It is rare to find anything good at Goodwill anymore! For the past 2 years we might have found 5 total at 4 different Goodwills we visit weekly! The movies are the better find! Our Goodwill stores have 50’s-70’s gospel & other off the wall stuff that was not selling new in the 40’s-70’s!

17:00 I once bought an Empire floor-standing gramophone hand-crank record player from a local antiques mall and the elderly lady that sold it gave me 73 78 rpm records for free which was much appreciated. They were mostly fox -trots, but there were some gems too and even the fox-trot music from the 20's and 30's had a lot of charm. :)

I remember driving past that covered wagon before. It's kind of sad it got damaged. There were a few at the Platte Antique Mall I would have picked up mostly to fill in a few holes...like Al Stewart "Modern Times", Manhattan Transfer "Live" (yes I'm a fan of their music but I don't have that one), Mike Rutherford, Neil Diamond "Stones", Rick Wakeman "Journey to the Center of the Earth", Atlanta Rhythm Section "Champagne Jam", Manheim Steamroller "Fresh Aire 7", Eurythmics "1984", anything by Santana, Missing Persons, UB40 "Little Baggariddim", Solaris, Godley & Creme "Snack Attack" (They are from 10cc), Mad Max, Weather Report. The best ones were in that $2.50 bin. The David Crosby for $5 is excellent price. Quicksilver Messenger Service for $10 is a fair price. I would have had a hey day there for sure. Definitely a gold mine and some excellent finds!

14:55 As much as I love 45's and 78's and have a lot of each, there's nothing more tedious than sifting through them at thrift stores hoping to find some gems (and 78's are so fragile, of course). That's one of the major advantages of LP records or boxed sets that provide artwork for easy recognition and easier digging. :)

I also had a box that i got from an artist that made sculptures from old vacuums, toasters, and all sorts of other space age looking stuff...the box was from his workshop and was labeled "Robot Penises"...and, of course, it was filled with pipes and other things that could be used on his sculptures for a penis. 2:54 Tuco, you might enjoy that 'Excalibur' record which has the classical music used in 'Excalibur' (1981) and if you haven't yet seen the movie, I highly recommend it. That record contains 'O Fortuna!' from 'Carmina Burana' by Carl Orff (a very stirring piece also used in the movie 'The Doors') as well as works by Richard Wagner whose work 'Siegfried's Funeral March' was a perfect choice for the knights battling each other and for the rise of King Arthur's reign. There was also an original score composed by South African-born Trevor Jones who composed scores for 'The Dark Crystal', ' The Last of the Mohicans', etc. and when he was a bit younger, he worked with John Williams on 'Return of the Jedi' to work out various orchestrations. However, the Trevor Jones score for 'Excalibur' is a bit hard to find on CD (but not on KZfaq) and was only officially available in very limited quantities. You mentioned that you loved Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring', so you may also enjoy this 'Excalibur' record even though the styles of the music are very different. :)

It amazes me that no matter what thrift/Goodwill in the USA that you find yourself in, you're gonna find so many of the same $1 bin records. Looking at some of the prices at that antique mall, it's easy to see that the sellers made ZERO effort to actually find out how much their records are worth. How long have those Ronstadt LPs been sitting there, do you think?! Makes you wonder about the value of the other stuff they're selling.
@VinylHunter

Yeah! There were clearly making up prices! So many of those records can be had easily for $1!!! I know what you're saying about dollar bin records! I've watched lots of other people's digs, and they look just like mine! Hell, often even the store looks the same! The reason you see SOME of the records a lot is because they were very popular...but, the reason you see some of the other records a lot is because they were cheap! You should have got Al Stewart, Tuco. He’s done better LPs than Year Of The Cat.

That's the only song of his I've ever heard. I'll have to look into him further.

Nice variety of stuff in this one. Falco! Missing Persons! UB40! M! Bernadette Peters would be worth it just for the lovely Vargas cover. Never heard of Joe Sun, but the title song of that album ("Old Flames (Can't Hold a Candle to You)") was co-written by Kesha's mom, and was a hit for Dolly Parton a couple years after that Joe Sun version. Kesha did a cover of it on her fantastic album Rainbow, which also features Dolly Parton. That John Stewart album you passed up twice ("Bombs Away Dream Babies") is pretty cool since it features both Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Not valuable or hard to find, but still worth a listen to anyone who hasn't heard it before, with several very good songs.

I've seen John Stewart records many times before, buy never really knew who he was...just learned he was on Kingston Trio and wrote the song Daydream Believer!!! Kicking myself for not getting Bernadette Peters!

@@VinylHunter Haha... yeah, kinda crazy how most people don't really know John Stewart, but they most definitely know "Daydream Believer"! I think his biggest hit for himself was "Gold," which is on "Bombs Away Dream Babies" (it's one of those songs I think a lot of people would recognize if they heard it... "Oh yeah, I remember that song...").

Believe it or not, I'm a metalhead. I'll be showing plenty of that soon! Voivod, Bathory, Candlemass, lots of post-punk, etc!
