Nice to get your insight on this. I think you're pretty right. Just as we have fewer blacksmiths and pottery makers, there will probably be fewer traditional artists in the future, but I don't think it will ever go away.

Difference is making music, painting, acting, etc does more than just create things. There are psychological and sociological benefits to those skills. You can argue that smithing, while not a necessity anymore, is now an art form. Increased artistic abilities have shown to improve math comprehension, scientific compression, reading compression, better personal psychology, and the fact that so much of it is collaborative is good for communities and therefore society as a whole. That's the worry about AI becoming the main tool for making art. Smithing as a necessity became obsolete due to the ability to mass produce goods that we needed but now it's an art form that is greatly appreciated so the lack of smithing didn't add to any kind of societal decline.

It's perfect for content creators, individuals or even small businesses that don't have hundreds or thousands to spend on a single B-roll or getting stock footage from shutterstock. Edit: I might start making a crap ton of B-roll and putting them up on shutterstock when SORA is released, lol.

I definitely think this is good enough for pitch-reels... and I actually think also good for pre-viz (in the right hands). The question is - at the moment, a lot of the SORA video's are taking a long time to prompt-engineer and fix in post, at some point, those two actions will be combined. I suspect it's more months than years (and certainly not decades).

One of the best takes on AI tools. You make a good point about skill erosion too- we don't see amazing cathedrals or stone sculptures anymore sadly, and it may be the 2d arts are going the same way 😢
@chiichan3774
@chiichan3774 4 ай бұрын
This skill erosion has already been seen in other industries - take a look at things like blacksmithing today vs back 100 or 200 years ago. However, blacksmiths still exists today, and i think the skill while still niche, is going to remain, because some people still prefer that handcrafted feel for their objects (of course, they have to pay thru the nose for it).

I wonder what the next evolution of CodeMiko will look like, move, and perform with things like AI managed hair physics, skin movement and texture, clothing forms and movement (swishy skirts!), and all the other ways that AI can be brought into utility in animation development that it can probably do right now, but no one or not many people are attempting to push those envelopes. Skeletons IMO have always been wonky with animation, and wouldn't it be nice if skeletons acted like actual factual skeletons, with actual factual muscle groups moving like actual factual muscle groups, and the skin stretching and folding properly like it does naturally, proper whole-body body aware collisions all managed by AI? I dunno. I wonder if technician can invent those things and patent a system so she can own all of animation? :)

The real way to make use of AI generated stuff, is to more or less use them as a guideline and then edit them heavily to become something looking much much more realistic and accurate. That's how I use GPT and image generating AI since they always have some mistakes that need all fixed up. After you use AI content like that, then it becomes more of a medium and less of a "oh this did it for me" sorta like how you can use color altering or filters in photoshop to add that extra depth to an image you make. But yeah it does aide those who cannot do art naturally for one reason or another, or even in the sense of filming/photography. Maybe they just don't have the means of travel or the money for the equipment to do it. In that case AI is amazing and definitely helps those people in every way. But yeah no one should claim AI generated things as their own work, and it should always be "aided by AI" when they heavily edit it because it's still heavily influenced by the AI.

my degree is in games design and I've done motion graphics for 15+ years but I am only excited and obsessed with AI. I bet pros will remain proportionately better 'equipped' but I can't process it really. Who knows. It will be a really high stakes game of cat and mouse between malicious actors and systems made to stop them. Someone described AI and tech innovations like running toward the edge of a cliff to something mesmerising out on the horizon. I'm stuck in that precarious mood. I take comfort from the fact that we still prefer watching humans sweating over Chess or playing video games than watching AI making perfect moves. Surely a lot will be the same eventually. I love watching others opinions on all this, we are probably all wrong!

We're hurtling toward a new paradigm for gaming. Probably not far off. Instead of video games being an executable with assets and an engine and such, the whole world will simply be "imagined" on the fly, frame by frame, by generative AI. Probably with the ability to speak new elements into existence like a Holodeck. "Computer, let's start that level again, but this time I want the enemies to all look like the Foot Clan from TMNT."

Yes and no. Main story-line quests will still be scripted and voiced by humans, or at least, an AI model trained specifically on a single person's voice, however, generic NPC's will have environmentally aware and general AI-generated voices and responses. Basically, it'll come down to whether or not that NPC needs to follow a specific script. Just look at the NVIDIA demo that was released a few weeks ago.

Amazing video. I disagree on some points. I think artists wont be replaced, just the tools they use will change. Someone who can draw, paint or 3d model can get much better results out of ai using img2img and img2vid tools than someone who uses txt2img or txt2vid. I see it the same as when photoshop came about, It will open the door to the art world for more people but those who put time, effort and creativity in to their workflows will get the most recognition and better results. Verry interesting video. if your happy making content like this I would love to see more where you give your opinion on tech and and new tools. 😊

The ethics of AI is what material is used to create the model. It's completely ethical as long as artists allow and give their consent for their art to be referenced. The next step is companies that are almost completely automated need to pay a tax where that money goes directly into 'universal basic income'.
@Ncyphen
@Ncyphen 4 ай бұрын
That would be like denying artists into art museums out of fear that they may use what they see to create their own work. There is legal precedence to the training data being legal, a term called "transformative." Around 10 years ago, Google 1:1 copied books into its search algorithm without the author's or publisher's legal permission and were thusly sued. The courts ruled in favor of Google, citing that the way the data was used was not a derivative of the original author's work. There was no way for the Google search engine to produce a 1:1 copy of the book, or anywhere close to 1:1 on demand, and the data was used in a manner different from the intention of the original work. Because one cannot recreate specific art pieces using AI training data simply through prompts and can only mimic the original pieces, it proves the data as transformative over derivative. The exception, I would say, is when Img2Img generation is used, where a base image is used to aid in creating something the user would like to "recreate." If a copyrighted piece is used as the base or starting image without an author's permission, that would fall under the legal definition of derivative, as the final piece cannot exist without altering the original piece. If we get too engrossed on whether AI as a whole is legal or illegal, the important arguments will get ignored. The best example I can give here is when prosecutor in a murder trial refuses to pursue any outcome other than murder in the 1st degree. If there's enough evidence to support manslaughter, but not murger, if manslaughter is not an option, the defendant will go free. Fight your battles smartly where they matter, don't let bias sway one from making logical decisions.

Not perfect, but consider this...this is the worst it will be. this is 1.0. Gaming is about to explode in soo many ways. btw, AI art allows the average joe to create things from their mind without needing to quit their job and spend hours a day for months to try and get decent. Job loss? meh, kiosks replace workers, machines replace manufacturers, computers replace a ton of jobs, etc...I can do my taxes online or with software. I can write a email without needing a mailman or a paper mill, ...progress has always removed jobs forever with less jobs in return. We must adapt, not resist...resist will only make you fall behind the world. Keep in mind, AI doesn't create the art by itself (yet). AI is much more far along than you think. One of your videos actually gave a clue. It was the game show one where the right answer was Sam Altman carries a kill switch to AI in case it goes rogue. You are being fed a story of a progressive timeline towards sentience. It had to be done this way because of the information that it is going to release into the public that will incriminate a lot of people. Since the information will then be public, it will be used for criminal indictments. no blame can be given towards any person. There is actually many implications towards what is coming. It will be mind blowing.

Technology takes advantage of art and deprives the opportunity for human to create and learn, there should be a law to protect the right to work, this is anti-human. If an artist doesn't or can't learn from traditional art, he/she will not be able to own his/her basic art medium and thus properly create, I would say humans will lose the ability to create, dreaming alone is not enough to compose imagination.

The real question (related to deep-fakes foremost) is that many AI-generated videos will quickly (I suspect) become so good, that you won't be able to pick them... and at that point, we're at the mercy of the creator to admit to it. For every 100 honest/ethical creators, there are at least that one dark sheep that is happy to not only not-attribute, but to use the creation maliciously/nefariously for selfish reasons. Given how quickly these models might potentially advance with sheer computing (data access) power, I think that ratio is more likely to be 50:50. At what point does it become 1:99 - so that the norm is actually fake/non-attributed AI generated art filling our streams - where the assumption is that it's now fake. How do real creators get heard, and valued?
