Spiritual Growth Is a Choice Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. -Philippians 2:12- Why do some Christians succeed spiritually when others fail? It’s because of the choices they make. Some don’t want to go forward spiritually, so they don’t. Others do want to go forward spiritually, so they do. This doesn’t come down to just one choice. Rather, it’s a matter of hundreds of choices that we make over time. The apostle Peter reminds us, “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence” (2 Peter 1:3) We have everything we need to grow. So, if we want to grow, we will. And if we don’t want to grow, we won’t. This doesn’t mean that we’re living the Christian life through human effort. Rather, it’s God working through us. But we do need to yield to Him. There is God’s part, and there is our part. God will transform us and help us. But we need to call on Him. Paul summarized it this way: “Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him” (Philippians 2:12-13) Salvation is not a result of human effort, and none of us are saved by works. However, we must cooperate with the Holy Spirit, who wants to transform us. The end game is to be a fruitful Christian. And that, by the way, is why we’re here on this earth. Jesus said, “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit” (John 15:16) And how do we produce lasting fruit? By sinking our roots deeply into Jesus Christ.

Best way i had it explained to me is heavy enough to cause a 'oh yeah this is heavy' thought mixed with enough reps that you can actually feel muscle fatigue. Too heavy and low can work for some people, but it also risks messing up your form. Finding your sweet spot around 10-14 as someone above me said is a good aim, because you can lift heavier whilst getting enough repetitions to make it worthwhile.

I was the chunky funny kid - joined a gym at 15. Now 29. Don't give up - if I was in your shoes I would probrably do the one meal a day diet - it's extreme but works 100% a huge salad first with low cal dressing - then a portion of chicken rice and your vegetable on the side. Preferably broccoli. Protein shake mixed with water and a bottle of water to consume with the meal and that's all you need. For the gym activity itself - a simple bro split of 1 body part per week - add an hour of cardio on top at the end and your done. The cardio being an incline walk of 7-15 incline at around 3- 3.3 mph depending on how you handle. But your tall so you'll be fine. Do this - and in a month or two you'll have made so much progress you won't want to stop. In a year - you'll know enough to eat a normal 3 meals a day while keeping it clean and the gym will remain the same but your mind and body won't. My 3 meals are a protein shake with almond milk for breakfast - a carb protein and Veggie meal for lunch. A protein shake post workout and 3 kodiak cake eggos before bed. A bottle of water with all meals. Your good to go

Been natural my entire life and I would shut your argument up if you saw me. 6’2 220 and built. 10-12 reps on just about every excercise and make sure that you are at failure in between 10 and 12 every single set. If you’re not at failure, up the weight. Training naturally means you have to lift heavy (heavy is relative to you) every training session or you will never build significant muscle. If you’re a beginner you might be able to do 10 lbs curls for 30 reps and put on a bit of muscle because your body is responding to new stimulus, but after 7 years of training, if I was curling 20 lbs for 50 reps every day, my biceps would be the exact same size. You have to breakdown muscle tissue for it to build bigger. Once your body is used to a weight and is too light, your muscles are strong enough to not break down anymore, and your muscle building ceases. You have to be lifting relatively heavy to your body or you will never grow.

The only problem i had when i went through my "pure form, lighter weight" arc was that I would get into 30 reps not exactly reaching failure, but muscle burn instead. So now i went back to the middleground with the occasional heavyweight and lighter weight on some exercises but most of them at the 10-12 range.

I like how you explain things in a laid-back, supportive way but you also got the muscle to back it up. I'm a trans man, so I have to build myself from the ground up and it's a huge struggle so this is the kind of guidance I find to be very helpful. Sometimes it feels like I have to do a lot of extra work to get myself to the body I want which makes working out very discouraging sometimes. I appreciate the inspiration you bring.
