> 0:00 Intro Begins with a C5 (power chord), with an added #4 added above 0:18 First riff enters [7/8 2/4],[7/8 2/4], [10/8 2/4], [10/8 2/4] 0:34 Transition to first theme, features dissonant chords, very complicated rhythmic patterns > 0:56 5 against 4 polyrhythm (Theme 1), with diminuendo 1:12 5 against 4 continues in background, with contrasting theme (theme 2) on top (11/8) 1:23 Progressive layering and variations over theme 2 2:02 Theme 3 enters again, with the minor third motif emphasized across each variation. This motif can be seen as construction of various elements which have occurred throughout the piece, and this motif sticks for the remainder of the song 2:23 Rhythmic slowdown while varying theme 3, still emphasizing the minor third Cadence fig. 1 3:13 Climax figure using the whammy bar, whammy pedal 3:22 Wash of sound (Sonic Visualizer can show a clear shape being made in the oscillator) 4:02 The wash continues, with subtle blast beats added underneath 4:27 Retransition (reverse of rhythmic procedure at 2:23)

Saw them open for Between the Buried and Me in Tampa. They BOTH were great! Toward the end of the show BTA's guitarist grabbed the mic & told the crowd that they had no place to crash. He asked if anyone could put them up for the night. Now that's a rock band!

Man, I'm shocked to see how many people don't get this band. These guys rule. This IS structured music. This IS melodic music. It's just incredibly dynamic and inventive. It isn't exciting that a band is doing such out there stuff? I don't get the hate, at all. I'm completely blown away that so many people dislike this group.

This is basically what happens when you mix Death Metal and Jazz..... So intense, so artistic.... They shred all over the place, but with purpose, not wankery at all....I love it. They even have the balls to throw a big spacey new-age sounding breakdown section in there. It paints so many pictures, though most of them are very strange. I think I'm a fan.

i think it takes someone with an ear for music to actually appreciate this. this might not catch your ear like lil wayne or whatever it is but these guys actually have talent. remembering all of that would be intensely hard, its extremely progressive and off time. i dont think it sounds all that great but i love it because i know how much these guys must know about music to be able to play this kind of stuff.

Charlie ... YOU ARE GOD :) The studio version of this tune kills so damn hard. It might be my all-time favorite Arctopus tune. And I hope your career is going well. You are one seriously murderous drummer, man. Love your work in BS, too. (And IMHO, you blow Weasel Walter away :)
@GmorksAwakening15 жыл бұрын
Anyone seeking a convinced mind that this band is incredible, just listen to the Nano-Nucleonic Cyborg Summoning CD and Skullgrid by these guys....and a live performance if your lucky. Seriously....this is a musical gem of our time.
@RemingtonRobertsdrummer15 жыл бұрын
Ive really only listened to their album skullgrid but I think their songwriting is fine, I have definately felt emotion from some of their songs, and its very trippy.They do have direction,and they do repeat certain things, but in a very particular, unique way.The point of this band is that theyre making interesting songs that take an immense amount of talent to play and remember. it will be hard to listen to every day if you dont have the ear for it but at least appreciate it for the art it is

its a warr guitar, which is a stringed instrument with both sides of the sonic spectrum, sort of. its pretty much a guitar and a bass put together that you tap on

@stripgaga seems like this genre is beyond what your mind can ever imagine, that's why you can't understand it. these guys are really avant-garde, and about experimenting beyond the limits of regular music, even when it comes to grindcore or death
@nndlchModi13 жыл бұрын
now if rock generally has any future, this is probably a glimpse of it.
@Riffmaster6916 жыл бұрын
Everybody's talking about their side projects but nobody's mentioned the drummer's other band. Blotted Science, they're amazing technical progressive instrumental metal with Watch Tower/Spastik Ink's Ron Jarzombek.

@PaleHorse7715 жыл бұрын
Just because you aren't used to a type of music (or music redefined), don't say it's complete garbage. My band plays more hardcore/groove metal, but I think these guys are AMAZING for coming up with a style that is completely theirs in a world where music is rapidly drowning in cookie-cutter bands. I think we can all agree that these guys do something new. When something is new,WOW. How refreshing to hear something that doesn't conform to what the general populace would call musical.
@paulrawnerve15 жыл бұрын
behold the arctopus are absolutely geniuses, technically, inventively, song writing wise and for how tight they are. this is one of those times where there is no argument about that, and anyone who doesn't like them simply just doesn't understand them. the person who is a musician but then says about anti-melody not stirring emotions!! what the!? it works for me fine.
@himsaad71415 жыл бұрын
i fucking love this band progessive is the way of the future and its so closely related to some of the oldest forms of music. the fact they dont go intro verse chorus verse chorus brdge chorus outro is so much more art and music then most other shit u hear these days most people with common intelligence will never appreciate this. it takes imagination and talent to write this so open ur eyes if u can.
@GodinSDXTguitars15 жыл бұрын
That song is the inventor of all Math Metal. I have the Moving Pictures record on vinyl.

I like the music. I'm glad to be able to see this song performed (its one of my favorites of theirs) - also check out Blotted Science. And if you hate this music... oh well, too bad.
