q on track record then they could’ve kept plasma, if it was on lipsync then Amanda and M’hiya the problem is judging inconsistency

Imo, the Asttina VS Tia lipsync, not only did I find Tia more entertaining, but Asttina spent the whole time she was there saying she could do moves that nobody else has done and then the lipsync comes and while it was good, was basic compared to what she was bragging she could do. I think ultimately, she sent herself home

The really last lipsync for the crown usually doesn't matter. I'm not talking about the first rounds (like Shea vs Sasha) but the final final one (like Sasha vs Peppermint). Had the crown been given based on the last lipsync, queens like Detox, Kennedy, Monét (in AS7), Yvie (in QOSDADHH) and Kandy (is AS8) would have won. Ru either crowns the one that was stronger throughout the season, or the one she just likes best.

Yvie Vs Rajah was the biggest upset for me. Rajah’s a phenomenal performer and had a better track record, but I thought Yvie won that lip sync hands down. She’d spoken about how her EDS is worsening, and she’s not sure how much longer she’ll be able to keep dancing for. Some cynics might dismiss that as a sob story, but she gave that lip sync her all. She danced her ass off and I imagine she must have been exhausted and in so much pain afterwards. On top of that, it wasn’t until I’d watched it a few times that I noticed Yvie’s platinum wig matched Annie Lennox’s hair in the Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves video. Then when she did the bald cap to wig reveal, her wig was the same colour as Annie’s hair in the Sweet Dreams video (arguably her most iconic look). I thought that was incredible attention to detail. I think it would have been fitting if she’d won the runner up prize money, not just because I think she deserved it, but also so she could go out on a high if she’s not going to be able to dance much any more.

To my understanding, the two lipsyncs from S16 aren't that controversial individually, but rather when taken together. A lot of people felt that Amanda was better in the lipsync but Q was saved because of her track record; then Plasma was eliminated despite being a clear frontrunner, and people were like, "Oh, so I guess track record doesn't matter any more." IMHO in the case of Q vs Amanda it was a close enough call to take the track record into account, but saving Plasma would have been very clearly rigged, and as you said about Trixie vs Pearl, it would have rendered the whole concept of LSFYL meaningless.

The thing is, for me Q lost HARD to Amanda. Q's performance was by far the worst lip sync performance of that season. I think lip syncs NEED to matter, and therefore, Q should have gone home. I'm not mad about Plasma going home.

I'm shocked Jasmine Kennedie isn't on the list. She won every single lipsync in the lipsync competition for me. People weren't mad about her elimination only because it was her time to go (which made the whole episode pointless in my opinion they could have sent her home after snatch game and be done with it)

I mean for me the whole layout of the lipsync tournament is so unfair and rigged. You should let the best lipsyncers lipsync at the end for the win and not vice versa. It was Jasmines time to go but it’s still bitter. And with Jax it was just altogether shitty.

I must be in the minority but I think Trixie hands down won the final AS3 lip sync. She sold the song to me and made me feel the emotion in it, the way she's shaking and almost crying during the final chorus, it just gets to me.

I think if she had done the wig thing properly (lose a lot of hair and end up nearly bald or bald) I'd agree. It is also that Kennedy was giving interpretive dance and you cannot really judge that well when you can barely see it.

Totally agree it's a lipsync, not a dance off! Kennedy is a fierce and amazing performer but Trixie nailed the emotion and it really spoke to me. You can't judge someone's lipsync when for half the performance she's twirling and dancing all across the stage - it was a beautiful performance, but didn't match the energy of the song IMO.

I mostly agree with all of this, aside from Adore vs Trinity, which was a clean Adore win for me. Then all the S13 lipsyncs I had the polar opposite opinion on. Denali, Elliott and Tina won by a landslide for me. Also, Tia vs Asttina was also a pretty clear decision for me. Tia surprised me big time, she wanted it so bad and Asttina seemed like she could win doing whatever, so she didn't try that hard. And to answer the question of what was the most controversial lip sync win: For the "early" seasons it was Pearl vs Trixie, for modern day, it's Alyssa vs Kerri.

Sethlas on drag race España lost some. Some were sloppy, messy, and desperate. Jinkx and Monet is another. Monet won that last lip sync. Jinkx looked like a rookie queen on Halloween next to Monet on that last lip sync.

Time to add Morphine vs Sapphira to this list.. and I would say also Loulou Velvet vs La Veurve (why do a final challenge AND a lip sync tourney in the same episode... although the right queen won in the end)... also funny how record didnt matter between Marina and Hannah (hannah ended that lip sync so strong that I immediately was worried)... but record mattered in Morphine and Sapphira.

It's a consolidated rule in Drag Race that a lipsync for the crown doesn't really matter, it's just a technicality and you can still win the season even if you lose that final lipsync

Girl, yall need to take off the rosed colored glasses with Lala and the bias colored ones against Elliott. We dont like her sure but she did so so much better than Lala in that lipsync, yall just want a justification to not give Elliott anything because of her controversies. Back in the day, I defended Pearl winning over Trixie. Today, though, I think Pearl should have gone home. With Tia vs. Astina, though, I feel like Astina underperformed and gave 75% of what she could do whereas Tia gave 125%. Now, you could say that Astina's 75% is still better than Tia's 125%. I don't necessarily agree, but I see the point. However, I think Ru can tell when a performer isn't giving it their all, and she does not like that, which I agree with.

In my mind track record shouldnt matter at all when deciding who's staying because then what are we doing the lip-sync for, so when people say "Q "kept up" with Amanda so it made sense", well girl keeping up aint winning, and yes maybe Amanda didnt do a STOMPING performance, but imo it was a decent one and the best she could do with that song, so thats why i feel like im being gaslit into thinking she didnt win like 😭😭 And mind you Q's one of my favorites like how more objective can i be about this 🧍🏻‍♀️ Imo people are still blinded by Amanda's storyline that "oh she's not ready or at the same level so its her time" like they mentioned multiple times during the video

I think for the same reason you guys feel it is fine jinx won is why mya should have gone home. Everything shouldn't be solely based around the final lip sync. Like if binaca was on a season with mya and was in the top the previous weeks, should she go home the first time she is in the bottom vs mya in the bottom every week!? That is cooking down drag for one thing to matter over anything else. That being lip syncing. Mya seems very lovely but she has been only on the struggle bus since the start. Her and amanda were the far lasts for development in drag.

Denali said that she wanted to put on heels but production told her to keep her skates on. She didn't actually plan on lip syncing in the skates she wanted to wear heels.

I think the reason so many people feel weird about the Amanda v. Q lipsync is that the episode was edited like she was going to do really well in the challenge and stick it to Plane... and then she sooort of did badly, but she didn't bomb badly enough for it to be a definitive "that was awful" (obvi the runway was hot garbage, but whether or not the runway counts is apparently dependent on astrology, Rus menstrual cycle, and predictions made by Walter Mercado) and obviously they did that to be a fake out, but all it did for me was make for a weird, disjointed episode that felt extremely unsatisfying? and so then when Q also kind of bombed the lipsync you're left with this weird, Amanda should have won that energy because the episode was telling you the whole damn time that Amanda was gonna do well. That's my take, anyways.

I know this is a controversial take as it was before Roxxxy revolutionised the wig reveal, but I would put BeBe Vs Ongina on this list. That was the first episode of Drag Race I ever saw, and I stumbled upon it by chance whilst flicking through the channels. I thought it was one of the most fabulously bonkers things I’d ever seen (a drag spoof of ANTM hosted by RuPaul? How novel! Little did I know then how huge it would become). I had no point of reference as it was season 1 and I hadn’t seen any of the previous episodes, but I remember thinking that BeBe’s lip sync was so over the top and reeked of desperation. When she pulled her wig off it felt like a train wreck moment to me. I was so shocked when RuPaul said she had to take a moment as she hadn’t made up her mind, then came back and told BeBe she’d defied her expectations by outshining Ongina. I think BeBe is an absolutely iconic queen and a deserving winner over all, but I thought she should have been sent home over Ongina.

I agree that Mihya won against Plasma but I think she lost her first lipsync to Megami. I feel like I'm the only one who wasn't shocked at how well Megami did in the lipsync battle royale we've just seen, because I felt like she gave great face in her first lipsync against Mihya on the show. I knew she was that girl!

Monet was what some people call a situational winner on AS4. The Fandom are still upset because of Manilla being sent home, Valentina and Mo Heart not making it further and Trinity not being crowned a solo winner. With that being said had Monet been on a future AS season then theres no doubt she would've slayed and been crowned cleanly. But that isn't the case in this timeline so production would never let Jinxx, a fan favourite winner lose to Monet, a controversial AS winner.
