Tunisia's Ons Jabeur became the first Arab player to win a WTA 1000 title with victory at the 2022 Mutua Madrid Open!
Wins over Jasmine Paolini, Varvara Gracheva, Belinda Bencic, Simona Halep, and finally Jessica Pegula secured a second career title for the No.8 seed in her signature style.

I hope Ons Jabeur will soon replace my early-retired favourite player Ash Barty. Someone must stop the unstoppable Iga Swiatek post Barry’s retirement, and I hope that someone is Ons Jabeur .

They are certainly stylistic cousins, Ash and Ons - how I wish they'd faced off before Ash retired! Ons and Iga, if Ons rises to the occasion of becoming a regular contender for the biggest titles, could be a scintillating rivalry, one for the ages!

@@sugarspice4051 😀😀 nothing is wrong with Iga. In English we have something called “figure of speech”. Iga is unstoppable since Ash left, so saying “Iga has to be stopped” is figure of speech. It’s not like there’s something wrong with her. Of course Iga is awesome and well deserved winner. Couldn’t agree less.

She is the true magician. Hsieh is too casual in her game but every single drop shot from Jabeur is precisely calculated, well-planned, and executed perfectly. Unlike Hsieh and Radwanska, she is physically strong. It's difficult to beat a strong player who also has great hand skills.

One of my favorite players. I wish her all the best. However Iga is now No.1. 4 tournaments won in a row. This is a great achievement.

@@hussTennis haha, yeah she was phenomenal, rocketing career in only three years and brought home 3 Grandslam titles. Honestly, we expect more of GS trophies to bring home from Barty, because the last time we had GS trophy was Sam Stosur 11 years ago. Now we don’t have any other girls we can expect to bring home any title at all, let alone a GS. So, I understand you very well, mon ami 😀

Great! I, for one, would like to see many more players from Africa and Asia participating in these tournaments. However, preparing and maintaining proper courts for all-round access, frequently replacing foreign-produced scuffed balls, acquiring foreign-produced high-tech racquets, installing foreign-produced electronic devices, setting up training facilities-the bric-a-brac associated with the game-is too expensive for struggling nations which have other priorities

@@samirbenaissa8166 Marvellous! Why not? If Tunisia keeps on producing world class players there would be strong motivation to pursue the dream. However, even more, this could also be the open door for players from other places. Imagine the wealth of physical talent that would greatly enrich the game beyond its current boundaries
