Animated things actually have an ability called Antimagic Susceptibility that basically says if you try to dispell it, it has to make a con save or fall unconscious for a minute, so while you could dispell them, it wouldn't be permanent (although things animated by a spell may be different than by an NPC). Dispell Magic is meant more for getting rid of spells, and generally doesn't work as well on anything else, depending on the DM. Even if trying to dispell a magic item, there's more precedent with things like Remove Curse for spells (at least of this level) being unable to permanently effect magic items.

Animate Object lasts for 1 minute and requires concentration. Therefore it could not be Animate Object animating these objects, as it would not trigger under these circumstances.

@@TonkarzOfSolSystem could still work with glyphs of warding (spells which require concentration last for the full duration if cast via glyph, and glyphs last indefinitely until dispelled or triggered)

I like magic in DnD, some of my favorite and most enjoyable characters have been wizards. However, a problem with magic is the creativity. A lot of times it promotes creativity, which is of course a good thing, but it also stumps creativity. Some players, which sometimes includes myself, use magic in a repeative and straight forward way to deal with problems. For example, dangerous cave portal out, a castle wall fly over it, 30 goblins fire ball. To be fair there is technically no problem as long as they follow the rules, but the problem is that this straight forward method may be boring and unfun to the other players

The whole world collapses in on itself as the GM is dispelled. A moment later the GM realizes he isn't fictional nor is he magic causing the world to warp back into existence. A pulse of energy ripples through every plane as every single creature in it briefly experiences oblivion, for most it felt like waking up again despite them already being fully concoius, and was quickly forgotten. For beings of higher consciousness though, this could not go unexamined. A minute after the blip in reality, every god who managed to figure out the wizards location casts Disintegrate at 9th level to ensure the safety of their own realms.

Wouldn't counter spell still work since it says "you can cast this SPELL using this trait" usually that means the spell is at a set value, but it should still be counter able, id think

@@stickytim64 Well no, like I said the innate abilities are NOT 'you can cast this spell using this trait' That said, counterspell is still plenty useful because instantaneous spells are very common, dispel magic is the thing that gets gibbed most of the time by something being technically not a spell.

Or you could have them fight magic resistant enemies with more martial prowess than magic. The enemies use actual tactics and don’t die in a couple hits, or have it to where when they absorb a type of magic they get healed instead.

Also, to dispell magic of a spell of a higher level than your cast of the dispell magic, you would need to make a series of arcana checks, so let's use as an example the animated tavern encounter from this video, animated object was conjured as of 6th level to animate 4 chairs and 1 table, the wizard goes and cast dispel magic with a 3rd level spell slot, to be successful he would need to consecutively pass a DC 14, 15 and 16 ability checks (using your spellcasting ability) to dispell it. And if he decides to use a spell slot of higher level he deserves to nuke the encounter

@@anthonynorman7545 here, let me quote the spell description of dispell magic. "For EACH spell of or higher on the target, make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 10 + the spell's level." So if you cast dispell magic at 3rd level to dispell a 6th level spell, you need to make 3 consecutive checks. I would say dispell magic is pretty balanced if you don't ignore raw
