WHOA! I currently have two 1987 XV700's in pretty much the EXACT same situation. Since the season is pretty much over I am making this my winter project. I should be able to build one really nice complete bike fairly easily with a motor swap, and then focus on really getting into the other, which has way more issues. Glad to see your still doing videos max. Had to swap a shadow vt700 engine by myself in my 84 model. This one goes out ill just probably bore it out to a 750. Only reason why i hang on to it is it was my brother in laws/bestfriends bike that passed away. Plan doing a frame up restore on it at some point.

Downdraft carbs on virago are touchy but worthwhile when running correctly with the yics. 1982 500s scream for a vtwin

Wanting to build a virago cafe racer. Have a cx500 I could build but really love the look of the virago once converted. I know there are issues especially with the starter on the 80s 750 and 920, but I think i may try and find the 1100. Pretty sure it will bolt up to the 81 through 83 frame. Hopefully will find out soon.

You're not dead!

I recently tried swapping this way. Too hard. The better easier way is to use centerstand on concrete and a ratcheting strap over the frame and under the engine to lift and guide in place. I kept a hydrologic jack underneath when lowering as the ratchet straps tend to unwind to quick. Also note: the xv1100 has a flange on the engine that you have to work up and over part of the frame. If you just put bottom bolt in and expect the engine to roll up in place, it wont. The flange catches at the frame. So you have to lift it up and guide flange over. The strap works well. Also check that you havent pinched any wires before bolting. Dont ask how I know.

Now, I don't mean to teach you how to suck eggs and I know sweet FA about these particular bikes, but I did notice that the front u j split from the drive shaft in such a way that it was perhaps possible to allow the u j yokes (front / rear) to become misaligned with each other when reassembled (that is, the spline being able to separate between the two u js). Normally if the front yoke is not perfectly aligned with the rear it will usually cause a lot of vibration in the shaft when ridden.

Hello there, i have a question, i'm maybe getinge a virago 125 98 and i'm wondering if it's possible to change the motor to a 250 because i have heard that some yamaha virago motors that was 125 was achully a 250 motor but whit less drilling, thos holes in the motor was smaller is what im trying to say, dont know what thy are calld... sow im wondering if anny one knows if this is true on the 98, and if its worf it, like is it really that big differens. Im thinking about it bucuse i cant get a mc whit more then 125cc becuse legal resons.. sorry for my english, not my first language.
