I had the opportunity to go on the Starcruiser in March 2023, and wow it was incredible. I am a huge theme park fan, and this was the best theme park experience I have ever had. I have seen theme parks do incredible things, but this was easily the best. I went with a really good friend who loves Star Wars, and we both had a blast. My friend is not very familiar with theme parks, but he still had a phenomenal time. My family hates Star Wars, but they all loved it. We had the Lieutenant Croy actor change after the first day, but the cast and crew handled it so well. It was such a smooth switch. I have never cried at the end of an experience, I tears up at the end of Starcruiser. I have never had moments where I legitimately believed I was in the story, I had multiple of those moments on Starcruiser. I have a really bad stutter, but the cast and crew were so kind to me and never treated me differently for not being able to talk well. I am beyond devastated to see it go. It doesn’t deserve to go out like this. No wonder the last 3 months sold out in less than a day. Long live the Halcyon.

Brickey, I agree with 95% of this video, but balking at that price tag is not bullying. I am privileged enough to be a Disney adult that used to be a passhole at DL and go to DW a lot. (Going again in a week.) But this was an attraction for the rich. That’s okay. They did a good job. But let’s not pretend it was anything less. I love that they thought BIG and I wish I could have gone, but it was not open to everyone. Keep up the great work, fellow Citizen of Disneyland. ❤️

@lazerbungalow Жыл бұрын
Balking at the price is absolutely fine. It's expensive, and not everyone can go, and it's natural and valid to feel upset about that. But with everyone online taking on an attitude of, "If I can't go, no one can go," and "I speak for everyone when I say it's not worth the price and it deserves to fail," and in general not being able to allow others to be happy-that's where it becomes bullying. The other point that was brought up is that the price sticker is all inclusive-- and those dinners really compete with Disney's Signature restaurants-and that furthermore the cost can be reduced by room sharing. So people trying to reinforce the narrative of it's $5000 for a two night hotel stay with no pool is bullying-both underselling the experience and overhyping the price with such acidity that online readers who haven't done research are forced to agree with you-that's bullying. I've seen several examples of people both online and in real life who, in contrast, have said, "That's so cool, I wish I could go." But they weren't pooing all over the thing because of it. So it's possible to balk at the price and be unhappy about it, while still generally having a positive attitude for the people who are fortunate enough to go. All the nasty online comments saying that it deserves to close because of the price and only the "1%" can go-- that is the bullying.

Before watching th video I wanted to make this comment.... It failed because they catered to one section of Star Wars fans and they tried to shove The Sequel trilogy down our throat and because the price was way to damn high. You have to remember that fans are what keeps these franchises going. They buy the merchandise they go to the movies. They go to the theme parks and yes it is the true fans that know best.

Why does Disney insist on the new trilogy characters when they know the old trilogy will make more? Its an AGENDA. They KNOW they could have revamped with original characters but chose to close it down instead. Come on, man.

Clear, concise, and on point. I have over 40 years of LARP experience, as well as D&D and sci-fi conventions with all their great fun and silliness. The concept of this venue was clear from the start for me. Last year I started saving money with hopes to cruise on the Halcyon in 2024. Unfortunately, that experience won't happen. But it is wonderful you were able to go and make your own experience a story you'll never forget. Way to go! There's a restaurant in town that hosts a live murder mystery event each month. They've been presenting this event without (except for lockfown) interruption for about 20 years now, and it's still a major drawl. So, why couldn't disney do something like that, as you said, perhaps the last 2 weekends of each month. The rest of the time it's a regular hotel. It makes money during off-time, guests like myself who could care less about the parks just go to this during those exclusive dates and have a blast. Win-win all around. Anyway, your video is well presented. Thank you. Hopefully someone in the right position will see this and have an aha moment. Til the spire.

Disney would never succumb to criticism of their product was making money. Means they weren’t profiting, period. Of course it was criticized right out the door, it was insanely expensive. Leaving it only an opportunity for the smallest portion of guests. They still could’ve made this an “expensive” hotel and likely sustained success. Disney also did nothing to inform consumers of price options once rumors leaked. Looked cool tho.

2:35 I 100% agree with the comment that many in the Disney community want to have Disney produce a product like Burger King - i.e. Have It Your Way. Criticism of rides, attractions, and shows should all be based on their merit and creativity, not on what they should have been. I had little interest to attend the experience because it isn't what I wanted. I would have preferred an experience in a Star Wars world that I was familiar with like Tatooine or Naboo. BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT THIS EXPERIENCE WAS! It'll be sad to see it go only because it was such an innovative experience.

Sorry it is 5000 bucks. You cant say “oh if you divide it by the number of people in your family and the number of nights it’s less.your kids aren’t helping you pay. Maybe you can bring a friend and split the cost but 2500 is still rich people money. But it still is going to cost you 5000 bucks. And only rich people have 5000 bucks they can spend on a weekend.

To expand on this - While I have friends and I have family - I don't have any friends or family who are WILLING TO GO - Believe me I've tried to twist every arm I could and my options are simply, "Go alone" or "Go Alone" - All my closest friends and family either aren't interested and can't afford it (or in some cases, a little of both). Problem is there IS NO single person room rate option for the starcruiser - Bookings for a party of 1 pay the 2 person room rate, and the 2 person room rate is $4800 - So yes, based on my situation - It would absolutely be a $5000 hotel stay for me to go - By myself, which is frankly my only option (and being that I'm guessing I'm PROBABLY not the only Star Wars nerd in the universe flying as a single rider - I imagine I'm not alone in this handicap). Of course if you can find a large party to split a suite with, you can get it down to under $1500 a person, but we don't all have a pack of vloggers ready and willing at our disposal to DO THAT (much less more than once).
@jimcampbell

@@curtrapala totally. Personally the only way I could justify it is if it was under 500 bucks and even that would be a one time things and I’d probably never go again. The most I’ve paid for a hotel is like 350 bucks on a special occasion. (I can’t afford the nice Disneyland hotels either obviously, but I could imagine staying at the Polynesian or Disneyland hotel on a really special occasion)

Great video! I understand where you’re coming from. I’m not into Star Wars but I really enjoyed watching your videos of your stay. If I was into Star Wars I know I’d want to stay there. I wish they’d adjust the price so everyone could afford to stay there. As a whole my family is upset with the way Disney is going. It is losing the “magic” and it is losing the “family” feeling. It seems to have started getting worse since the pandemic. In my opinion they are charging more and more to get into the parks but not giving anything new or making the experience/stay better. We used to be able to go to D-Land once or twice a year but now we can only afford to go every year or two. I hope the leadership can bring back the magic. Hope they lower prices, get rid of reservations…Thanks Brickey for your videos!! Hope to run into you sometime.

Disney takes years to create something and KZfaq complainers who have never even been there destroy its reputation in moments. Oh wait..that IS the tend today isn't it. It is easy to complain about something they didn't create, nor couldn't even if they had the funds. Disney's diverse staff on all levels is one to be proud of. As a Floridian, or might I say soon X-Floridian, I've had it with this state. Maybe I'll move to California where Disney and it's staff is respected and appreciated.

Honestly I think one of the core issues is that most people don't want to spend time and money to travel all the way to Disney just to spend their time in their hotel. They want to go to the parks! It's like if I travel to NYC or Tokyo or Paris I wanna see the city. Ultimately a hotel is for rest and recuperation. It's definitely a great and cool concept but it's very niche, requires dedicated time and participation, and detracts from the main reason for going to Disney world, for most people at least.
@SuZQ629

It seems the market for the experience was the super Star Wars fan, one who was very familiar with the canon. We’re there enough of those to keep the hotel viable? And, we’re enough of those willing to be interactive? I think more Americans would rather be spoon fed entertainment than actually participate.

Disney's star wars timeline is something the vast majority of the star wars fans don't like. For comparison, I'm not a star wars fan. I like the original movies, skipped the next ones, watched the Disney ones with little fan fair - meh. Haven't seen any of the cartoon versions, liked mando 1 and have disliked the next star wars series on Disney plus for various reasons and have never owned anything star wars related ever. BUT - when this hotel was announced and more info came out in the concept art and blogs etc I was interested to see how this would turn out. I was looking at budgeting the hotel into my next trip from Australia in addition to the other parks. It sounded cool and something i would enjoy, even though I wasn't a hard core star wars fan. HOWEVER - as soon as that first commercial dropped with that kid, i was out. That was not worth the price just on that ad alone. Then further ads came out and it was not winning me back. Once it opened to guests to film and videos came out of the full experience it still did not win me back. It was still kind of cool, but it's something that should be 3-4 hour dinner experience with cabaret show for $200-$300 per person. If it didn't win a non star wars person over, it sure as hell was going to be a struggle to retain the interest.

If Disney’s media arm wasn’t in terrible shape and activist shareholders weren’t nipping at management’s heals for financial cuts and a seat on the board, I think the hotel would still be open and they would be adjusting to find the sweet spot. The negative fans were definitely annoying, but Bobby I had more to worry about than noise from the peanut gallery. Disney took a creative chance and the combination of missteps and bad timing killed it. I’m glad they did it and hope they continue to push the envelope like Walt did. Personally I’m a lifelong StarWars fan and enjoyed watching people (and Drape) enjoy themselves there, but for some reason I never felt compelled enough to go. Disney has found numerous ways for me to part with my money, but for some reason this project didn’t resonate with enough people to try it initially and for those who did to revisit on an ongoing basis like the other hotels and parks.

I think they should run the shuttle spaceships (box trucks) from Batu to the Star Cruiser for dinner and a show. Only people with dinner reservations would be allowed on the shuttles.. They could be served drinks, shop, mingle with a character or two and experience "Light Speed" in the main Atrium and then continue on into the dining room for the dinner show with Guya. They already have a full menu and a full show. Take out the storyline and let Guya and company sing. Then they shuttle you back to Batu. Have a few showings a day like the "Hoop-de- Doo". Cycle people through at a more reasonable price. The dinner show could also be available from outside the park by using the "shuttle craft " that currently takes you from the Starcruiser parking to the ship. They could even make the last show of the night an "overnight excursion" so they could ger some use out of the rooms. They could very easily salvage this thing. It's already built. They just need to use it differently.

Yup, this was my thought. We did the Starcruiser a few months ago and it was truly an incredible experience - but our family is hard core Star Wars fans, and also comfortable with cosplay, D&D, etc. Not everybody is going to be willing to invest in that (at least right out the gate) so I wish they had been able to offer things like that during the week, and then still keep the 2-day cruises as a premium experiences. The datapad missions in Batuu could also be incorporated somehow - maybe little mini missions, and you could get into the lightsaber training or bridge training, etc.

I think you hit a lot of the right points here, a few we will disagree on, especially about the time period. But I will never forgive the people that cheered for this to fail, I will especially not forgive the people who vitriol about some people’s experience. This is where the toxic Star Wars fandom comes in, I tried to share my experience and was told over and over and over to off myself for simply trying to share my joy I experienced on my cruise. I’m glad I have the SWGSC community online. I wish I could go one more time, we were planning to go back in January and we just don’t have the time between now and September. My fear is it will be a long time before Disney takes another big creative swing as large and magical as this was. Disney made a lot of missteps but the core of the experience was not one of them.

The hotel is just a symptom of their screwup. Sure it might have been fun, but even if I could afford it I was never going to go simply because I can't relate to the brand anymore.

Florida governor didn't help any either. It was expensive, but there wasn't anything like it anywhere else. When you break down the cost compared to the experience and the rarity of it all, I think it was well worth it. I couldn't afford to go there with the economics of Florida, but those who bask it wouldn't know creativity and effort if it shot them in the starboard side with a laser blaster. I admire Disney, especially for standing up to diversity and for upholding the vision that Walt Disney had. If he could see it now, he would be proud of what has been made. From the CEO to the lowest level worker who goes out of their way to please visitors I tip my hat to you. When you can make roleplay seem real, you know you have been successful.

Thank the fu@king Maker! Leave it to Brickey to be the only creator brave and experienced enough to speak the truth about the Starcruiser. This video should be mandatory viewing for anyone who decides to pontificate about this topic without experiencing it. Perfection.

When d23 announced galaxy’s edge and what we were supposedly going to get, some of it ended up at the star cruiser but was promised to us inside Batuu. Yes the price was a bit too much, don’t forget for some. A plane flight to Florida and the side expenses that come with it. Disney promo was horrible! Bob cheap ass in charge at the time, we knew budget cuts were made at the star cruiser. And the last issue was that it was Rey and kylo. Not a fan of the last 3 and definitely was hoping for original trilogy even though we know it was going to be for the newest movies to milk whatever they can. It was more disney than the fans. If disney listened to the fans, that’s disney fault. Disney needs to stop listening to the small percent of fans ranting

Thank you for being so fair. It breaks my heart for the cast members. I know they worked so hard. Like you, I just wish Disney would get back to the original Star Wars. Great video my friend.

I gotta be real, I think you can definitely criticize something with a prohibitive price and you shouldn't have to pay to get the luxury of having an opinion. 🤣

Disney is a business and this hotel room ideas from Galaxy edge and charged us extra them. No one wanted this to be bad but from concept art to building they cheapened many things and it’s really expensive Glad those who went had fun but most people don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on a hotel trip Disneyland was something new and expensive but Walt wanted everyone to come and made prices reasonable and really Disney wasn’t expensive until the Michael Eisner era

I never went to the GSC and the reason that I never went was not only because of the prices but because it SUCKED, nobody wants to be trapped inside a building for no matter how many days it went for just to play a giant role playing video game and the only time you would be able to leave the hotel is go to Galaxy's Edge and ONLY Galaxy's Edge, NOBODY WANTS THAT, people want to go on a vacation and relax and do their OWN THING, not get stuck with a scheduled curriculum of doing what the hotel WANTS you to do, if I want to get stuck in a concrete building with a scheduled curriculum I'll commit a crime and get sent to prison because I know that Prison Facilities are on a set schedule for their prisoners when it comes to using their recreation facilities and other such facilities and their is also the fact that they keep trying to push a trilogy that NO ONE LIKES.

I like how you proved Brickeys point. “I didn’t go and because it SUCKED” is a perfectly stated armchair quarterbacking and EXACTLY what Brickey was saying. He literally said: “You didn’t go. You don’t know.”

@@WindowtotheMagic No, I didn't go because its based around the sequel trilogy in which in fact SUCKED, Kathleen Kennedy kept pushing this fuckup of a trilogy down our throats like a big disgusting chimichanga.
