Coming this year from France, WWE Backlash follows up a thrilling WrestleMania with a short and sweet big event featuring Cody Rhodes defending the WWE Universal Championship against AJ Styles in the battle of one former Bullet Club leader and another guy who was in Bullet Club (but not the leader) ;)
In other action, Damian Priest defends the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Jey Uso in a match where both competitors have some faction issues before and after. Bayley hopes to keep her Women's Championship while The Kabuki Warriors run into the buzz saw that is Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair. The show also opened with the New Bloodline lead by Solo and his tag team partner, former New Japan star and Bullet Club original Tama Tonga, against RKO, the team of Kevin Owens and Randy Orton. The Bloodline would have yet another surprise for us during this opening brawl.
This is my review of WWE Backlash 2024.

European crowds really enchance the show. Even the matches, that don't seem that interesting, you end up being more invested in them because of how the crowd reacts.

The biggest surprise to me in that match was Cody no selling a burning hammer. Things like that are what will make people sour on Cody really quickly. What I don't understand is the WWE has banned so many moves but yet they allow a burning hammer which is known as the most dangerous move to pull off. Even Kenta Kobashi in Japan only did the move a few times because of how dangerous it is.

To be fair Kobashi dropped them right on their head so it was pretty fucked up. If you look at AJs you can see him protecting Cody's head and neck... unlike Kobashi lol

Little known fact, AJ Styles was never the leader of Bullet Club, Karl Anderson was. Anderson was the one who announced AJ, announced Kenny Omega, brought in Luke Gallow, struck the deal with Peter and created the Tokyo Pimp, AJ was just the champion and the biggest star, he was basically The Rock in the Nation of Domination.

Idk but Cody vs AJ felt like a NJPW Tokyo Dome bout with all the reversals and fighting spirit. Not 5 star, not rating it, just intense probably due to the crowd I noticed.

I like a smaller card as well. It's easier to remember every detail of 5 matches than 10 matches with different lengths. BTW, Cody Rhodes was like a Major Ge

Jade's top seemed to have broke halfway through the match, which was a momentum killer.

This is easily one of the best wrestling crowds in history. Loved the energy. It enhanced the emotion and magnitude of the event. WWE really feels like they’re on another level. The fact that the product is actually good just makes it even better.

been a fan of GOD since 2015, absolutely love but they did in the Civil War bullet Club storyline with the creation of fighting squad in NJPW and Now finally seeing them here ❤

It would have been a good/decent PLE were it not for THAT INSANE crowd!!!! They were over-the-top enthusiastic and made the matches much more fun to watch. Some of the matches were, in it of themselves, were decent. The best match was the RKO vs Bloodline match, because it was a street fight, and was the most exciting. The AJ/Cody match was good, but not measurable. I guess WIll Ospreay has us all spoiled now. The Women's Tag Team match got weird and discombobulated. But the crowd ate all up anyway. A North American crowd would not have been as gracious. Good PLE overall.

WWE fans have been lamenting how trivial the Superkick has become in wrestling but they’ll shrug off Cody kicking out of a Burning Hammer at 1 lmaoo

I mean to counter that point The Burning Hammer doesn’t have that significance in wwe as a move tho. Now if Cody kicked out at 1 to a tombstone for example then that would be pretty crazy.

Crowd was good. But the constant singing and sometimes ignoring the spots because they had to finish the song. Specifically in the main event, got old quick.

A couple empty spots? Bruh the show was a legit sell out even the hardcam section was flooded, also the tickets started at 300 bucks (way too much), but yeah they had fun I guess.
