Actually she does. There are a lot of African Americans who do not know the culture and history of Afro Latinos. I think your comment is very condescending and it attempts to disregard the history and culture of Afro Latinos. They DO NOT share the same culture as AFRICAN AMERICANS. Are they of African descent? Yes they are. However, having the same skin color does not mean you have the same culture. Even in the United States of America African Americans in the north have different cultures and African Americans in the south. Nowhere in this video did she say that she was not black. You need to go back and listen to the video and comprehend what she is saying. Stop putting your personal perspectives and narratives on how a person views their own culture and history. And this is coming from me a person of African American descent who knows how to appreciate other cultures while taking pride in my own. Her talking about her race and ethnicity doesn't affect me because I know who I am.

@@TheOnlyLadyBella most black Americans already know this. The problem is that some Afro Latinos would rather identify with their white counterparts, such as Enrique Tarrio. I understand what you're saying about being culturally different because a lot of us "African Americans" don't like nor do we claim the term. We culturally feel very far removed from Africa. Y’all confused af. When Europeans relocate to America they just want to be White. Same for Asians. They accept being that one thing although they are diverse. But Black peoples from Latin countries want to be so specific as to not be deemed the same as foundational Black Americans. It is sad. "Black" is not a race but a social identity. Latinos have various ethnic backgrounds that are mostly Iberian (Spanish & Portugal), indigenous peoples of the Americas, Africans and sometimes Arabs and Chinese depending on the country. "Black" is a label given by Europeans to describe dark to black skin peoples of West, Central and South Africa, Aboriginal Australians, Melanesians and Andaman Islanders. What African Americans and Afro-Latinos have in common is the history of discrimination, food culture like the way mofungo in Puerto Rico being similar to FuFu and occasional similar cultural customs in dance and hairstyles.

the misunderstanding as an Afro-American I believe when it comes to afro latinos is that many of the black contributions to your respective countries are either whitewashed or ignored. For example, the popular Latin dance Salsa we had to actively research that it was created by African slaves, but what has been marketed to us Americans is that's a sexy Latin dance that fair-skinned Latinos or white Americans do. so a lot of time as black Americans (outside of major cities) we’re surprised to see black ppl from these countries with their own cultural contributions a lot of time your image and voices are hidden behind the more acceptable fair-skinned face of your fellow countryman.
