In Logic Pro, and many other DAWs, we have the option of using a stereo instance of a plugin, or a dual mono instance. But what does that even mean? Is there a difference? And is it going to change your track significantly?

I'm working on an orchestral mix right now and my private instructor suggested for me to look into dual mono *on my stereo bus* because everything in my mix is very wide (due to the sample libraries I'm using which mimic the placement of instruments in an orchestra). I was using Ozone's Vintage Limiter and Maximizer on the stereo bus, both of which were working in stereo, so when the percussion (which was mostly left) hit, it would affect the right-hand side, which happened to be where the melody was during that time. Fun stuff! And thanks for the video!

Dual mono on your stereo bus will definitely have an effect on the stereo image when compressing. I can see how with orchestral music, where full sections (string, brass etc) maybe be panned to one side to emulate how they are on stage. Food for thought!
