This story arc really highlights how both of the villains are trying to purge themselves of this kindness in their old self. Is it in pursuit of more power? By the end of the series though only Ling Fei can truly admit to her evils. I suppose she’s forced to admit it. But there is no higher power to do that to the Emperor, so he gets away from it all with a free conscience. He is free to mourn for Ruyi as though he shouldn’t be the guiltiest of them all.

She is vety smart as a quick learner knowing how pitiful these concubines are: no child, no lust, no ambition to take that high rank in that harem.

It's unutterably hard to see Ling Yunche like this... But it's the truth of life... Unfortunately, bad things very often happen to good people.

It means ruyi not really important to him. Compared to his anger when he knew ruyi was the one who caused of infertility of consort rong. He slapped ruyi and didn't visit ruyi for almost a year. I don't understand why I keep commenting maybe becaused of so much hatred of what was happened to empress. She died when no one knows and alone byherself.
